Title: How Many People?
Description: Have felt weird talking to a non-phan...

daughterofdarkness87 - September 17, 2005 01:41 AM (GMT)
Okay, so I was talking to a friend online right? Just a normal conversation, when she comments on my status message "I am an Official member of the D.B.C.A." She asks what it is and I explain, and she visits the site and now thinks I'm slightly crazy... Anyone else ever experience something like this...?

angel of mystery - September 17, 2005 04:40 PM (GMT)
I know what you mean I go to a very small school (27 people that's counting teachers) I tried to get a friend to understand why I liked Erik so much and I also tried to tell her about the D.B.C.A she just said that I was crazy and everyone on the site was too. I hate being the only phan in town and i'm not counting my little sister because she like the fop.

wow! your school is small!

*like many others, i too have had this experience. one of them was also in math when i was talking to my friend about her liking this one guy who trys to avoid her and i tell her that i have a crush on Erik. she asked me who Erik was and i told her. first she looked at me like i was the most insane person ever. then she smiled. she was trying so hard to keep herself from laughing.

*then there's my parents. whenever we talk the conversation somehow gets onto the topic of Erik (i wonder who got onto that topic? *grins*). then i'm told to stop talking for a little bit. it's funny watching their faces go from happy to horror struck when i start talking about Erik!

angel of mystery - September 18, 2005 02:37 AM (GMT)
has anyone ever made the threat to Punjab anyone ? I know I have!

eriksmistress - September 18, 2005 03:42 AM (GMT)
i have threatened to Punjab my neighbor friends and sister! my sister isn't scared, but my friends are! ha ha!

Muirgen - September 18, 2005 06:04 AM (GMT)
my mom thinks im insane, espessially since im trying to convince her to buy me the OLC edition and she's all 'but you already have the soundtrack' and looks at me like  when i point out that its the movie sountrack. and the fact that im trying to convince her that i need the 2-disc DVD.

Silvermasque - September 18, 2005 10:48 AM (GMT)
muirgen, i want the speial edition movie too, but i have the london cast, if you want I can try to burn a copy for you, if our burner ever starts working properly again..let me tell you, pinneaple soft drink and laptops do NOT under any circumstances, mix well

erik's-black-cape - September 18, 2005 07:31 PM (GMT)
All the time...all the time... In school mostly. Now that my sister is in college, only my dad can make odd looks when I talk about Erik excessively. I have threatened many people with the Punjab Lasso. hehe...hehe...

That would be great! no worries though if you can't. and i'll try to remember that about the pinapple soft drink ;).
I love threatining to punjab my sister espesially since she has no idea what I'm talking about

daughterofdarkness87 - September 19, 2005 11:45 PM (GMT)
I usually threaten people by saying "If you don't stop, I swear I'll get Erik to punjab you!" this is followed by yet more staring. Ugh.

Yeah, same with me. It happens WAY too much to be normal, actually...

Except Friday saw a different scenario. I was looking after my brothers and sisters and they started fighting AGAIN (i swear they all hate each other) and I just stormed out the back door with a load of washing and screamed to the sky "ERIK! BRING ME THE LASSO! SOME KIDS NEED TO MEET IT!" Funnily enough, he refused. Damn that Erik sometimes...

Mrs. Malfoy - September 26, 2005 11:49 PM (GMT)
hmmm... well, when im mad at my parents i always scream that i swear to god i will punjab them on the spot. they never listen. wonder why...?

pitchblack1138 - September 26, 2005 11:57 PM (GMT)
I am so glad there are no phans at my school, if there were, I would kill myself. Or them. My friends don't even care when I talk about Snape or Alan, they probably don't even know he is. They wouldn't know who the phantom was either. Sometimes living in a naive little town is a good thing

eriksmistress - September 27, 2005 04:50 AM (GMT)
get this:

i was in math class and these two idiots (a blonde and burnette) walked past my desk. they saw the cover of my binder (covered in Phantom pics) and the burnette said, "a little obssessive, aren't we?" i was about to speak when the blonde cut in, "we're watching that movie in drama. from here (points to Red Death) to here (points to Point of No Return) is scary." how anyone could be scared and not be swooning at Erik's sexiness is beyond me. then they did the most horrid thing anyone could ever do: THEY MOCKED ERIK!!!!! i was about to threaten to punjab them when the bell rang and they walked away. they are so lucky that the bell rang!

daughterofdarkness87 - September 27, 2005 06:04 AM (GMT)
I was also recently at a party with a few friends. I referred to Gerard as Gerry, and I get comments like "Don't do that, that nickname is an insult to Gerard Butler." In my head I go, "Yeah? Well if my Erik Muse were here, I'd have him punjab you..." Urgh... I'm starting to dislike my friends in my town... They're beginning to irritate me.

Ha!! What do they know!?!?! Gerry hates the way Americans say GerARD and therefore prefers to be called GERRY!!!!!! And Gerard is only his professional name, its not just Americans, he doesn't like to be called that by anyone on a regular basis!!!! MUAHAHA!!!

