Newcastle - Hull5 Sepereate protests across the City. With the biggest and most succesful imo being The Ultras one which brought in thousands for an hour long vocal display. Everbody descending on an area that was empty at 1:59 yet couldn't get moved by 2:01 was brilliant. The walkway under the stands was pretty much full.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-Uv0dMYFz4 Pompey - Boro Apparantly there was a protest march for standing?
It shows English support will stand up and be counted for.
Surely we as a campaign with the FSF and all the various clubs represented on here could get something organised for London next summer?
That's how the Germans done it and they can stand.

Your right that is very positive. I think people are starting to get frustrated with football and money.
purpleronnie - September 16, 2008 08:52 AM (GMT)
Definately but we need more of them.

Don't wish to get into the rights and wrongs of the Newcastle situation but it would appear to me that you Geordies are your own worst enemy & need a reality check. You were seriously in the debt prior to Ashleys takeover due to the club spending silly money yet now want a rich consortium to do exactly the same. I cant see how Newcastle being taken over by billionaires will help your average fan. It will just further fuel player wage inflation in the game & if you honestly think some rich arab or indian will keep his nose out of team affairs your kidding yourself.
For the Times this article is actually quite good

Kettering Town v York City
The Jorvik Reds have been getting a hard time recently from certain club board members, amongst other things being told they aren't the kind of supporters this club needs - they were told this at half-time of the Torquay away game, a 600+ mile round trip on a Thursday night.
At the Kettering game on Saturday they decided to protest by wearing suits, and displaying a 'Suits Rule Football' banner at the game.

Well, what can i say...after all that tench in the past few weeks we arrive at the ground, move to a pub and are met by half for northamptonshire's police force. problem for them was, over 75% of our bus had turned up in suits and masks/balaclavas as part of a later display/protest...cue cops walking round the pub asking people if they are from york and if they have come on a bus. as we sit there, in our suits enjoying beers in teh sun, being the most peaceful we have ever been....up strolls mounted police and more vans...to be met with total confusion and some awkward attempts at fiming the ultras (who they couldn't find) We march to the ground en masse, up the noise with banners, 2 sticks and flags all over the placxe..only to be met at the gates by even more coppers telling us that basically everything we were carrying was banned and were forced to hand it into the stewards. in the ground and display underway...banner, streamers, baby smokes et etc |

I haven't even heard or seen anything from Portsmouth's march. The one which is a protest for standing and it gets no publicity

In fairness you can't really moan about attracting police attention if your going to throw smoke bombs onto the pitch no matter how harmless they are. Christ if you fart at Forest they send the TSG in

From the online Daily Echo:
SAINTS supporters have welcomed a call by the Liberal Democrats to bring back terraces at top football matches on the grounds that safety has improved since the Hillsborough disaster.
A motion to introduce “safe standing” – nearly 20 years after 96 Liverpool supporters died at an FA Cup semi-final – was overwhelmingly carried by party conference delegates at Bournemouth.
The vote commits the Lib Dems to press the Government to rip up regulations banning standing and prepare guidance for leading football clubs.
It came despite passionate opposition from a Liverpool city councillor and former lord mayor, who accused the motion’s supporters of “tampering”
that could lead to further tragedies.
Describing how he witnessed the horror of the 1985 Heysel disaster, Paul Clark added: “There is no such thing as safe standing at football matches.”
The most prominent supporter of the motion was Don Foster, the Lib Dem sports spokesman, who said more danger was posed by fans standing on seats and warned that many supporters were priced out of grounds altogether.
Mr Foster said: “This motion does not propose that we return to old-style terracing. But it’s time to reassess standing based on compelling new evidence. Modern developments mean that standing could be introduced safely.”
Mark O’Callaghan of Southampton Independent Supporters’ Association said the reintroduction of standing might attract more people to matches at St Mary’s.
He said: “It’s a very good idea. The more vocal fans are like opera singers – they like to stand up and give their heart and soul. That’s what fans like to do to get behind their team.
“In Germany they have already introduced safe standing in certain parts of the stadium and it works. Doing it here would encourage more people to come to games and it would make tickets cheaper. The ordinary fan on the street would support this.”
However, the Government ruled out a return to terraces in a Commons debate less than one year ago. Sports minister Gerry Sutcliffe told MPs that standing at football matches was still nearly twice as dangerous as sitting down.

But there are still rules. Most of what they do looks fine, but chucking a smoke bomb is to far.

Granted but they then can't start moaning about attracting Police attention. Thats my point. Many Football Hooligans have used your push the boundaries and support the team how they want to line in justifying their actions. Im sure Yorks Ultas don't have any hooligan intentions but the fact remains that many ordinary fans will like the Police view throwing a smoke bomb onto the pitch as pushing that boundary just a little too far

Not sure I would go along with that, Great deal of difference between standing to support your team & throwing smoke bombs onto the pitch although I accept the point that many people have tried to associate standing with hooligan behaviour. An argument I definitely don't subscribe too
