 No idea why it was done, but I received little round white ones about the size of florinef! :o When I asked, I was assured my account would be credited when they receive the package back. Our old friend is GONE!! (grh)

Well, That is disturbing...that sounds like Merck is completely out of the HC business. Were these pills like the Glades people are getting in this country? I know Kim described the 5's as being very much like her florinef...confusing to say the least.

I am really sorry to hear this as so many prefer the Merck HC...

How do I know who makes the HC that Zac takes, our pills look just like the florinef, white and round, i often mix them up. I get Zac's prescriptions for the local CVS Pharmacy.

There are so few brands made in the USA...Westward (mark 254), Glades, 5, 10 & 20 mg., I believe Quality Test, and brand name Cortef. I found one from the FDA orange book called Vintage which was just approve last year...don't know if it's same as Quality Test or another maker.

Look at the pills and you can then google HC and pill identifier and see who makes the pills. Also, many pharmacies put the maker, identifying #''s on the bottle.

Glades are the ones we get.

One possible help could be changing his fludrocortisone to Barr brand generic...it is yellow, oval shaped. I like it much better than the white Global. Had to change as the Global wasn't working for me as it should.

Thanks Jo, I'll give that some thought, I do his pills out a week at a time. I am thinking about changing over to mail order because between his 3 different prescriptions and my 3 - I have hypothyroid, high blood pressure and autoimmune liver disease, i feel like i'm at the pharmacy every week.

I wrote back to Julie in England and asked if it was possible I was sent this product because my prescription stated Hydrocortisone - it is known over there as Cortef.
Unfortunately it was later in the day when I asked, so have no answer yet. Wouldn't it be strange if this was a tempest in a teapot because my doc asked for the wrong drug???? <_<

Yes, it would be great to know it was still available....

A note from Julie states the oval pills are not available under Cortef either, so it looks like I'll be getting my meds in the states from now on.

Marti have you ever tried the Westward? They are 20's but you could get a prescription for some 10's by Glades...now, the Westward is harder and breaks in half easily. To get 2.5 and 5 mg. I use a pill splitter. It can be done!

I am sorry this is no longer being made...it was a good med.

I'll request a script for Westford 20's from my doc - the Merk I have left is good until 2010, so I'll just save those for 2.5's when I need them. gdbV The SUN is shining  Do you suppose those thunderstorms have moved out of here? I'll have to turn the air on if it stays sunny - it's quite muggy.

It's getting hot here! The humidity is really bad...it is sunny here and hopefully no storms for a few days.

I think you'll like the Westward. :)

I went to pick up Zac's refill for his HC yesterday and it's a different mfg, he is now getting Qual Test. Should I call his dr to find out if there is anything to be concerned with, or is it safe to assume that HC is HC ?
the pills are white and round and a little bigger than his fludro, so now i think i can see the difference.
Hot Hot here 95 yesterday and same for today. We are heading towards the water today for some seafood with my mom and brother and sil, can't wait for some yummy fried clams.

Sorry I missed this Barbara! Long day yesterday! And it's hot here also..

Quality Test is a generic HC. I priced it last year as Rite Aid said it was one it could get as well as Glades in 5's. My Westward only comes n 20's. :( But I like it and this wel maybe fine for Zac...was he taking Cortef? If so it may be an improvement, some prefer generics to Cortef...it is worth a try.

Jo - no problem, zac was taking Hydrocortisone same tabs 5 mg size but made by Glades.