Silvermasque - September 27, 2005 11:44 PM (GMT)
Does he like Ger? That's what we call my Uncle Gerard (My auntie Julie is so incredibly lucky I've decided) And I thik he can sing too...I think, he's dad's brother and dad has a killer baritone. I get to go up there next year and work with them Hooray for dressing up like Tweety at Dreamworld!

Adibug

Nightshadesister - September 28, 2005 01:33 AM (GMT)
You're gonna be Tweety? Damn, I wish I could get up to Dreamworld. I'd be going round, tapping Tweeties on the back and going "Adi? Is that you?" Lol. That'd be absolutely hilarious.

daughterofdarkness87 - September 28, 2005 05:38 PM (GMT)
So you get to work in a theme park, Adi? That's awesome! I'm actually thinking about making a trip to Australia sometime this year...:D If I can raise the funds for it! :D

Silvermasque - September 29, 2005 02:28 AM (GMT)
Come down come down come down! Then you and me and Sam and Delta can all play!

daughterofdarkness87 - September 29, 2005 11:34 AM (GMT)
I'll try! :D Maybe I'll ask my dad for the trip as a Christmas gift... That would be the best! :D

Mrs. Malfoy - October 17, 2005 11:51 PM (GMT)
ok, i have something to tell u guys... when i first saw POTO, i thought gerry's name was GERALD butler... *dodges oncoming chair* i know, its terrible, but i did!!!

oh, heh... u know how the lottery is up to like, 340 million $? my dad said that if we win, we could buy the house next door to gerry lol. my dads so cool sometimes...

Erik's Vampire - October 30, 2005 05:25 PM (GMT)
Yep. My friend teases me about my poto obsession. And my Gerry obsession. She teases me by saying (and I quote) 'What is Gerry moved into that empty house? He would have to put a restaning order on you.' (end quote) Spooty friend. (grummble)
Erik: She's in a pretty bad mood. (hug)
E.V: (snuggles) See what I mean? [COLOR=blue]

Non-phan friends are no fun when you want to talk about phantom... They call you freak or obssesive. (Which, I'll admit I am on both counts)... But yeah.. I had something else I was going to say, but my brain just died... (stupid constantly IM-ing friends)

Edit: I remember what I was going to say. I was watching POTO with a friend who owns the special edition and only watched to Easter Egg and the Deleted Scene. While watching the opening scene I commented on how I'd watched the making of and knew how they did the effects. So she mocks me saying that I was being stupid and she'd never watch POTO again with me, because I knew too much about it. GRR

Lady Assasin Moonbeam - February 4, 2006 02:10 AM (GMT)
All my school friends are fangirls of one thing or another. Everyone else, I get so tiered explaining who Erik is I practically scream at them. And then they look at me like I'm crazy. I am, but who are they to point that out?!?

 It is very strange talking to non-phans.

Laochra - February 4, 2006 07:59 PM (GMT)
HELL YEAH!! My friends no longer talk of anything with the word "Mask" "Cape" "Michael Crawford" and or any movie with a black caped hero in it. Whcih meant that they tried to blindfold em when we went to see Batman Begins!!

THEY JUST DONT UNDERSTAND!! Particularly my mam! When I get into one of my rampages on how great The Phan Man is and how much of a HUSSY Christine is, my mam normally just stares at me in confusion, reminds me that its just a book and threatens to bring me back to the darn therapist again!!...Did anyone ever notice how Therapist spells The Rapist... :o

Kinz - February 18, 2006 01:45 AM (GMT)
I told my friend about this site today... and this is the response I got...
Me:: You've got to join this site, DBCA! It's got a bunch of Erik!shippers!
Her:: Erik? Erik who?
Me:: The Phantom of the Opera, silly! You know that!
Her:: Oh. Yes. I don't like Erik. I refuse to call him that. He's only the Phantom to me. Raoul is much better.
Me:: O_O *keels over*
Yes, it's true. My friend likes le fop. *dies*
Even my friends who love and adore Phantom are sick of talking about it with me. They always change the subject whenever I bring Erik into the convo (which is a lot). It's awful. And I get these blank stares whenever a non-phan gets into a conversation. Doesn't stop me, though. I keep talking until someone smacks/kicks me. :D

daughterofdarkness87 - February 18, 2006 03:30 AM (GMT)
Aww.. :D I flat out refuse to even bring up Phantom around my friends. They like to call themselves "elitests" when it comes to things they like... Well, if I were to do that, (which I wouldn't) I could punjab them all for even thinking about phantom... :D Most have only seen the movie (which is awesome, but there's so much more), 1 or 2 have read Leroux, and none Kay (which I can honestly say I haven't either, but I have a job now, so soon it shall be mine!) ARGH! And they're all mostly fop lovers... *shudder* Oi... makes me angry just thinking about it!

erik's-black-cape - February 23, 2006 03:20 AM (GMT)
Yeah..I think my friends stopped listening to my Phantom babble when I started demading to be referred to as Mrs.Phantom. They didn't find it very funny.

I didn't think it was funny either.
I was serious.

