I take it you'll have to be stood for that...dangerous.
Amanda - May 1, 2008 08:33 AM (GMT)
Now that would be good.
Villa fans turn up as requested, but then refuse to stand up....

quality if that happened

They make it sound like a military operation, it's a flag
'If you lower Holte Enders are not in your seat 15 minutes before kick off, if one seat is empty at this time, the flag will fall to the ground, the whole operation will fail and Villa Park will blow up. We need you!'
It's a good job i'm not in the Lower Holte as the operation would fail miserably, i'm still in the pub at that time
bobby_avfc - May 1, 2008 10:16 AM (GMT)
likley to be embarasing, things usually are when they try to these types of things down villa, when do ourselves its so much better as we have more experince of it.
Amanda - May 1, 2008 10:34 AM (GMT)
Surely the fans were consulted on this?
I have to say that Villa seem extremely sympathetic to fans wishes to stand up and seem overall to be a good bunch.
Longhurst JR - May 1, 2008 10:41 AM (GMT)
Why didn't you vote for the lion design? :(

Yes it was the fans' idea, a lot of fans had requested a new overhead flag for home games on VillaTalk, the board that Randy's right hand man General Krulak uses, he then told Randy about it and the club put forward 4 designs for the fans to choose from.
You're right they do listen to what the fans want, thats the main reason Krulak uses the message boards to get a sense of what the fans want and then he relays it to Randy

Yeah. Any chance you could put the pic up if you could find it? I haven't laughed so hard in ages!
The flag would be good if it wasn't club organised. One question BCV, is the lower or upper holte more vocal/standing?

 Thank fcuk people didn't vote for this.
I agree it would have been better had the fans designed it and organised it, but credit to the club the fans put forward the idea and they responded.
The Upper Holte is more vocal and has more persistent standing, thats where my season ticket is. Every game around the back 10 rows of the Upper stand all game and sing all game no matter who we're playing, the lower Holte stand for long periods during 2nd halves when we attack the Holte and are always more vocal when they're stood which is no coincidence. When we play Blues nearly all of the Holte stand all game, the other week a few rows at the front of the Upper sat. A lot of the time though hardly anyone joins in with the back of the Upper Holte meaning a lot of the noise gets lost.

the fans did design it and organise it mate. i think it was RuberyVilla from villatalk who started it off. he then worked with the club to come up with designs and a time for it to be released etc. obviously the plan was for it to be ready for the blues game, but there were delivery problems and so it became the wigan game.
i'm pleased with the flag-i voted for the chequered one and that's the one we've got. :)

Ah right, i knew someone had put forward the idea on VillaTalk but didn't know he'd worked with the club and designed them etc.
Someone said it's the biggest 'behing the goal flag' in England, don't know if thats true or not
Tufty - May 7, 2008 08:59 AM (GMT)
Its not as big as the Giggs/Neville flag that we have at utd, but i bet it gets used a hel of a lot more times and you dont get complaints from fans who dont like it over their heads or say it smells!
Any idea on what it cost?

It looks trouting cracking don't get me wrong but this is the stuff the fans should be doing.
Its also a sad day when you need to put step-by-step instructions on the official website on how to surf a flag. I wonder how they managed to do it pre-internet days

Read through the thread again, the fans did do most of it. It was the fans' idea not the club's, but Randy's right hand man saw the idea on a message board, he told Randy and the club offered to help. So yes the board helped but it was our idea and if the fans had done it on our own it wouldn't have looked half as good.
As for the instructions yeh even i had to laugh at them as it was a bit dramatic but it was the first time it was used so the club didn't know how long it would take for it to go across the stand because of it's size. Now they know it's quick though they've said it won't be passed now until the players are coming out of the tunnel

Fair enough, good bit of PR from Randy and the club there.
Will it be passed over everygame or just saved for the big ones?

Yeah, personally i think it's great that his right hand man uses the message boards regularly, it means they know what the fans are thinking and saying and more importantly they listen to what we want.
It's going to be done every game, it's going to be alternated on a game-by-game basis between the Upper and lower Holte
