Title: Oh, the ladies figure skating!

NJO - February 22, 2006 04:55 AM (GMT)
Wasn't it lovely to watch tonight? I expect Thurs. night to be exciting....it's my very favorite part of the Olympics...

Susanne - February 22, 2006 05:12 AM (GMT)
Yes, it was great. Kimmie Meisner is from the Philly area so the local news is all over it. She did great. All the USA girls did, it was so nice to watch.

Gwen - February 22, 2006 03:47 PM (GMT)
I know none of their names but I was spellbound by a young USA skater whose sister had won a gold medal in the last games and the reigning World Champ from Russia - that's all I had a chance to see. When they're good they take your breath away. (0)

The girl from the USA was Emily Hughes and she was good...the Russian girl was so lovely and she has vasculitis, too. Her mother is on dialysis and waiting for another transplant! The last skater from the USA Sasha Cohen was incredible , too.

Yeah, I almost wish they wouldn't give all the human interest stories on these people. I makes you want them all to win.

I was thinking the same thing Susanne ;)

This way we feel good whoever wins! ^db^

Marti - February 22, 2006 07:54 PM (GMT)
 Yep!! ^db^

Tonight is the night? This should be a very good performance...

Gwen - February 23, 2006 10:29 PM (GMT)
I managed to catch all the medal performances today as they were in the same block - I won't spoil it for you :D

Susanne - February 23, 2006 10:37 PM (GMT)
Thanks Gwen, I'll never forget one year they said on the radio who had won the women's competition and I was so disappointed to know ahead of time.

I will get my hot chocolate ready, put the blanket over my legs, summons a cat or two to sit with me and enjoy the show tonight. Yup, sounds like a plan.

NJO - February 23, 2006 10:47 PM (GMT)
The cats might as well earn their keep...as lap warmers! I am looking forward to it...thanks, Gwen for not giving it away! -cks- bring on the chocolate and cookies, Susanne. -cks-

When I mentioned that fact to Arch he grumbled that he hates this part because of the triple jumps and spins which "have nothing to do with ice skating" MEN! I'll put the CD in my computer about cleaning his CPAP unit, he wanted me to choose a time convenient to me to do that...sound good? :D

NJO - February 24, 2006 12:40 AM (GMT)
   Just love ya' Marti! ;)

NJO - February 24, 2006 05:03 AM (GMT)
I wanted to stiffle that one announcer that kept being so critical of some of the skaters...very unkind. I really was surprised at the way the night went, but I enjoyed the performances. I really admired th Russian girl , but the Japanese skater was very good! Lovely to watch...

Susanne - February 24, 2006 05:42 AM (GMT)
Dick Button is always critical of the skaters. I don't care for his commentary. I do like Scott Hamilton and when Peggy Fleming is there, she is complimentary with her observations as well and I like her very much.

It was a great competition.

NJO - February 24, 2006 05:48 AM (GMT)
Okay, I know who he is now...I like Peggy and Scott , too. It was great to watch, but I catch myself all tense...afraid they'll make a mistake , a fall! :o Crazy, huh?

NJO - February 24, 2006 05:49 AM (GMT)
Oh, and those guys doing those amazing jumps and then the twists and turn at 50 ft! Turns my stomach over to think about it!

Susanne - February 24, 2006 03:02 PM (GMT)
Me, too. It was interesting to learn that they practice over water. I wondered how they learn to do these things.

Today my plan is to practice my vacuuming. That's about as crazy as I want to get

NJO - February 24, 2006 03:20 PM (GMT)
Go for it! vg

Marti - February 24, 2006 03:25 PM (GMT)
Yes..is it Dick Butkis?? He's a much older gold medalist and seems very critical of the young skaters. I'd rather hear Scott Hamilton or Peggy Flemming who are young enough to remember how they felt. They all seemed to come out of it unscathed. Was sorry they didn't interview the gold medalist, probably due to the language barrier. She made it look so easy!

NJO - February 24, 2006 03:44 PM (GMT)
Doyle was amused at me because Dick made me mad...it bothered him, too. I always love Scott and Peggy when they were skating! They are much more understanding and less harsh...they remember as you say how they felt!

Gwen - February 24, 2006 04:36 PM (GMT)
The commentators on my end were great - they are so supportive of all the skaters. Been there. done that!

I hate it when they fall.

I was really proud of our young Canadian skaters (one came in 5th) but they still have a long way to go to be as glorious as Sasha Cohen.

The Japanese skater nailed everything and no bad lines. She nearly quit - bet she's happy she gave it another go. :)
