I was thinking of starting Aikido ( providing it doesn't clash with Kung Fu or Tai Chi) and was wondering if anybody could tell me about the styles and techniques because I know very little about it. can anybody help?
one word, 'circles'
i think anywhos
what exactly do you mean?
Aikido is based on the transfer of power and energy. "Chris the duck" means circles as the majority of the moves and techniques are based on circular motions.
When you attacker strikes, you take their energy / force and transfer it through a simple manouvre to either (a) divert the energy into a throw leaving them on the floor and you walking away or (B) divert the energy into a move leaving them a crumpled heap on the floor at your feet.
It is a FANTASTIC art to learn, i only studied it for 4-5 months before i moved house, but it was a great alternative to the Fu. Gives you a lot more options in the sparring matches aswell.
If you want try class, ask Mike to put you in contact with George McMaster, he is a great teacher and a far as i can remember his classes are on Tuesday and Wednesday's. But he should be at the weeks course, he was there last year.
;) .i do miss our aikido demos!! ;)
Thank you Italian Stallion :)
