Title: Are Villa Fans The Biggest Bunch Of Muppets?

Tufty - January 15, 2007 04:31 PM (GMT)
Year upon year, they turn up at Old Trafford and spend the entire game singing about Man Utd and its fans.
The same tired old songs that everyone else sings comes out and they simply repeat them, with the occasional brief interlude of "Villa Villa" in a girly screach.

Lets analyse this
"We support our local team"
Do Villa fans know how pathetic this makes them sound?
For info, they dont actually support their local team. Their home gates will show you that, as most weeks they play in a half empty stadium, unless Man Utd are in town.
I have travelled across the country on numerous occasions when Villa are at home, they have fans travelling froma loo ver, especially across the midlands areas such as Nuneaton, Stafford and even down to places such as kidderminster, with a large contingemt from Walsall. Quite clearly, Villa is not their local team, as they pas scountless othe teams on the way to villa park.

Now last saturdaym, they continued to sing "we support our local team", when infact they didnt even take the full away allocation of tickets for Old trafford, so again, they clearly dont support their team.

"Shall we sing a song for you" - actually, when your spending all your time singning about United fans and where they come from etc, you are not actually singing about your own team or getting behind them, infact you are more obsessed with Uniteds support, than you aere your own team, to once agin, you sound rather stupid.

Going "ssshhhhhhssshhh" at queir tmoments of the game. infact, your won fans arent even singing at this point, so you are actually mocking yourselves.

"Do you come from manchester" or "No noise from the cockney boys" - studies will show that Man utd have more season ticket holders and supporters in the Manchester area than that of Manchester City (Even taking into account the differentials in ground size). United ranked towards the top of these urveys, much higher than most other clubs, with liverpool having the highest number of out of town seaon ticket and membership holders.
I have been to the witton area of Birmingham and the demographic makeup of the local area, is not represented on the terraces of Villa Park and that is for sure.

The "USA" chants seem to have dies off since randy lerner took over Villa, so thats on change.

Now they seem to be in aclaiment of Martin O'Neil, with the odd chant of his name or "Martin gove us a wave2. but what difference has he actually made? 11 games without a win, surely a record worse than most previous managers.

The Villa fans used to call for Doug Ellis to put his money in, but when the home gates are only 25,000 who can blame doug for not putting his money in, when the Villa supporters arent attending and financially contributing.

Now here is a challenge to Villa supporters, next time you play United, try and sing some songs in support of your own team. try and sing some songs that we dont get every other week off every other fan. Singing "Do you come from manchester" and laughing to yourselves about it or "see you on the motorway" is neither original or funny and could quite simply be sung bey every other team that attends Old Trafford.

For a setof supporter who like to moan to football radio phone ins, about how your a big club, you certainly have a bunch of supporters who have a small team mentality.

NufcSteven90 - January 15, 2007 08:31 PM (GMT)
All fans do it especially if the stadiums like a morgue. It's the same with your lot each year you come out with 'wheres your famous atmosphere' and 'fuck all you've never won fuck all'. It's football and like I said all fans do it.

AndrewFFC - January 15, 2007 11:12 PM (GMT)
Its football, if your lot at old trafford dont like it, mayb you should respond with some of your own chants.

Blackcountry Villa - January 16, 2007 02:11 PM (GMT)
What a fuckin plum. If all teams sing these same songs every week then why single us out? We took the 2000 allocation and sold that out, we didn't take the full 3000 because we'd took 6000 there the week before for a cup game that was on T.V. and both games the tickets were £36, not exactly cheap especially in the month after christmas. We had supported our team but then we were 3-1 down with no hope so we decided to take the piss out of your 'fans' and how we'd see them all travelling back to Devon, Cornwall, London etc i've never seen so many people carrying cameras at a football match. As Andrew said maybe you should try and sing back rather than moan about it after the game on a message board? I've seen you say on here several times how amazing your away support is, maybe you should teach your homes a few songs eh? Oh and it's very easy to travel over the country to watch and sing for a team who win nearly every week.

Was going to say something about that.
Villa have excellent support - As a LCFC supported I shouldn't say that but they do.

I would like to see Man U sell out if they went 11 games without a win and still claim they had the best away support in the country.
They're Quiet as heck when they're loosing and often outsung if they loose.

Right while I don't agree entirely with Tufty's post that my friend is utter pish.

26 years ring a bell 40k+ on average at home games ring a bell during the 80's, you know when football was on it's arse. I take pride in our out of town support, throughout the 70's and 80's special trains were booked from Euston and full for every game, proper Cocknery reds not the plastic shite. Same goes for Yorkshire, the Midlands, Wales. Through rubbish times and brilliant times.

Liverpool don't have the same level of out of town support as United no no no course they don't, not a southern accent anywhere. They don't have huge support in Ireland and Scandinavia either like United. Utter pish every one of them is born within 10 miles of the Annie road.

Same with City they don't have branches in London and coaches from the four corners of the country in the car park at eastlands.

As for Villa I rate their away support this season it's up there certainly, however they didn't sell out the last two seasons they came to OT and gave some back. Oh and how to you define local for villa, Birmingham, the Midlands, further?????? Like on your own site
http://www.avfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/FanCl...,,10265,00.html

Oh and for the record a lot can be said for United to be on the rack for a couple of seasons, get the lads back to the aways on a more regular basis, easier access to tickets etc.

It's not where your from it's where your at.

