At the Veterinary hospital where Sandy works, a poor little dog was brought in today that was in an Addisonian crisis from Cushings Disease! The Vet. (Barb) gave her fluids and some kind of injection that made her eat, then took the dog home with her to work out the cortisol and florinef dosages. Amazingly this was the second case of Addison's that she's seen in her career, and this little dog is like "family" because the hospital boards her every winter for 2 months while her owners go to Hawaaii. Just thought it deserved an honorable mention on the Addison's Board!

Poor little thing! I asked our vet about it in dogs and he says they diagnosis it the same as in humans...stim them!
I was talking to my vet about it, too. He said it is not very hard to treat in dogs because they don't worry so much about giving a little too much steroid because dogs don't live long enough to develop osteoporosis, etc. My vet has a few patients with it and he said he gives them a monthly shot of dex. and they do well. Interesting.
I had a friend that had a dog with Addison's, of course that was before I had ever heard of it. Wouldn't it be nice if we could get one shot a month and do fine? Would be great huh? Maureen
You betcha' it would! ;) I think my vets have more simpathy for me than others...they understand AD! Besides the're nice people and are so good to the animals...
