Title: Direct Action -
Description: Protests, Marches etc. etc.

Right well here goes, been back on this forum a couple of weeks now but by the looks of it theres not many further plans. A few more articles, a new EDM and a hell of a lot more letters. Now this isn't a dig at Amanda or Peter (or anyone else) but it looks like what really needs to be organised is a few direct protests to get the issue in the news and ultimately discussed. In my opinion you need a mixture of letters and direct action to get something across. Also I'm sure that SUSD, The FSF and all the lads and lasses from clubs could get the word spread brilliantly.

So to move it on a bit a few of my ideas on what could be done as a way of showing this.

Protest outside FA offices

Obvious one names says it all if thousands of football fans descended on London then they would have to listen. Would need to be properly organised with the police etc though I guess. Enough Southerners on here for there to be a great crowd.

Safe Standing Day II

Could find a pre-season game where yet again supporters from all over the country descend on a ground with a terrace and call for safe standing. Somewhere Central in the UK (Carlisle, York, North-East,North-West,) would be best though. Possibly could be a grassroots club.

Stop behind protest

Basically first game of the season as many clubs as possible stop behind and sing the same song with the same banner held up to get the message across.

A bit similar to Anti-Chairman etc protests.

Marches

There was one in Newcastle already which went great. We need more though.

Many many many more demonstrations that could be done, all possible. Any more ideas? A mass boycott isn't possible before that old one comes out again though.

Agreed I do think more things like this need to be done, but saying it and doing it are very different. We should definitely try and get mre banners made up for next season so everyone can take them and try and get the message across. If we get ourselves a slogan then people on here can put it on banners and take it to games, if we get loads then more people will start to take notice.

There are plans with us and the FSF to take forward the campaign, we've just got to get together to discuss them further.

Please don't ever think we're not doing things - we're always working hard in the background but some things we don't put on the board as it doesn't make sense to until we get conclusions.

There are some good ideas there though for next season. Who is prepared to start organising?

Peter SUSD - May 1, 2008 03:04 PM (GMT)
I agree that protests are a good idea and help to keep the issue alive in the minds of fans and those in the media & authorities who will listen, however it is my firm view that the battle will be won 'behind the scenes'. However this can't happen if we aren't seen to have the support of many fans.

So good, well organised and well attended peaceful protests are a good idea.

Problem with some of these before has been getting someone to organise and getting more than a few fans interested in protesting at something that doesn't directly affect the success or survival of their club.

Some good ideas in orignal post which should be discussed in the summer.

JR04 - York City - May 1, 2008 03:09 PM (GMT)
You're all welcome to descend on York for a pre-season friendly! Or any other game for that matter!
2 decent sized terraces, a beautiful City overflowing with pubs, rail access as good as anywhere in the country etc...
Oh aye, and we need every bit of cash we can get our hands on :ph43r: :D

There we go, what looks like a great chance to get together in a pretty much Central area with as pointed out great rail connections.

Only possible problem here is that by the look of it all but 1 of there pre-season games are on a weekday.

Tuesday 8th July, Tadcaster Albion (A) 7.30pm
Friday 11th July, Leeds Utd. (H) 7.30pm
Friday 18th July, Middlesbrough (H) 7.30pm
Tuesday 22nd July, Barnsley (H) 7.30pm
Friday 25th July, Harrogate Railway (A) 7.30pm
Wednesday 30th July, Hartlepool Utd (H) 7.30pm
Saturday 2nd August, Sheffield FC (A) 3.00pm

Anybody else got a club with Terraces that they would recommend? Mine is Newcastle Bluestar, next to no support and struggling for money aswell so the club would be more than happy to put on something they were over the moon to get 500 FC United fans in and put entertainment etc on for them. Also has 2 Great terraces at Kingston Park (Used as Newcastle Falcons rugby stadium) (Might just be with being from up here mind). Easy to get to by rail from Most places and easy ground to find from Central Station simply get the Metro to Kingston Park/Bankfoot.

Carlisle United - 2 great terraces but might not be happy with thousands turning up and using there club.

Berwick Rangers? Might be a bit North for some of us but yet again a terraced ground.

Finally as for a protest in London, if one of the London teams with teracing have a game would that not be a chance to kill two birds with one stone? I mean the ammount of teams in London could get a sizeable crowd together outside the offices who could then all gather and go to the game together on a terrace proving what we all know is right that there is no trouble with standing.

Feedback now then and hopefully SUSD as a campaign and the FSF could work something out if people agree with these suggestions.

Barnet have friendlies against Arsenal on July 19th, Leeds on the 26th and Watford on the August 2nd. The Arsenal one is out of the question really as tickets are already on sale I believe and all go fairly quickly but I can't see the other's being anywhere near sell outs. One of those could be ideal. For those that don't know, at Underhill there is one terrace behind the north goal, and the East Terrace, which is down one entire side of the ground.

I know there are quite a few Barnet fans who use this board who could assist more.

Hello,

Yeah don't bother with Arsenal, the tickets are stupidly expensive.

The club are doing a buy one, get one free scheme for the Leeds and Watford friendlies. Prices are £15 for adults and £7 for consessions for the 2 matches. Probably not the best news for you lot because it's unlikely that if you have far to travel that you want to go to both.

We have the North and Northwest terraces (uncovered) and the east terrace (covered). It's a good idea to combine one of these games with a protest outside FA headquarters!

To get there, just get a train anywhere into London and then get the tube up to High Barnet (northern line) and the ground is 2 mins walk away (with a pub called the Old Red Lion en route).

I think this is a great idea! All we need is to decide which game suits everyone best and see how many are actually interested and then we are sorted!
