"I know we're all pretty small in the big scheme of things.
And I suppose the most you can hope for is to make some kind of difference.
But what kind of difference have I made? What in the world is better because of me?"
–Jack Nicholson, in 'About Schmidt'
Today,I caused a stranger to smile when I stopped at a green light(nobody was behind me) to let them cross.
Not much, but seemed like a good place to start the day.

Look at every path closely and deliberately. Try it as many times as you think necessary. Then ask yourself and yourself alone one question. This question is one that only a very old man asks. My benefactor told me about it once when I was young and my blood was too vigorous for me to understand it. Now I do understand it. I will tell you what it is: “Does this path have a heart?” If it does, the path is good. If it doesn’t, it is of no use.

A big dog saw a little dog chasing its tail and asked, "Why are you chasing your tail so?" Said the puppy, "I have mastered philosophy; I have solved the problems of the universe which no dog before me has rightly solved; I have learned that the best thing for a dog is happiness, and that happiness is my tail. Therefore I am chasing it; and when I catch it I shall have happiness."
Said the old dog, "My son, I , too, have paid attention to the problems of the universe in my weak way, and I have formed some opinions. I, too, have judged that happiness is a fine thing for a dog, and that happiness is in my tail. But I have noticed that when I chase after it, it keeps running away from me, but when I go about my business, it comes after me."

;) Argh good old Descartes.......i would urge any one not to read this post...except those willing to meditate seriously with me, and to withdraw there minds from the senses and all preconeived opinions...."the chief and most common mistake [in philosophy]... consists in my judging that the ideas which are in me resemble, or conform to, things located outside me." ;)

"A master in the art of living draws no sharp distinction between his work and his play; his labor and his leisure; his mind and his body; his education and his recreation. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence through whatever he is doing, and leaves others to determine whether he is working or playing. To himself, he always appears to be doing both."
--Francoise Rene Auguste Chateaubriand

We should be careful to get out of an experience only the wisdom that is in it — and stop there; lest we be like the cat that sits down on a hot stove lid. She will never sit on a hot stove lid again — and that is well; but also she will never sit down on a cold one anymore.
-Mark Twain
