Title: New Singing Areas At St Andrews

http://www.blues.premiumtv.co.uk/page/News...1319636,00.htmlThis is good news in my opinion. it's in the right area of the ground in the corner of the Tilton Rd. If it works there could be a snowball effect where in time the whole Tilton stands without bother from stewards and police.
Anyway, it's a start.

Or they could provide a singing section as a token gesture and then steward it even more heavy-handedly.

I've always found it a bit pathetic when the club need to organise a singing section for the fans, surely the fans know the most vocal parts of the ground anyway and would choose to go there if they wanted to stand and sing, like we've got in the Upper Holte

Its always a good thing to hear clubs wanting to improve the atmosphere.

Fans know but those who run clubs may need educating .... fair play BCFC for responding favourably. I would also guess that there is no need to shift long standing fans out of their seats to accommodate others.

I like how they've put it in the area which was invariably empty last time we were in the championship and was only more than half full once or twice this season. I think this may be a ploy to shift some of the hard to sell season tickets more than a way to improve the atmosphere

Just as pathetic as AVFC having to buy a sooper-dooper flag? :P :D (joke btw)
Not all grounds have 'noisy' sections and if they do they may be sold out? I think its good clubs are doing that, at least they know there is a lack of atmosphere and are trying to rectify it.

Good luck with it. Man City's has been very successful this season, but it'll need a relaxed approach from the stewards to be a success.

All this stuff about clubs knowing there's a lack of atmosphere and are trying to rectify it does strike me as a load of crap. It is the policies of the football authorities and the clubs that has done so much to kill the atmosphere in English football. Offering over a few hundred seats and declaring it a "singing section" is nothing more than tokenism, and will barely make any difference - just look at the Emirates. And like I say, chances are stewards will be ever more vigilant in these sections regarding standing and anything else that goes on which might threaten an atmosphere to break out.

This doesn't have to be the case. A few seasons ago City stewards made considerable effort trying to get people to sit.
With the stewards now not stopping persistent standing in seated areas in the "singing section", the club is effectively saying that it's safe to stand. I appreciate that not all supporters are as fortunate.
Yes, we'd like safe standing areas but it's surely a step in the right direction and helps the campaign.
watermelon man - May 27, 2008 02:50 PM (GMT)
Another thing is the picture of the City fans shows them all standing. This is encouraging because it means that they realise the link between standing and atmosphere and as they are advertising it with a picture of fans standing they will probably let them.
Maybe this is the way forward for the campaign. We could contact all the clubs with all seater stadiums and suggest that they follow Man Citys lead and identify "singing" sections (either existing or new) in a bid to help improve the atmosphere at games. Obviously the stewards would have to allow standing as it's a singing section.
If this happens then the campaign is a success. Safe standing and singing is basically the same thing because you have to be doing one thing to do the other!
Tufty - May 27, 2008 02:54 PM (GMT)
They want to stop ripping off fans with £45 tickets, before coming up with singing sections.
Im glad that Gold and Co got relegated, with their contempt for the paying fan.

No i wouldn't, we don't need a singing or standing section introduced by the club because we've already got one that we created ourselves, but if Randy and the board said they were thinking of introducing a singing section i'd laugh. It's going to be p!ss easy for them to steward you, obviously they're going to show pictures of fans standing and singing to get people to buy them but as if your board are actually going to allow standing, and not just that as if Birmingham council will allow an official standing section after they threatened to close down parts of the Upper Holte last season. Not just that, a lot of the fans going in there may want to sing a bit but that doesnt necessarily mean they're going to stand every game anyway. You don't even stand away so whats the odds on getting a good few thousand to stand at every home game? Very slim.
Oh and Randy does love the club and does have the fan's interests at heart as he's shown by everything he's done so far. Don't be jealous because you're run by a porn dawrf and a slag and because a dodgy Chinky wants to buy you out, poor noses. do do do do do always Coca-Cola

Harsh. It's sad if clubs find that they can't create decent atmospheres without running a campaign to do so, but if it works, why would it be pathetic? I'd rather be in a manufactured singing area than in an area that nobody sings at all.
Peter SUSD - May 27, 2008 07:25 PM (GMT)
If 'Singing Areas' become unofficial standing areas there must be encouraged.
Certainly reduces the customer care argument if all supporters in the section have chosen to be there.
RobT - May 27, 2008 08:56 PM (GMT)
No bickering now. Singing sections will only work if the supporters want them to work. If the stewards get heavy handed then they will fail.
Its better than all those England day-trippers holding up little bits of coloured cards to make a nice picture. ;-)

They dropped the ticket prices to 15 for our visit, sold more for us then the birmingham derby.
Goes to show it does work and does put people off.

OOOO ok well its hard for fans for big clubs to get into the into stadium and choose which stand to go to....if united had it best atmosphere in the league by far all the right people in one area
albiontilidie - May 28, 2008 08:19 AM (GMT)
good idea from blues each visit ive been their ive found it to be a poor atmophere
marvin - May 28, 2008 09:48 AM (GMT)
i'd normally agree that the fact it's "manufactured" is a bit lame but at OT, for instance, it'd be a godsend as we can't just pick and choose which part of the ground we sit/stand in so if they intorduced a singing (*cough* ...standing.... *cough*) section they'd then have to give people the option to move there and you'd get the decent fans concentrated together in one place.
rwab - May 28, 2008 09:58 AM (GMT)
They introduced a singing section at Wembley but then sold tickets to families etc in that section and then the stewards were totally over the top and started chucking people out for standing there. If there is a singing section it has to go hand in hand with standing and selling the tickets to the right people - the way the FA did it at Wembley is a classic example of not thinking it through.
