Title: Ever tried reflexology?

Shelley bob - May 20, 2008 04:14 AM (GMT)
Some of you may have read that I did a dumb thing on Sat. Because my hubby had back surgery he is totally out of commision as far as any lifting, bending, anything physical. So it falls to me and my two boys. Well we did a TON of gardening on Sat. I ended up either digging with a shovel hoeing with a hoe for 8 hours!! Sore doesn't even begin to explain how I felt. I was having numbness in both of my hands on Sun. and again today that just wouldn't go away. The only way I could get relief was if I laid down and twisted my hands out as far as they would go. Weird huh? Well I have an acquaintance who does reflexology and I thought I'd give it a try. She would start pushing and rubbing certain areas on my feet and some places wouldn't hurt but others I thought I'd gotten stabbed with a knife. She would say okay this is probably really going to hurt because this area deals with your neck...well sure enough it killed!! Then she was going along and hit a spot that just killed. She said this is your adrenals area...do you have trouble with fatigue? I said I have addisons disease and had to explain what that was. Then she came across another area that killed and this was my pituitary. She said it wasn't working to it's full potential. I don't know if I'm totally convinced by this stuff but it was extremely intersting. AND the numbness in my hands went away this afternoon and evening. My feet feel like they've been beaten up but the pain and stiffness in my arms, neck and back are waaaayyy better.
So have any of you had reflexology done? If so what did you think?
Nightie night everybody!!

Haven't had it done but have heard of it...if it helped your pain, that is good, whether she is right on all counts I don't know...but the method helped you! I know there are areas you can massage and help a headache and pushing hard against the bone between your brows helps sinus pain...an older nurse told me that years ago...it does seem to help.

Glad to hear from you...I don't see how you did that! I hope you take it a little easier the next time you work the garden. :) (grh)

Can't say I've heard of it Shelley, but if it helps, go for it! Amazing that they can make you feel so much better.

Hi Shelley,

I've heard of it and have tried it. Depending on your problem it can help. The Orientals have been using it for Centuries.

My Mom & I have a saying between us - Whatever works!! If it works for you and as long as it is not Harmful to you - what do you have to lose by trying?

Glad it helped you. I've had Reiki many many times. I onme time I was having it weekly because it helped so much. Whatever gets you thru the days - do it!!

Hi....cool! I am a big believer in 'all that stuff'......I would love to try it.......and I would believe her....and keep that woman as a friend!! It would be interesting to see how you would feel w/ regular treatments......??!
I haven't tried it myself but would like to......
I am going to try and go to a really good chiro soon......I think a good one can help alot.....looking for headache relief....

Kathy...can you describe reiki a bit and how you feel it helped you?
Also....really enjoy your time off......you sure deserve it!!
I got a good laugh from reading your description of your 'allergy season outfit..." I look pretty weird going out sometimes too but no one sees me as I am in a rural area...

another q I have been meaning to ask you....I was thinking about the stuff you take that makes you not sweat so much....and I was wondering if it stops enough sweating to be harmful to some people who maybe don't sweat quite so much?? Just thinking I might like to try it as I can feel the sweat running down my belly just having my morning coffee before it is even hot out in the summer....It is like I have my own humidity meter.....if I feel that in the morning I know the day will be too hot and humid for me....
sure would be nice to cut the sweat a bit to lessen the underarm odor and changing t-shirts in the middle of the day....

Oh, I would love to try reflexology or even better learn how to do it. I go to a chiropractor who also practices Chinese acupuncture and we have talked about it a couple of times. Acupuncture has helped me with so much that I am willing to try anything. I have a good friend who has used reflexology for years and swears by her results. Maybe I will go to the library and read up on it.

Sure Dianne,

Lets see, I first started seeing "Ann" back in 2005 when I had the Undiagnosed Vertigo (which if you remember my posts turned out to be Lyme Disease - Erlicchiosis).

Well after the Medical Comm. left me w/ no options, no answers, etc I was desperate for ANY help I could find. I went to my Health Ins's website & read up their policy about Acupuncture. Turned out they'll pay for it on a Reimbursement Only Basis (You pay, submit bill, they pay you back 70% AFTER you satisfy your Out of Pocket ded., etc, etc)

I didn't care. I was desperate & Practically Suicidal. Ann was great. She took IN DEPTH Personal Background regarding what prob or Problems had sent me to her. Our 1st vist took 3 hours :o , as 2 hours was spent taking vitals, and gathering info on conds, meds, allergies, etc.

MOST Acupncturists treat a patient "WHOLISTICALLY' - that means they don't JUST addresss the orig problem you came to them for, but ALL medical and/or Emotional problems that exist. They believe that is the only way to attain REAL health, is for ALL parts of the person to be in balance.

Our first visit, she did Acupuncture, Moxibustion, Reiki & Gua Sha. I felt very RELAXED & at PEACE when I left her office.

I have seen Ann regularly - off & on - at different times since then. I began seeing her WEEKLY in 2006 when Physical Stamina & Energy became such a BIG ISSUE, I could barely work a 25 hr work week. I was constantly EXHAUSTED to the CORE, YET STILL UNABLE TO FALL ASLEEP, or sleep thru the night.

When she was doibg an Acupuncture treatment, she did not charge for any of the "Extra" srvcs of Reiki, Moxibustion, Reflexology, etc.
But if she was seeing me strictly for REIKI, as she was that year, she charged me 1/2 price of a normal Acupunctire treatment. This worked out to about $40 a visit once a week. (I itemized Med. that year on my taxes & claimed all her bills since TECHNICALLY she was a licensed Acupuncturist which IS claimable on taxes).

Anyway, the practitioner puts you on a Massage table, turns on relaxing Nature Sounds type music, turns lights low. He or she then stands next to person at one end of body - they wull "Work their way" over the entire body by treatment's end - and hold their cupped hands together & JUST BARELY OVER the patient. VERY CLOSE, BUT NOT TOUCHING. Then they just stand their concentrating all their ENERGY into their hands. The "Premise" or Belief" is that they actually TRANSFER their HEALING energy into the Patient. And according to Ann, the Practitioner gets Positive results from it also.

It LITERALLY gave me the Physical Energy to get thru the work week & continue working Full time. I firmly believe I would not have been able to continue working in 2006 if not for Ann and the Reiki treatments.

Moxibustion, for those who don't know, is done during Acupuncture, Accupressure or other Oriental Medicine visits. They place a small cone of Sage incense on the patients head & light it. Incense does not actually flame, it smolders. So the Sage smoke permeates the room surrounding the patient & practitioner. VERY VERY Relaxing. And also American Indians use Sage in a lot if their MEDICAL TReatments.

I keep Ann, on Speed Dial, and even when I go Months w/o having to go to her (as alas, I cannot afford to go as often as I need to or would like to), I send her emails every so often saying Hi how are you etc, and every year I send her a small Christmas Gift and card. She would even accept partial pymts from me at times, letting me send her the rest "when I had it". She was great! A real Angel of Mercy ^A^

I am Lucky. I have a great "Network" of Support.

By the way, even tho (technically) she, nor Acupuncture, CURED me of my Vertigo, weeks I went to her I had LESS vertigo episodes & they were LESS severe & less frequent. Upon treating the Lyme Disease w/ appropriate antibiotics, (Which Acupuncture also helped me with the SIDE EFFECTS of long term antibiotic treatment such as Nausea, Vomiting etc) the VERTIGO & DIZZY SPELLS stopped.
