Title: Shingles Vaccination

I was talking to my pharmacist at RiteAid this past week and he said they were able to give the shingles vaccine and bill it to Medicare Part D. They can give it with your doctors prescription. Some I know have not been getting it paid for by Medicare but I think it was just not handled correctly...thought some of you might be interested in knowing this...as these shots are expensive. :) I am not sure if he said that they could order it for your doctor to give...

If I had reoccurring shingles, I would be running to the doc to have this done. Such a horrible disease.

Is the vaccine easy to get from doctors or do they think it is really not necessary? I am wondering if I should talk to my doc about it but maybe check with my insurance first. Re you feeling better JO?

I don't know about regular insurance just the Medicare Part D...I think it is thought to be 65% effective.

I am improving...still have pain but it's better. :)

....so the way you understand it, I should now get a shingles vaccination? I had shingles in 2005....

Good for you for feeling a bit better. I am cheering for YOU.

The pharmacist said the CDC ( I believe) had ok'd the vaccine being given to those who have already had shingles. A doctor friend said you need to wait 4 mos. after having shingles...
