Top man. About time the rest of those selfish c*nts put their hands in their pockets. I give a monthly amount and I'm a student so I dont see why rich players cant give a good wack.

IMO what you do with your own money is your own business rich or poor

It certainly is, but it's nice to read about charitable acts like this.

IMO Just a way to get into peoples good books. Even though it is a nice thing to do, he'll always be Bellend to me.

Craig Bellamy gets a bad press because he's a mouthy, ballsy bloke. I bet he was an utter bastard to teach in the class room.
However, I've heard some good things about him in recent years, and by in large he seems to be a decent family man.
I also wish a few more footballers would do something like this. I don't begrudge people wealth and a good life, but after a year or two of being on £50,000 a week you and your family are pretty much set for life, so why more don't do things like this is beyond me.
well done Bellers I say.

Well said. Once you have a certain amount of money to live comftabley this is what people should do.
Should I buy a new £100k car, because its top of the range?
OR
Should I donate 100k to charity and possibly save around 50 lives with that size of money.
I dont know how people spend EXCESSIVELY on material items and then look at themselves in the mirror. Afterall 2 million children a year die of unclean water, the equivilant of nearly the whole population of Wales

What do you class as comfortable then?

I bloody hate it when people say give to this charity give to that one etc etc (mainly Irish pop "stars"). I give to charity because I want to not because I am told to.
Also how much of the money do you think goes to the people it should go to i.e make poverty history* for example?
*It will never happen

Its impossible to put a definative number on comftable, but I think common sense can be used, by all means have hobbies and enjoy yourself, but as I said, if someone buys a very expensive car and then replaces it with another expensive one soon after then that comes into 'excessive', but I think common sense tells you that.
Also about how much goes to poverty. £5m has gone to Burma from the gov. The same gov also said they plan to spend £1b on stopping our power stations from flooding and causing black outs. Is your TV staying on really that much more important than people dieing because of a lack of water. A hell of a lot more could and should be done.

Now this is my opinion and I see it is going to be the opposite to yours. Not ment to offend or anything.
But why should this country give any money to Burma(or anywhere else) at all. Not everything is perfect here so why try and fix other peoples problems when your own aren't perfect them selfs. I prefer tax money to be spent on sensible projects in this country than aboard. Or at least get things in this country get put right first then go about saving the world.

That's an extremely throw away comment, power stations are not there merely to keep the goggle box on.
Have a look round next time theres a black out (ironic statement of the day), pretty much everything you rely on goes up the spout.
That's why there spending x amount on defences
Anyway thats getting away from the real subject of the thread. If you have money, real money(which I don't) I imagine your have a lifestyle which requires real money to keep it going. I also imagine it would become very hard for such people to keep in touch with the real world trapped in their (very nice) bubble.
Fair play for doing something he believes in but forcing people to give money (or feel bad because they don't) just because they happen to earn more is not the way to go about it IMO. It's theirs and they should spend it as they wish.
That doesn't take away my feeling that some people have far to much wealth in the first place (thats another debate completely).

I'm all for charity. Wether its here or abroad. Britians raided the world of its resources for years. Its only right they start putting some back!
And being socialist i'm all for taking more cash of the middle and work class and divided it amongst the elderly, poor and needy :ph43r:
Giving Burma ANY cash is a mistake. Its ran my the military FFS! The military are demanding the £5mill charity to be handed striaght to them, if it goes to them, how much of it will go to people that actually NEED it? Fcuk all! It'll be split between the generals...
Anyway I digress......
nick the jack - May 13, 2008 09:57 AM (GMT)
I accept there would be more problems than just the telly going off if there was a black out, but it would be no where near 100k people dieing. I accept the point from the Hibs fan that with Burma's politicians you dont know where the money would be going, but I think we have to get in there, there could be 1m people dieing out there because of this and everything has to be done to prevent it.
Things aren't perfect in this country, but the most important thing is that everyone has food and drink. Until that is the case throughout the world then that should remain the planets number 1 objective, its really not asking for much.
