Title: England V Usa
Description: Wembley...not sold out
john_lcfc - May 28, 2008 03:39 PM (GMT)
Just seen on SSN that they have sold 75,000 tickets for the game where Becks gets his 100th cap presentation and Capello is building his team.
Just been on FA website and not surprised at £50 a go. DIsgrace.
AFC#1 - May 28, 2008 03:40 PM (GMT)
Will there be a card display laid on for the away fans?

The price, the opponents & failure to qualify for EURO 2008 always meant this game would struggle to grab the imagination. On a related note as angry as I am about all-seater stadiums I think the price of watching Football these days is now more of an issue. Tickets prices in this country have now gone beyond a joke
rwab - May 28, 2008 03:53 PM (GMT)
Yes, unfortunatley there will be. I still dont understand why the FA do it. First time there hasnt been a sell-out for an England home game for a while. They'll have to reduce the prices soon - especially with such big games as Belarus and Andorra coming up.
purpleronnie - May 28, 2008 04:32 PM (GMT)
The fact they have sold 75,000 tickets for a meaningless friendly against USA at £50 is the reason why FA sells tickets at those high prices?
I cant see many countries in the world selling that many tickets at those prices for a friendly...in fact no other country would.
Thats why they rip us off and have total control because if you and I dont go so what? We'll be replaced by some plastic moron.
ML - ITFC - May 28, 2008 04:50 PM (GMT)
My feeling towards our national team is falling all the time. I feel hardly any affinity towards them anymore, only the small hard-core vocal fans that are left. I hate the FA, Wembley is an enlarged souless bowl, ticket prices are complete joke. I'm starting to see where some United fans are coming from (except the Argentina crap).
leedskopender - May 28, 2008 05:47 PM (GMT)
ill always support my country weather there are tench or bad , ill just rather watch them down the pub rather then at wembley
AndrewFFC - May 28, 2008 06:01 PM (GMT)
Shombolic attempt to recoup money for Wembley.
Come on Dempsey...
Blackcountry Villa - May 28, 2008 06:22 PM (GMT)
What a sh!t selection aswell, surely it's about time he gave the younger players a chance in these games.
Has-been, over-rated Beckham instead of Young, what a joke
ML - ITFC - May 28, 2008 07:12 PM (GMT)
Where abouts is the main 'standing' area at England games now? Is it next to away fans still or up the opposite end?
Blues Brother CFC - May 28, 2008 07:17 PM (GMT)
I think it's where the away fans used to be, not sure though. What's the atmosphere like? any standing?
seanrothwell - May 28, 2008 08:10 PM (GMT)
Where is the away section for this game as evry1 just seems to be mixed in together

When I went to Wembley the so called singing section we're continuously targeted by stewards to sit down which worked the the amosphere died a death.
What I don't understand is the FA realised the atmosphere was poor inside wembley and started the singing section then did everything they could to suppress it....Knobs.
Not watching the game but I would bet the Americans are standing but if they are targeted by the stewards they may sit as they never get told to sit in the US they might just oblige.
tbh444 - May 28, 2008 09:13 PM (GMT)
Have been flicking between this and Iceland vs Wales on S4C... sounds like the few men and their dogs at the latter are creating the better atmosphere! Looks like Welsh fans and at least some of the home fans are standing, but maybe that's just keeping warm.
As for England selling 75k, it is incredible but surely it's the 'let's see the new stadium' factor, and it won't last - similar happened at the Millennium, some huge initial crowds against the likes of Belarus/Finland that would now draw about 10k
Standupandsing - May 29, 2008 12:45 AM (GMT)
Was it me or was their not an away fans section?
albiontilidie - May 29, 2008 07:49 AM (GMT)
ive lost interest in england, only like watching us in big touraments, went to all the qualifers before 2006 campaign but havent been since and very much doubt i will either, weve boring always fail and britain got talent was better than the game yesturday
PaulChels - May 29, 2008 08:00 AM (GMT)
The FA deliberately set out to create an England crowd like it is now... it's not a football crowd anymore it's the type of people who would go to a music event at Hyde Park, Wembley (live Aid etc.) families and blokes with girlfriends..
The england band is there to dictate what is sung and to drwon out any unsavoury songs.... wembley is a dull, sanitised over priced 'soccer' experience.....

For everyone on here who is suddenly saying that they've lost interest in England because we always fail etc, if we qualify and do well in the next World Cup I bet you'll be first to jump back on the bandwagon. If it was someone saying the same thing about supporting your club you'd be first to criticise them as a glory hunter, part-timer etc, and quite rightly so. Ill always support my country - thats what football is about. Through thick and thin you stick with it - yes we all know Wembley is a souless bowl and the FA are trying to fill it with the 'new' type of fan but then the same thing is happening at the majority of league clubs. Wembley, Old Trafford, Emirates - they're all the same. You dont give up on your club just because the atmosphere is sh*t and the new type of fan is taking over.
England away (especially qualifiers) is still the same proper support - still look forward to them ten times more than any domestic fixture. Yes we're crap at the moment but its too easy turning out every game knowing you're gonna win, thats not what football is about - years of hurt just makes the win even more sweeter when/if it ever comes.
Dont mean to rant and its not aimed at anyone in particular - just feel there too much negativity on this board. Every England game the same threads appear - everyone knows what Wembley is like by now.

