Title: Blood test results

Shelley bob - June 6, 2008 04:00 AM (GMT)
Well I got the test results back...
My chloride was high ... but that's a symptom of dehydration and since I had had that bad night on Sun. that's understandable. The Na and K were on their respective ends but were still normal.
My protein and calcium were low.... gotta work on that.
But the reason I got the tests was to see if my DHEA or my testosterone were too high which could be the reason I'm growing such a thick nasty beard. Well my testeo was right in the middle as was the DHEAs. the SHBG was on the low end but well within normal range. Since I don't have a uterus to know if what part of my cycle I'm in I can't tell if the progesterone is off. It says that I was <.20
The ranges are
follicular phase 0-3.6
midcycle 1.5-5.5
luteal phase 3-68

So how do you know if the progesterone is off if you don't have a period? Could low progesterone itself cause me to have this horrible facial hair?
Also why would my face be breaking out all of a sudden...especially if my DHEA and testeo are in range? I thought for sure they were going to be high or something which is why I was breaking out.
I'm kind of mad cuz I wanted to have a way to change something and get rid of the hairiness....but if things are in range that means I'm just stuck with it right? I don't like that idea. <_<

Any thoughts or ideas would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Jo,
That was very interesting stuff...thanks! The part where it says that progesterone helps in the processing of cortisol and if you don't have enough progesterone than the body has to do it through other channels and those channels have the side effect of long facial hair. Well that sounds like exactly what happened to me. When I lost that bad ovary the progesterone must have dropped significantly and then the facial hair started.
Dianne,
The testeo was 35 with a range of 20-80 for a pre-menopausal and 15-62 for post menopausal. So I really had a good number...not near the high end at all.
The estradiol was 46 but it doesn't give a range.
The DHEAs was 80 with a range of 35-420 so again I'm not on the high end so I'd really hate to stop the DHEA...it helps with the dry cracking splitting heals. I think that it must be the drop in progesterone from removing the ovary.

The ovary they removed was filled with cysts and very enlarged.

Thanks so much for the info...
Got some more research to do to see what I can do about this...

Oh Wow! That's interesting!
I wondered why I am all fuzzy faced these days! I only have 1 ovary after a hysterectomy 5 years ago and I suspect that one has given up. This support forum is just a wealth of knowledge. I can't imagine how ignorant I'd be if you guys weren't always educating us!

I'll read in my hormone book .....there is something about the ratio of progesterone to estrogen that is important....can't ever keep it straight....have to read it each time....
I also seem a bit too fuzzy faced for how often I forget to use my testosterone cream.....?? will read on jo's sites .....
