BasicsCharacter Name: Jude Beauvais Age: 23 Member Group: Resistance Leader
Character Appearance: It may be a terrible cliché but it has to be said - Jude Beauvais pretty much epitomises the description of tall, dark and handsome. He stands only one or two inches under six foot, though he stoops somewhat, and normally lowers his head so he appears slightly shorter (deportment, it seemed, was better left for the women). Jude’s hair is dark and worn short, messy and uncared for in a non-style on top of his head, but even this and the fact he seems to wear the same clothes (a worn, pinstripe shirt, grey jacket and old jeans) every day and that the whole effort of shaving leaves him with a sharp line of stubble down his jaw, can’t really take away from the fact that Jude is pretty damn attractive. He has a nicely proportioned face - a long, broad nose, thin lips and deep brown eyes under a heavy brow. Jude doesn’t seem to smile all that much these days, but when he does there’s no denying that it gets you pretty much ‘like that’. Jude himself has never really thought of himself as a handsome person, but he doesn’t like to think about himself that much as a general rule, so this isn’t saying much. Anyway, there are several people who will say it for him.
[ This Is Jude ]
Personality: Before she died, Jude’s Mother always said that she would not have been surprised if her son turned out to be an artist when he was older, and she certainly has some base for this prediction, because Jude has the temperament down to a tee. His emotions tend to play around with him a lot - one moment he's smirking and making sarcastic little comments, charming enough and instantly likeable, the other he's furious, violent and dangerous, and the next he's quiet, subdued and almost impossible to talk to. Jude is a lot of different people, and if some of them didn't scare you it'd be quite funny to watch, because he can flit between one and the other in an instant. The one that shows its face most often is usually the pensive, brooding Jude - the quiet form of the artist his Mother used to talk about. This version of the man hovers between making people interested and rather confused at his mysterious façade, and making people consider him a stuck up, self-involved git who isn’t prepared to talk to anyone. Thankfully the first is more just - Jude is not in the least stuck up or self-involved and he probably never will be. He comes from extremely humble background which he has not forgotten, and he certainly cares about people apart from himself. In fact, a few people have said that he cares too much, that he wants things to be perfect in an imperfect and Jude partially agrees with them, thinking it an excuse for his seeming obsession with sorting the situation in Paris out. When it comes down to it, though, Jude is a realist and knows that things are never going to be ideal - after all he’s seen some pretty tough stuff in his life; he knows harsh reality only too well. This doesn’t stop him trying though - he doesn’t mind living in an imperfect world, but Paris as it stands is just a joke of this. Maybe he is partially addicted to his cause, but this perhaps isn’t a bad thing in this sort of context. Jude just cares. A lot.
Hobbies: Bar-trawling, walking, and he reads a lot.
History: Jude Beauvais hasn’t had the easiest life. He grew up in the slums of Paris, living under a leaking roof with his parents and a sister - Bella, who is and was two years younger than him. The Beauvais never had that much money - Jude’s Mother had always been too weak to work and the factory which his Father worked at just outside the city paid badly. Jude and Bella got through school though, and they were both pretty happy, not knowing any other way of living. This changed when Jude’s Mother fell seriously ill when he was ten. She was rushed to hospital but nothing could be done by the time they got there (they had no car or phone, and it was a long walk by foot). She died, leaving children and Father alone in their little flat together and Jude to help bring up his little sister. His Father and he never got along - the former could be brash, cold and unpleasant and they fought a lot, and Jude really didn’t like the idea of him being the one who raised Bella (only eight at the time).
He hardly cared when his Father got chucked in prison a year later - afterall, the sod deserved it and there were bigger problems to deal with, anyway. By then, a totalitarian government had come in and Jude found himself living in a country which he could not stand - he saw himself through school, kept his head down until the age of eighteen (prior to which he moved Bella along to live with various relatives and friends around the city) but as soon as he was out of education, Jude started what he called 'a crusade'. Over six years he had accumulated an unhealthy amount of hatred for a teenager, watching human rights be violated with complete disregard with mounting fury. He started violent demonstrations, protests and wound his way around the city picking up important contacts until he was sure he could organise an upheaval - the only real problem was his responsibilities he had. His sister Bella was still in school, aged sixteen, and he wasn't about to uproot and move her, or worse - forget about her completely, now was he? He left her in the dark about his intentions until she finished formal education, and then sat her down a few weeks before she graduated from High School, to tell her what he was planning, why he wouldn't let her be involved, why he wouldn't let her again (she argued), where he was planning to send her, and how lovely England was in spring. She hardly liked the idea of moving to Britain, where Jude's contacts had secured his sister a nice place in the city of Manchester, but she went eventually. She went grudgingly, with a pale face streaked with tears and not without a promise to visit every year and to contact her every year, but she went anyway.
And that left Jude free to get down to business.
He finally met up with Lily Donovan when he was nineteen. She the same age as him, only just out of school - very pretty and curiously freshfaced for a person with her reputation, but for some reason Jude liked her immediatly. He took her for a few drinks, followed her for a while before he finally decided that she was to be trusted, but eventually he proposed to her the idea of teaming up to fight the opposition - she was as opposed to the government as he was.
And the rest, as the say, is l'histoire.
Living Situation: Jude keeps a small, rundown apartment above a bar in the centre of Paris but he sleeps most nights at Resistance Headquarters. At his flat, girlfriends have come and gone but none stay for long and he chiefly lives alone quite happily. In-DepthLikes: Old spy novels, getting lost in his own thoughts, acoustic guitars, night and winter, good quality whisky, seeing his sister. Dislikes: Adrien Burr and his government, snakes, humid weather, Adrien Burr and his government, overly emotional people, Adrien Birr and his government.
Specialties: He has no real formal qualifications, though this hardly matters because Jude’s real specialities and skills lie in logic, quick thinking, self control (usually) and a definite way with words. Additional Information
