Murder-Laura Cecere

Hopkinsville, Kentucky

December, 1996

Probably one of the most bizarre murders....and
particularly disturbing for those of us in the
television business...is the unsolved murder of
Sergeant Laura Cecere.

Cecere was an Army Sergeant at Fort Campbell,
Kentucky. She was reported missing December 6th, 1996
by her family members. Nearly a year went by with
little clues about where she was or what happened to
her. Cecere's mother made numerous pleas on a
Hopkinsville cable television station asking for any
information from viewers concerning her daughter's
disappearance.

Late in 1997, a reporter at the television station
received an anoynomous letter stating Cecere was dead
and buried somewhere in Gallatin County, Tennessee.
The letter was turned over to the police, but Cecere
was never found. Cecere's mother continued to plead
on-air for some information into her daughter's
disappearance.

In August, 1997 a reporter at the television station
received a package containing a jaw bone. The jaw bone
had a tag which read "Cecere" on it. A letter was also
attached saying Cecere was dead and this was a way to
give the family closure. The package had a Bowling
Green, Kentucky postmark, but no return address. The
jawbone was sent off to a State Police lab where it
was positively identified as the human remains of
Laura Cecere.

After police determined Cecere was dead, they
extensively searched Gallatin and Sumner Counties in
Tennessee, but she was never found.

Police detectives collected blood and writing samples
from Cecere's estranged husband. Investigators also
removed an entire wall from his home. Laura Cecere had
a life insurance policy and her estranged husband was
the beneficiary. In order to collect money, it had to
be proved she was dead.

No arrests have ever been made and the rest of
Cecere's body was never found. If you have any
information contact the Kentucky State Police at
1-606-676-3313.
