Title: Good sources of protein

What are your favorite proteins sources? I am looking to increase the amount I eat and I don't eat eggs so that's out except egg whites...no soy, because of thyroid...so that really limits you. I eat so much chicken...I should have feathers. I like nuts and have them daily and eat lots of peanut butter...

Carbs as Diane said are so easy! Too easy...I hate shopping and looking for something tasty and healthy, too.

Jo,

I eat beans and brown rice. Careful not to exceed serving sizes.... of half a cup. Also, one of my faves is beef jerky. Might be a problem because of the soy. Check the label. Yogurt, fat free or 2% remains one of my treats. I get the plain stuff and have frozen cherries with it. Good treat! Black Cherries.

What's the deal about soy and thyroid? I think I have read that, but my mind is going...going.. Does that include all types of soy as if a person were allergic to soy? (my daughter, Terri, is allergic to soy.. She takes thyroid replacement...)

Did you have hail last night? We DID. HUGE stones. Didn't last too long, though

 JOAN

PS I am cutting back on HC by 2.5 mg every two weeks till I get down to 20, or maybe 25. I just started this because my endo suggested it. (I have symptoms of over-replacement) I am now getting 5mg tabs from the pharmacy. SO much easier to deal with multiple doses with those.... Also, my doc said to NOT take HC for pain, but to use Tramadol ER. I DON'T need it today, though. Feeling great. Is it the weather?

:P

I think the soy thing is that it is a goiterogenic and interferes with our thyroid meds and even affects the thyroid gland( thus, the name goiterogenic).

I have been eating frozen raspberries and or blueberries with Greek yogurt and nuts. Sweetened with Splenda.

I have found a great website from the Harvard School of Public Health.

The Nutrition Source/Harvard School of Public Health

P.S. The taper: take it slow and I believe the doctor is giving good advice in that you shouldn't treat pain with HC...I had one doctor tell me I was treating eveything with prednisone...I was becase I was needing other meds and when I got the thyroid and fludrocortisone right I was able to reduce my HC/pred. I have been on 25 mg. HC (altogether HC for at least a yr.) since 2005.