I already said why we didn't take the full allocation in the league last week, playing you the week before and taking 6000, ticket prices being £36 for both games only a couple of weeks after christmas, not having won for 11 games and not having won at Old Trafford for over 20 years. As for not taking the full allocation last season we couldn't believe that, the fans i mean, it was our first away game and Ellis decided to only take the small allocation which we sold out in 2 days, he always had a habit of taking the small allocation at grounds because he had no faith in our away fans despite us selling out nearly every away game every year and also he was scared that if tickets remained unsold he might have had to put his hand in his pocket and pay for them himself!

At least you put your points across well though, whereas Tufty is just a wanker

yorkiebarkid - January 17, 2007 08:23 PM (GMT)
Fair points, I'll also say I agree to some extent with Tufty's post. I find it ironic that many clubs sing "we support our local team" at OT. Many of these clubs have huge out of town match going support which they managed to conveniently forget about for 90 minutes while at ours.

I'll also add lower league clubs when they come for cup games such as Exeter and Burton who brought 9k singing the same chant with gusto. can somebody remind me of their usual attendance at home????????????

Uniteds fans have always embraced their proper out of town support and not brushed them under the carpet so nobody notices.

Hey ho it's all part of the fun

I have once heard our away support sing shall we sing a song for you and that is it. The songs are embarrising but villa are hardly the only ones... As far as our home support goes it is the best in the country for three games a season and about as poor as the adverage home support for any of the big teams in the country.

Interesting how in response the Villa fans arguments, all mancs use Liverpool as an example to justify their out of town support.

Irrespective of the factual (in)accuracies, it just seems to me that whilst we're all trying to unite for a common goal here, it seems pointless to have what is essentially a go at each other. What's the point?

It is pathetic that so much of our support chant about liverpool during games. That being said we are still louder and still have a bigger selection of songs then anyone else. That superiority which started the thred by attacking the Villa support and is epitomised by the above puerile comment is why other teams supporters dislike Man U .

I have said before I thought this board was about unification of fans behind common goals to address similar problems.

To that end off the pitch we , as Leeds supporters , suffer the same problems as Man U of ticket reductions , increased prices , over zealous stewarding, heavy handed OB etc I am quite happy to work with Man U supporters and put rivalry to oneside .When you read this thred you realise why this may be very difficult.

This thread was badly thought out and completely stupid on this forum - yes

But lets face it your always going to defend your club when it comes under attack from any side were human after all.

I'd rather this thread never happened and the poster in question thought a bit more before posting it (along with the people who replied including myself).

At least it happened on the "off the pitch section".

I see the Pompey fans were taking the piss out of your support again tonight, what a bunch of muppets they must be for singing songs about your home support eh? You stick to your pathetic 'Argentina' and 'Portugal' chants and anti-English songs, i don't care what your reasons are for the stupid songs, you're still English at the end of the day and to sing about England losing and for other countries is a lot worse than singing about another team's support and in my eyes makes you lot the biggest bunch of muppets

I agree with that.

Man United 'fans' are tossers. I hear they also sing about things such as Hillsbrough. Far worse than singing about the 70 odd thousand muppets at Old Trafford.

I have never heard an on mass mockery of hilsbourgh from united fans before. A few pricks shouting stuff maybe. On the other hand there are few sets of supporters that haven't used Munich at some point but that conveniently gets tucked under the carpet. As far as our home support today goes yes it was shite as most teams home support was this week-end. Fact is that the club were charging 36 notes for the cheepest tickets and that put a lot of lads off. Howerver I will say this, if we had of been given an away allocation the size of theirs we would have been louder then they were and we wouldn't have continually repeated the same shite songs.
Der der, der der der der der der Pompey!
I find ironic how a set of supporters with a collection of around three songs, one of which is sang by every ground of supporters in the country bar 4 or 5, can mock our support. Also grounp of supporters who resort to a drum to try and get the atmosphere going need to take a good hard look at themselves.

I love drums more the better I say.

Rick88 - Just because they dont sing lots of songs doesn't mean anything
I love the Fact that they sing the same song for ages it sounds great
It's not exactly great coming from a side that couldn't exactly even must up their one chant of "united" this weekend.
To be fair, Manure have a good support and make plenty of noise but when they try and defend there home support they just look like muppets by saying things about fans wearing the jersey's and singing the same songs.

Also in reply to Blackcountry Villa- I have already said our home support is shit and (specifically to Blackcountry Villa) that our away supports continued singing about scousers when we aren't playing them is embarrassing so clearly no our support is not perfect. I have never tried to defend our home support. It is a product of the very disease which has brought us all here. My point is that this is not exclusively a problem at old Trafford. There seems to be a myth around many clubs support when in fact as far as I can see it most home supports are shit bar the big games. With regard to away supports I was merely saying that each club that has come to old Trafford sings that particular chant, each thinking it is more witty and original then the last. What makes it more ironic is the fact that usually in the reverse tie our away support completely drowns out the home support who also sit in silence. A pity they cant remember that on their next visit. Also singing the same song for a concerted period might be impressive but not when it goes in cycles of three songs each lasting 20 seconds with a minute pause in between each. Anyway this thread is a bit pointless. I was just trying to stand up for our support as I feel it constantly gets slagged off unfairly imo.

My argument on this thread has been more criticising your fans for slagging off other team's fans as it seems that your fans think anything they don't do or sing is wrong, i haven't really said your support was shit only the other day after the Pompey game. Also your fans criticise other fans for wearing replica shirts, i don't wear one my self and haven't done since i was young but it's up to them what they want to do, just because some of your fans don't wear them doesn't make it the right thing to do.

I haven't even mentioned your fans singing about scousers, i was on about you pathetically chanting 'Argentina' and 'Portugal' when you're English. How your fans can slag ours off or Pompey's for singing only a few songs when your fans chant against your own country and want your country to lose is beyond me
