Title: I am a grandmother :)

Sue Hassell - October 18, 2005 12:00 PM (GMT)
My eldest son and partner are the proud parents of a bouncing baby girl "Eliza Dakota" weighing in at 8lb 13oz!!!!! She had a bit of apnoea to start with and spent 24 hours in the special care unit but is to be discharged tomorrow. I took more pics today so when I load them onto the computer I will forward some on. There are even some of a very proud Uncle Josh holding her :)

Thanks Jo for the email :)

Thanks everyone, Aspen good luck with your upcoming grandchild, I hope yours is as well behaved as mine is :)

Susanne, apnoea is the absence of breathing, you probably hear it more when it is called sleep apnoea and people who snore stop breathing for periods through out the night. It can be caused for a variety of reasons but in Eliza's case it hasn't happened again so all is good.

Susanne - October 23, 2005 04:47 PM (GMT)
Oh, I didn't realize it was on the same order as sleep apnea. My hubby has that and uses a CPAP for it. I didn't realize babies could be born with it. I'm glad everything is okay now. (grh)

Sue Hassell - October 24, 2005 11:57 AM (GMT)
Suzanne, there are different types of apnoea, sleep apnoea is the most common. I think Eliza's were more related to the birth/change in environment and she just took a llittle longer to know what to do than most. it is amazing the difference the CPAP makes with sleep apnoea iisn't it, I know some people who are just so different, less moody, more energy. Studies are showing that a lot of children with learning difficulties/behavioural problems have sleep apnoea and underlying reasons can be as simple as removing the tonsils?!! I am just glad that I have never had to deal with it with my kids, they have enough go wrong without that one ;)
