Title: What to do?

lzmom - June 9, 2008 12:08 PM (GMT)
We are in our second day of 90+ degree weather here, (tewksbury MA) - So what do i need to be careful of for Zac? Just make sure he keeps hydrated and not overheated? Is that it? Last week he said to me, when i was complaing of a stomach ache, that he had one too, but not bad enough to miss school cuz everyday there was something fun going on. Today he said his stomach hurt a little, and wanted to stay home. I thought it was a continuation of last week, so asked him if he could try and go and if he still felt bad at morning snack, to go to the nurse. (Side note, big sis stayed home last Monday, because of a so called stomach ache, which turned out to be unfinished homework). 8 more days and school is over, can't wait.

Be sure along with water he is getting in lots of salt...he will use more in that sort of heat...it is getting very hot here in the south at this time and I have to be very sure to drink and get my salt in or it can catch up to you! (grh) Zac will do fine , since he has you to make sure he takes care...you are a great mom! -cks- Is Zac allowed salty potato chips, pretzels? Great time for those! -cks-

I forgot about the salt part, yes he can have chips and pretzels, i'll be sure to give him those. We have a swimming pool, so i'm sure the minute the kids get home they will be putting their bathings suits on to go in.

Thanks for the reassurance.
Keep cool.

I spoke to the school nurse this morning at Zac's school and she is so awesome, she was already on top of it, spoke with Zac's teacher first thing to make sure he drinks lots of water and to make sure everyone knows she's got extra cold water bottles in her fridge for him. She also reminded me to pack him pretzels and chips for snacks.
I am feeling better knowing that everyone is looking out for him.

Great advice regarding the salty snacks and plenty of fluids. Does Zac take Florinef? Other than that, just watch for any complaints, like belly ache, or tiredness that might indicate he needs more steroids. You do a great job, Mom!!

Zac takes fludrocortisone, is that the same as Florinef?

Yes it's the same...just the drug and brand names.......
Everything you are already doing.....just watch the time in the heat...do you have ac? and lots of salt as folks have already said......
great that the school is being so good........must be a relief to you.....

We only have A/C upstairs in our bedrooms. So if not in the pool on the humid days we are either in the cool family room basement or upstairs.
