DESTINY'S CHILD, GREEN DAY, THE BLACK EYED PEAS, TIM McGRAW and KELLY CLARKSON shared the limelight at the American Music Awards last night (22NOV05), winning two prizes each.

But despite having received the highest number of nominations - four - MARIAH CAREY only picked up one award for Favourite Soul/R+B Female Artist, at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

Carey told the audience, "Thank you so much for the warmth and the love."

Destiny's Child won Favourite Soul/R+B Band/Duo/Group and Favourite Soul/R+B Album for DESTINY'S FULFILLED.

Green Day took home Favourite Pop/Rock Album for AMERICAN IDIOT and Favourite Alternative Music Artist, while The Black Eyed Peas won Favourite Pop/Rock Band/Duo/Group as well as Favourite Rap/Hip-hop Band/Duo/Group.

McGraw was named Favourite Country Artist and also took home Favourite Country Album for LIVE LIKE YOU WERE DYING.

Clarkson won Favourite Adult Contemporary Artist and also picked up the Text-In award, chosen by members of the public who texted in their vote on their mobile phones.

Veteran rockers THE ROLLING STONES closed the show with a live performance broadcast from a concert in Salt Lake City, Utah.

However, many artists didn't show up, including Green Day, The Black Eyed Peas, Clarkson, EMINEM, 50 CENT and R KELLY. Girl trio Destiny's Child were represented by KELLY ROWLAND.
