Title: What's good for fibro?

NJO - October 20, 2005 07:31 PM (GMT)
I feel that some of my problem is fibro...anyone have any good suggestions on how to live with it? That may have been where the diarrhea came from because this is part of the package with fibromyalgia. I kept saying I felt like I was fighting something...usually a sure sign of autoimmune trouble brewing.

Jo a friend of mine has that and she said that a good massage is the best treatment and water exercises. She went through PT twice and it was good while it lasted, but needed those massages to stay that way. Then she swears by hot springs too. She's a southern gal...

I think a warm bath helps and a massage would also. Hot Springs, Arkansas? I'll have to settle for the bathtub...

Epsom salts! Don't forget epsom salts in that bathtub.

My massage person gave me a recipe for soaking,,,,I will look for it...it was epsom salts, I think baking soda?? (don't try it I am not sure!!) and I think an aromatic oil....sure feels good there when I get a foot soak before a massage....
I am overdue for a massage....haven't splurged in a really long time....it is expensive but when I was taking Tai Chi and getting occasional massages I was able to drop the ibs meds.....too bad insurance will pay a hundred a month for med copays but not the same for alternative healthier treatments....I did ask my dr and it won't 'fly'.

Interesting article Susanne,,,thanks,,,never really knew why they worked....

Would you delieve? I couldn't find epsom salts at Wal-Mart!

Jo, I had to ask the pharmacist for buffered sodium tablets, I wonder if they would keep epsom salts in the pharmacy too?

I have to have them special order sodium tablets for me! Said they took them out of there regular inventory because people were misusing them! Now, they are afraid to let us have Epsom Salts?

Jo, you may be able to get them in the supermarket, too. But for sure the pharmacy should have them with other bath products. I get them at Rite Aid so CVS should also carry them. I am surprised that WalMart didn't have them.

If I could deliver them to you, I would  But try this site, they deliver.

Thanks, Susanne! I'll try CVS or Rite Aid or order them from the link you gave! Wal-Mart used to have them in the laxative area but they could have moved them to the bath products area...

Hello Ladies, Haven't been around for a while so you know I have had a lot of crappy days lately. My GP keeps talling me I have fibro too, but sometimes I think he says it just because he doesn't know what else to say. (Recently he has mentioned Myasthenia Gravis but I don't even want to think about that) Anyway when I have one of those really achy days I just try to not overdo it and if needed I will take Tylenol or Motrin depending on how bad it is. My Mom has a jacuzzi tub and I have used that but it doesn't seem to make a difference in my case. Never tried a massage tho. :( Maureen

So sorry to hear you've been down, Maureen. It always seems worse on the rainy days in the Fall of the year...we all need some sunshine! Hope you feel better soon.

Sometimes I watch the Montel Williams Show. On Wednesdays he has Sylvia the psychic (sp?) on and a lot of people ask her about fibromyalgia. She says time and time again a high portein diet. Who knows!! ;)
