Title: Any Progress?

Haven't posted for ages, saw a sickening 'prem is amazing yadda yadda' report last night - just the sort I feared after the All British final.
To the ignorant on the face of it football looks great, but ask any hardcore fan and they're no it's far from perfect.
Are we on the rise, or still jockeying for position?

Not really standing related, but a good topic.
Football is very rosy for the big 4, none of them have lost to a forign team this year. They really have done outstanding. Then look at the UEFA Cup, no English team made it to the quarters. Since 2001 Boro are the only team to make it to the final and they were taught a lesson by Sevilla.
The Big 4 are doing great, the rest are miles away. Its now 3 years in a row of the same top 4, and sadly next season will probably be the same. I have a lot sympathy for teams like Villa and Everton, who no matter how hard they try, are miles off 4th.
PS. have you been back to see the Swans this season?

Bit of a shame that the premier league only evolves around 4 teams, hope fully next year at least two teams who are not one of the 'big 4'' will finish in the finishing top 4. Also, its nice to see an FA cup final without one of the 'Big 4' (Well done and good luck to Pompey :D ).
also, Hello SwanseaJack, i dont belive weve met! B)

I think its great that the big 4 kep winning. Someone, somewhere will surely cotton on to the fact that greed has spoiled the competition.

I couldn't care less about the premiership. I hate the total media love in with it and the new generation (Tim Lovejoy) who seem to have latched on to the concept.

I find myself in total agreement with that. Lost interest in it as soon as I became a regular matchgoer at Maidstone and discovered that the lower levels are far more interesting, which was two years ago now. Other than top and bottom I couldn't tell you a thing about the Premiership. Doubt I could even name all 20 teams.

The way in which the Premier League and the UEFA competitions are run is not very different from a cartel - helping the big and rich to get bigger and richer. It's rare that I feel proud to be part of them.
On a positive note, this season is the first time since 2004 that a team from outside of the supposed 'big four' won the league cup, and the first time since 1995 that such a team won the FA cup.

Doubt it. As long as those big four keep producing some kind of competiton for the title between them and continue to dominate the Champions League I don't really see an end to the current situation.
What's more depressing is that countries across the world are talking about how magnificent the English league is and trying to emulate it. I got a mate living in Spain and he says loads of people over there are banging on about how La Liga needs to be more like the Premiership. They think they're falling behind in terms of money going into the game (probablya are) and want to copy the English model to turn their league into a super power again.
