Title: Left V Right

So what would you class yourself as, left wing, right wing or in the middle. Anyone on here with far left or far right believes?
I'm pretty much in the middle but slightly left wing myself but would like to see if anybody on here is far right or is brave enough to say they are without being shot down as a racist off of some other members.

Plenty of far right on here

Left Wing socialism, with slight leanings to communism.

Bit of both really (if that's possible) still really identify with where I'm from (a crap working class town in Essex) Dislike the growing "Americanisation" pervading in our culture be it souless football stadia or the crappy identikit chains that are destroying our high streets. Not really sure whether that's anti-globalisation or right-wing protectionism. Would identify myself as a proud Englishman who can't identify with the tossers who are currently representing our country. Yes, it sounds a bit of a cliche, but I also like Rangers, not so much because of the sectarian element (although I am a prod) but because of the English players they had playing for them in the late 80's/early 90's. Wouldn't call myself a Thatcher lover as I think that she, along with Tony Blair, have done more than most to create alot of the social problems we have in Britain today.
nick the jack - June 15, 2008 03:05 PM (GMT)
Left wing.
Labour are Conservatives in my mind. I find it sad we dont have a reasonable left wing party in this country but my vote will still be going to the Socialist party.
Agree with what was said above about disliking Americanisation. I hate everything America stands for - right wing politics, media hype, rubbish sport and the need to rule other counties, I hate them. Although I'm sure Purpleronnie will slate me for this paragraph :D

I generally have green/socialist views, with the odd traditionally conservative view thrown in. Support the Green Party of England and Wales for their generally socialist outlook and emphasis on doing things at the most local level that is practical.
Last time I did the Political Compass test I came out at:
Economic Scale: -6.12
Social Scale: -5.03

Well it explains itself. We both took the same test yet our results are different. You answered the questions to your views while I did to mine, more than likely putting down the opposite answer for the majority (I daresay there are some we put the same answer down for) . Everyone has different views.
As for a explanation. I see myself as a proud Englishman and to an extent British as well. I don't like the way we are more and more being taken over by Brussels eating away at the culture of this country changing the identity of this country(of course there are some advantages to this, I admit this as I am not a total snob). I also can't relate myself to people who are running this country. I don't like some of the far(they are far left in my opinion) left parties like Respect polices for unlimited Immigration and also for illegal immigrants to get the same medical treatment and rights to benefits that I would by not paying a penny into the system. I also believe you got to pay your way in the world and not rely on the state whoever you are(of course there are some exceptions). For the record I don't agree with the 42 day terror suspect limit. In my opinion there should be no limit on the time it takes to question terror suspects it should be as long as it takes.
But on the other hand I don't agree with far right parties (NF and in the milder form with the BNP) polices about deporting people who have lived here all their lives on the basis of the colour of their skin. But then I agree with them on bringing back the death penalty for serious crimes like murder.
If they had a chance I would vote for UKIP or English Democrats but as they have no chance in hell getting in I will settle with The Tories.

I dont understand how you can hold terror suspects for unlimited time with not enough evidence to charge them with a crime, so locking innocent people up forever is ok?
As for the death penalty there are so many problems with the death penalty I'm amazed anyone could be in favour for it? The obvious one is what about the ones who are proven to be innocent only after serving lengthy jail time, if they are dead its pretty hard for them to go free now isnt it.

I can agree with that to an extent, however from my own experience of hospitals (not much thank god awful places death and sickness everywhere) theres far more home grown dross getting medical treatment after a life time of sponging off the state.
It's one of my major gripes to be honest I think it's to easy to blame immagration for some of the ills of this country. I've grown up surrounded by people who basicaly make a living scamming the state.
I can see this thread going on for ever but one thing - the death penalty.
It simply doesn't work as a deterant just look at America all your doing is basically lowering society to their level. Add to that the expense and the endless appeals it's a stupid "solution" imo.
Eye for an eye - load of old sh*te that proven not to work everywhere it's done. Not saving I know of a solution or some kind of magic reabilitiation formula - some people are just for want of a better word not right in the head.
But killing them - no,no thats not the way

The English ones are the worst. What the government should do is stop their handouts and send them to work like the rest of us do and pay our own way.
As for the death penalty, either that or make prison tough and and an actual punishment and disciplined, none of this rehabilitation bull . Anyone watch that Louis Theroux in San Quentin last night. fcking hell, I never been inside a prison here but I bet it makes our prisons look like the teddy bears picnic
But there again your right in America it is not a big enough deterrent as people still go out and kill people, but who knows over here it may make people think twice.
Surely though this human rights culture we have about at the minute can't continue.Where the criminals come before the victims
Like you said though this can go on all day till the cows come home about this and we still be none the wiser, its just we have different views and opinions.
yorkiebarkid - June 16, 2008 09:38 PM (GMT)
Doubt it IMO, killings an emotional thing usually connected to Love, hate, power, money etc - very hard to think about the potenial results of your actions in those circumstances. Your always going to get the odd spouse stabbed after the other is found in bed with the Neighbour.
I agree perhaps jail is concidered an easy option these days but then again I never want to see the place. All down to up bringing and your social situation (I have feck all to back this up just my opinion). Prison for a lot of people is simply an occupational hazard and has always been the case.
It's finding the balance, yes it should be a punishment but also an opportunity to get out the cycle of re offending. Very difficult to do though.

Single mothers don't pay anything into the system, nor to junkies, alkies, disabled and the elderly, scrounging bastards.
And FYI illegal immigrants don't get the same medical treatment and rights to benefits as you and me, infact illegal immigrants get nothing. Asylum seekers on the other hand only get 70% of basic income support when applying for asylum and then refugees are entitled to all state benefits, which they have every right to, as when they work they'll be putting it back into the economy. And asylum seekers make up less than half a percent of those recieving benefits in Britian, outrageous.
And regarding the death penalty, you only need to see Kenny Richey's case.

I agree with most of what you say, the only thing I have an issue with is the 42 day terror limit. I don't want to go completely off topic, but I don't know how anyone can support somebody being held for 6 weeks without charge. If somebody is found guilty of planning terrorism then by all means lock them up and throw away the key.
Oh, and in answer to the original question, I'm right wing.

But there is a big difference being a 60 year old who needs a hip op, to a lay about scourger who lives on Marsh farm who never done a days work in his life but is capable to work but wants everything done for him.
That 60 year old wont be able to work though and if he paid his taxes thought out his working life and yes he is entitled to it.