I try to bring Phantom up as little as possible to avoid conflict, but I always end up relating the conversation back to my Erik love.heh

AcanyaHelke - February 23, 2006 04:41 PM (GMT)
Even my Phan friends are starting to annoy me. I am one of those people that when I get a new obsession, I really obsess...like, I have to read every book, watch every movie, find everything about it that I can...always. Before Phantom it was LotR...still is...and they made fun of me (though they all liked it too...) 'cause it was what my conversations always shifted to...then they got me to watch Phantom (though I wanted to see it when we watched it...) and I started obsessing over it...and now my convos always have something Phantom-y in them...

And now, they make fun of me on a daily basis. They make fun of Erik too. I only talk about Erik with some of them online, but then they decided to bring him into face-to-face conversation. (I try not to look too crazy...I only have 1 friend I really talk about Erik with...she doesn't make fun of me...). But now they think if something happens they can start blaming Erik or making fun or Erik...

Erik- I'm gonna kill them all one day...

Jen- I'll help...

And the whole "Gerard" thing...no one I know can get it right...even if they are all 'fans' of him as well...it annoys me! Grrr...get it right! It isn't hard! Ger-ard....not gerald! there is NO L! No L! Grrr....and they call themselves fans...

Miss Dusk - February 23, 2006 05:38 PM (GMT)
See I love the fact that one of my friends has named her CAR Gerard. Yes, she named her car after Gerard Butler. So, if anyone gives me a hard time about it all I have to do is be like, "Have you forgotten the name of so-and-so's car?? And you call me obsessed? Please."

Jen: Your friends are not phans. Not even close. Gerald? No. They are not phans. I understand with the whole obsession thing. Before the Phantom it was Pirates of Caribbean. Or more importantly Johnny Depp (I still do as a matter of fact). Now, I'm all for reading all the Phantom books I can get my hands on. Well, take comfort in the fact that we don't make fun of you for liking Erik. I mean, that would be hypocrisy!

erik's-black-cape - February 23, 2006 07:12 PM (GMT)
I have never had an obsession before. I have always had a hard time finding something I liked. Now that I have, I cannot get enough of it.

I actually named my dad's black PT Cruiser "Phantom." It was just so...Phantom-like.

But he just sold it because he wanted a Chevy Malibu!!! So now we are getting a red chevy Malibu on saturday.

What is up with that??? Who sells a beautiful black Phantom car for a red Chevy Malibu?!?! *headsdesk*

I love my Phantom-mobile!!!! *weeps*

That happens to me all the time. My friend is the exact same way so we obbsess together. People use an L? how weird.

AcanyaHelke - February 23, 2006 11:17 PM (GMT)
Well, they are sorta phans...or, they used to be...meh...but yeah, they can't get it right...and there is nothing wrong with obsession! Most of them are obsessed about something...just not PotO or LotR...meh...but try telling THEM that...lol

eriksmistress - February 28, 2006 01:43 AM (GMT)
i really don't have to worry about being teased about phantom and my love for Erik all that much at school anymore. i barely talk at school and around my friends. so one less thing i have to worry about.

as for obsessions, i was really into CSI before Phantom, but i wouldn't say i was obsessed with it. mum and sis would probably say other wise, though.

Wanderlust - May 1, 2006 07:56 AM (GMT)
Quite a few times, actually. My friends all think I'm stark-raving mad now, I'm afraid. All I did was try to convince them that this place is really great. Some phans they are! *pouts childishly*

Erik: Must you do that?

Yes!

Erik: And why, may I ask?

My friends think I'm crazy...

Erik: You are crazy.

So does my family, and they think you're not real. They all think that I'm just some obsessed psycho who spends too much time thinking of sexy cloaked men and...

Erik: Shut up. You're making yourself look stupid. My head is spinning with all of your nonsense.

Meanie! Well, yes. I get odd looks all the time when I start talking about this place. Oh well, everyone is just jealous.

theatrewraith - May 5, 2006 09:32 PM (GMT)
I slapped this girl who made fun of Erik. It actually felt pretty good cause she's been making fun of me since the first grade. But, yeah, I swear nobody knows about POTO and it drives me up a wall cause I've got no one in school to talk to about it. People who have asked me about POTO usually get a huge rant which makes me late for class. Ever tried explaining to your teacher that you were late because you have to explain POTO? It doesn't go over too well. And then the person you were talking to thinks your insane because you were ranting about how Raoul's a fop, Carlotta's a bitch, Erik is soooooo sexy, etc. Life is so annoying sometimes.

Shadow_Singer - May 5, 2006 10:22 PM (GMT)
I've threatened to Punjab people a lot. My friends all think I'm psychotic. And all I did was talk about Erik constantly... *ponders what's wrong with that*

Actually it's really annoying because I have to explain what the DBCA is and stands for over and over again. Except to Jessica who joined. :D

star_trek_girl - May 5, 2006 11:40 PM (GMT)
It happened to me a few times exept not with this forum. It was a Star Trek forum and instead of just calling me crazy they teased and taunted me for it. But they will pay one day...they will all pay...