England away arent much better IMO I don't think singing God Save The Queen over and over and over is anywhere near as good as fans like the Croatians, Greek, Spanish, Germans, Polish, Turkish etc....
You have to understand that some people just couldn't care less about england whether we qualify or not. It seems some people can't understand it, I can't explain it and I'm one of those who really don't care.
I think the fact England even if they do qualify always mess it up in the end and we rarely see any good performances, quite a few england players dont seem that interested compare that to say scottish players who look like they would die on the pitch for a result. Then you have all the plastic bandwagon jumpers who flood the country and stadiums when England play.
I've been threatend to be banned from forums just because I admitted I was looking forward to Euro 2008 because I wouldn't have to watch England, it all adds up to why England are quite unique despite football being our national sport quite a lot of fans are quite happy to see England fail.
Why not give up on England, its up to them I used to get so uptight and worried when England play, now I dont even watch them and I dont miss them one bit.
Its a free country (ha) you can support England or choose not to..it doesnt really matter.
leedskopender - May 29, 2008 10:22 AM (GMT)
Its your trouting country , how cant you support your country where you was born and raised
ill support england if there tench at football or playing good
the scots and welsh would have no fans if they were like most of englands
ENGLAND TILL I DIE
L.T.F.C - May 29, 2008 10:30 AM (GMT)
I support England but to be honest if people don't want to its there choice. Last night and the Mexican wave was awful and shows how bad football has come in this country. Grown men in face paint and bloody clappy sticks.
Saying about Wembley and how crap it is (I have yet to go so I cant say). I wonder what it be like if England played Turkey there. Saying that though the F.A would pile even more families and corporates in while letting the Turks get on with whatever they want to.

Well it is not the England fans fault. Those countries you have listed don't have to come against sky high prices and their governing bodies care about the fans and let them make an atmosphere. While ours care about their "clients" and how many 8 quid burgers they can shift and as long as everyone sits down and is quiet they are happy.

Not saying its england fans fault, their simply not very good. Great numbers though.

What were the USA supporters like last night? Did they stand? Were they loud? Any decent chants or was it just the USA USA USA?
I read some forum about how they were planning a few little ditties about killing British red coats and saving us in 2 world wars etc etc. Just curious if their fans were any good last night.

From what I understand a lot of the more vocal US fans who we're originally going decided to go to other games instead. So as someone stated they didnt stand or sing, but he could be anti usa, some cant say any positive about the US.
But its probably true, also to be taken into account the US fans are not used to be stewarded and told to sit, so rather than travel 1000's of miles and be thrown out they probably agreed to sit.
All in all not a true reflection on what the US support is like, I've seen what it can be like and its impressive, certainly not as good as some european fans but definately on par with others.
One fan did state they sang certain songs that were taking the piss out of england fans which some english fans didnt like so I dont know if I believe some people on here. <_<

I got offered a ticket for 40 quid, i just laughed in his face. I ended up watching Britain's got talent during the 2nd half it was that fcukin boring

I wouldn't be surprised. I bet they started the Mexican wave as well. That stadium announcer as well what a cock, it is not bloody gladiators.
loyalsfc - May 29, 2008 03:55 PM (GMT)
Atmosphere was absolutly terrible.
I paid for cheapest seats but thanks to all the empty seats, moved to a £45 seat.
England homes games...this is a thing to come, unless they lower prices. Empty seats and the atmosphere being even worse.
Left on 75 minutes, still ended up queing for the tube.
watermelon man - May 29, 2008 04:36 PM (GMT)
I thought we played quite well. Shame the atmosphere was so poor but that was probably expected. However, our fans are usually good at the major tournaments and thats where the important matches are.
I have a good feeling about Capello!!!
L.T.F.C - May 29, 2008 04:43 PM (GMT)
They even sell tickets in the home end for the away fans. Then ask not to wear colours. How stupid can you get. They are a piss take they really are.

The England away support is still magic and worth being apart of.
Was watching us vs Croatia Euro 2004 on ESPN Classic and all of England (40,000) were standing. Sweet.
Gunner Michael - May 29, 2008 06:24 PM (GMT)
I guess if tickets go on a general sale it's hard to stop whoever picking them up. That they don't seem concerned by it is a bit crap though.
Are the FA honestly proud of the corporate wankfest they've turned football, and especially England, into?
OnTheJib - May 29, 2008 07:35 PM (GMT)
The FA are the most incompetent set of salmons the game could ever want itself to be involved with.
The new wembley made a massive loss 20m was it? This with outrageous prices for tickets and programmes. My mates troutin Moscow programme was a fiver and they were askin for £20 at the FA cup final last year.
They are slowly ruining the game and who will be there to pick up the pieces when it's trouted?

Depends which England away support you mean. At the games like Belarus, Croatia, Ukraine etc... thats the proper England away support.
At tournaments you get the face paint and 'funboy' brigade that make England home games so unbearable these days.

My thoughts exactly!
I didn't even realise that England were playing until I read it on here.
I think the reason that many people don't care about the England team is because they don't seem to care themselves. It's the same reason that I don't bother with the Premiership anymore: All the diving, cheating, whinging, rich c**ts playing who don't give a damn about the team or the fans.
As for Euro 2008: I probably won't watch it but it'll be nice to have a summer without everyone going on about England somehow winning it.

I'm interested. Just because England aren't there doesnt mean you cant enjoy the games, do you only watch your team on tv?
rwab - June 2, 2008 10:06 AM (GMT)
If I see that advert one more time in gonna put my foot through the tv!! BBC trying to hype up something most people dont care about - yeah ill really support France because they're near to us - give me strength! I wont be supporting anyone, I wont even be watching. Just because we didnt qualify doesnt mean im gonna support another country - are they for real. Your team gets knocked out of the cup you dont then support/follow another team!! Idiots....
