Title: Learning experience

Marti - November 7, 2005 09:53 PM (GMT)
Yesterday was a day of happy excitement with an unexpected visit from Patty, who is looking radient, Michael and "Lacy". While it was brief because Michael had an early flight out of Cleveland, it took a toll on me that slid past until this morning. There had also been a storm alert in our area with a tornado watch and heavy winds, and Carol and Barney came and brought pizza for supper. It really doesn't seem to be exciting enough to warrent extra meds, but last night I couldn't move off the couch and kept drifting in and out of sleep all evening...and definately "absent". Finally took the bedtime stuff and went to bed early. I slept like a baby for seven and a half hours. During the day today I noticed that I just wasn't "with it" and started reviewing yesterday in my mind***I took 10 mg of HC at 11:15 today, had lunch with Arch, laid down on the couch and slept until 2:45, when I awoke feeling a lot more together. I took 5mg at 4:00 and feel a lot better. Arch and I have talked about this and concluded that he needs to interact with me when he sees I'm having trouble responding and sleeping a lot, reveiw the day for excitement, approach me with HC in his hand and ask me he thinks I need a little more. (I usually take 15 HC in a.m. and 10 at 4:00.)

oh, how sweet of Arch! It does take two sometimes...I get to the point I want even bother with taking med ... it's too much effort! Glad you worked out what you were needing. I had missed you this morning and am happy to know you're okay now. (grh)

Marti, I am so glad that Patty is doing well and that you got to see her so radiant, that is happy stress of the best kind. Arch is a sweetheart, if you ever want to trade him in send him to Oz  -_-

I hope you don't need to up today.

What do you think about the stress? Do you think of it as a normal reaction that anyone might have, or possibly one of an aging Addisonian? it has been 31 years on replacements and I'll be 76 next month. Tnen again (still thinking here) could it have been a gradual build up of stress from all the good stuff happening. I didn't even get a picture of Patty! Just the dog, and that was only because I was trying to catch Michael licking her bone!

Marti, it is hard to know. In recent months you have had so much additional stress, both good and bad. Maybe part of it is the normal reaction of "everything is good" and your body is going flop. Over thirty years, I would imagine that dosage and requirements would change for different reasons but if you basically feel healthy and rarely need to stress dose then you are doing great. I always feel exhausted when visitors leave no matter how muc h I enjoyed their company and you have had so much on top of that. Let life return to normal see how you are and if you really are an "ageing addison" or a loveable addison's battler :D

It could just be the adrenaline is saying all is good......holidays :P lol Personal opinion is that you are human like the rest of us and all the extra demands on your body just caught up with you. Hmmm, you didn't say you were sending me ARch.....damn......men like him are rare......might have to go prospecting ;)

Marti, sorry you found yourself a little off. I hope you are doing much better. I also find, as Sue said, that if we have company, it leaves me a little wilted, so that in itself could be part of the effect you had, but don't forget, you have a lot of relief connected with your daughter. Relief is a very powerful emotion and the excitement when you are with her is amplified because of the recent situation.

-_- Thanks girls for being here for me when I was so perplexed at what happened to me. We've been running today. Arch had an early doctor's appointment and I had to run out even earlier because grandson David (a HS senior) was so sick the nurse at school wouldn't let him drive himself home. He's 6'2" and skinny as a rail and looked like he was about to pass out when he got into the car, but we made it to their home where I left him and told him to call me on my cell phone if he needed anything. Carol and Barney were at work. I napped after lunch like a good girl!

Hope David didn't have anything contagious...but what's a grandmom to do? Hope he feels better soon...does Arch have a lot of leaves to mulch or rake? Doyle runs the lawnmower through ours...

Grandma Marti washes her hands like crazy in an instance like that, but when I called this evening he answered the phone and said he was feeling better. Said he really didn't feel like going this morning but didn't want to miss a math test with a new teacher. He's a computer nut, and so is Barney, his step dad.

Arch has a combo leaf blower/vaccuum/shredder and we have piles of leaves. He did well until it started raining. He said it really startled him when he accidently got one of the black walnuts sucked up in there. The squirrels have stolen a few, but after the novelty wore off he didn't much mind sharing.
