Title: Just need to talk to
Description: My Mom

Maureen - May 15, 2008 03:37 AM (GMT)
Hi Gals, We took my Mom to the cardiologist yesterday for her checkup. {htd} He told me very truthfully that he can't believe she is still hanging in there. She gained 3 pounds in 2 days so we knew she was holding fluid...that is alot of fluid for her. Her ankles weren't too swollen so I couldn't figure that problem out. The doctor had her lay down on the exam table and pulled up her shirt to look at her stomach and I almost fainted. Her stomach is so bloated she looked like she was pregnant. (I thought my sister was going to pass out. She backed up into the wall and just turned white.) He had her increase her diuretic and we need to watch her weight. Also her hemoglobin is low so he will probably put her in the hospital for a blood transfussion this week. If you saw her you would never know she was so sick and uncomfortable. I went over to her place tonight to cook for her and watch the Cubs game. She was hooping and a'hollerin like a nut! I gotta tell ya...this is wearing me out. But good news CUBS WIN ^db^ ^db^

I'm sorry about your mom's health. I can't imagine how hard it is watching your parent deteriorate in health. My parents have been so incredibly healthy it's sickening. I don't know if they will ever get sick. I'm the one that's always been the sick one. I tell them I took on all the family's sickness for them... But I know someday I will be in your position. I am the only sane and normal family member so I will be the one taking care of them when their health declines.
I will add you and your family to my prayers!!

Hi Mo,

Speaking from your mom's point of view, I can only tell you to make the most of happy times together...dwell on them, not what will happen at a later date. It will give you strength to carry on. We AD's tend to be strong willed in the first place, or most of us wouldn't be here! (grh)

It is very hard on us when we watch our parent's health deteriate but it does come to most of us at some point...I am sorry ,Maureen. (grh) I and my late brother were it in my family and when he was gone it was yours truly ( and Doyle was helping , too)...I do not regret one minute spent with mom...those last days in the hospital were bitter sweet...as Marti said enjoy each day you have with her. My dad died very quickly as did my brother and that is hard but I had more closure with my mom...easier to accept.

Whew! I just got home from my Mom's house. I had to take her to the hospital today so she could get 2 units of blood as she was very anemic. It took almost 7 hours!!! The worst part of the day was that there was not a comfortable chair in the joint. But there was a Cubs game on and they won big time. I think the whole hospital heard us hooping hollerin and cheering (0) I got her home and we both fell dead asleep her on the couch and me in the chair, who would think you could get so exhausted just sitting all day? She is in good spirits and hopefully this will give her a little more energy. ^db^
The guys are out camping so I have the house all to myself...peace and quiet and I can sleep as long as I want in the morning! #sz#

 Maureen. It is so difficult dealing with a parent's decline.

I hope you had a very relaxing weekend.

Hi Mo!! l1wv

Just wanted to say Hello. How's your mom doing? It is tough watching our parents deteriorate. Last year I had my mom staying with me over 6 mo's because of two surgeries back to back. I know what you mean about the "WAiting around all day" thing being so exhausting!!

I will be taking vacation from work next week, but not going anywhere. Hopefully I will be able to log on at least daily. MY schedule is always so crazy!! Just looking forward to being able to sleep in, go to bed when I want, AND Nap in the afternoon if I feel tired. All the things I CAN't Do when I'm working.

Remember to take care of yourself, so you can be there for your mom.

Mo, I hope mom is still doing okay. (grh) Did you ever go to the cardiologist for yourself? Don't forget to take care of yourself. (grh)

Maureen - May 27, 2008 03:54 AM (GMT)
Uh Oh! Kim you are gonna be really mad at me but I never went to the cardiologist for myself. I know...I know! Life got in the way. I know that is no excuse. Right now I am trying to get rid of this infection from my
dentist-tooth-extraction drama.
