Title: Thomas Cook - Prices For Moscow
Description: Official Club Travel Package
BHB - April 17, 2008 08:38 PM (GMT)
Thomas Cook now run the european trips as the official agent of the club, the official trip the club advertise and recommend if you like. They've just announced our ticket details if we get to the final, and the trips available - £780 for a day trip! Match ticket on top, and I presume the visa is as well. Scandalous
gooner1 - April 17, 2008 10:19 PM (GMT)
Obviously would have loved to have got to Moscow but it does help when you know that atleast one English team is going to have to pay those prices while your at home sitting in you armchair watching the game. Still though it's scandulous eufa were allowed to get away with putting the final in Moscow.
AFC#1 - April 18, 2008 07:49 AM (GMT)
To get your ticket do you have to fly direct to Moscow or can you go via Riga or something?

And is it a scandal that Uefa have put the Uefa Cup final at Manchester? Possible forcing Zenit fans to travel the same distance. Pot Kettle....
The final should be hosted all over Europe, after all its a competition for teams all over Europe.
Those that say it should be in Spain, France and Britian is just the typical Western dominated society we live in.

Zenit fans won't have to pay £60, £70 or whatever for a visa though would they.
I agree it should be all over Europe, but not in countries where you have to pay for a visa to get in, taking the piss there.
tbh444 - April 18, 2008 12:42 PM (GMT)
£65 - see
http://www.ukvac-ru.com/visafees.aspxNot that I think two wrongs make a right, but you can understand the Russkis not wanting to get into an unbalanced arrangement.
Surely the bigger scandal is the other constraints they want to make against independent travel - £780 for a daytrip where you'll probably be banned from even seeing much when there is outrageous
marvin - April 18, 2008 01:38 PM (GMT)
i think a good restriction would be that only EU member countries be allowed to host the final of either competition. That way you'd be making it more likely that the fans of the two teams in a given final would have the fewest restrictions on travel. and it'd give non-member countries one more reason to join.
BHB - April 18, 2008 02:47 PM (GMT)
I've only used the organised trips a handful of times, when I needed to get back straight after the game. Avoid them all other times.
The lads I know that are going to Moscow, most of them have already booked. Flying all over Europe and then flying into Moscow from their various destinations, or gettting as close as possible and spending 10hrs+ on a train to get to Moscow from the airport they fly into.
Loads of ways of getting there if prepared to do a bit of digging and travelling. I just find it scandalous the way companies like Thomas Cook are allowed to charge those sorts of prices, simply for chartering a flight. Yet more exploitation of football fans.
That's before you see the prices for the match tickets!
A handful of tickets at £165, just under half of the 21,000 allocation being priced at £117, and the remainder at a bargin basement £67 each.
To offer a comparison - My ticket for the final in Istanbul only 3 years ago was £15.
So who sets these prices? And is the pricing policy now a deliberate policy in order to attract the crowds UEFA and the host city want? Do they see increased prices as a way of putting off the riff raff that follow teams? Rid their trophy final of the working class rabble that drink and sing? Wanting only middle class fans who will "behave"?
Then add on top the price of the visa, the extortionate hotel costs and price of food and drink in the city, oh, and don't forget the £780 for a flight in and out if you go with Thomas Cook. Can't exactly be labelled as "the fans final" can it? Not even close.
Not many working men can afford to take 3 or 4 days off work to travel independantly to Moscow for a final. Trekking around the outposts of Europe to make 3 connections in getting to Moscow, the only way possible in order to get there for less than £500. People, like myself, can't have that amount of time off work. I had to do a daytrip to Athens for just over £400 as I needed to be back in work on the Thursday morning. Thomas Cook now have the cheek to charge £780 for a return flight!! Oh, and don't forget the coach back to the airport from the ground. Wow. Bargin. Their reps at the airports are non existant, as others will testify after the chaos of Istanbul and Athens airports.
Exploitation at it's finest. Not only by the airlines and travel agengies cashing in on fans needing to get to Moscow - but UEFA as well with their scandalous ticket prices.
They don't deserve people to buy them.
albiontilidie - April 18, 2008 04:25 PM (GMT)
glad albion aint been in europe reading these posts
feel for you all
Jonny PUFC/THFC - April 20, 2008 07:48 PM (GMT)
Just to make this clear, Thomas Cook do not charge £780 because they want to. The clubs agrees on an amount of profit they expect to receive per plane and the % of profit that they are happy for TC to receive. TC set their prices around that. This means with TC making there usual 20% profit as they do on the majority of holidays and because the clubs want a peice of the pie the prices go through the roof. If you don't like it, blame your club not a comapny who have been given the chance to make a profit. If the clubs didn't demand such large profits then official europe away would be a lot cheaper

Very true they all want a much of our doh as possible.
I've got nothing against it being in Russia - infact I'm looking forward to going should we get there but
1) The visa thing is a joke and will be utter chaos come the fortnight we have left comes round to sort them all
2) The price of the tickets themselves - how on earth are these set, Russians or UEFA or both?
You can get half way cheap deals to Moscow for a cuple of days still - but then you add on 2 ton for a ticket and a visa it makes it blo0dy stupid - alot are treating Barca as the cup final and I don't blame them
Jonny PUFC/THFC - April 21, 2008 08:04 PM (GMT)
oh and I know this because I work for TC and just today I received my conformation that I'm doing the CL final :o See you there!
Tufty - April 25, 2008 04:45 PM (GMT)
Its no wonder they dont want he real fans there.
last years final showed why exactly you wouldnt want half the people there - robbing their own fans, kicking in gates/walls charging turnstiles, fakes galore.
JTsBlueArmy - April 25, 2008 05:03 PM (GMT)
Have united or liverpool said anything about visas???
In our ticket details section it reads...
| QUOTE |
Visa and passport information All supporters must have a valid visa and passport in order to gain entry to Russia. It is anticipated that supporters will be able to secure a visa at Stamford Bridge when they collect their ticket. Full details to follow. |
So I don't want to sort out a visa just incase I can do it easily at the ticket office, but as usual they won't tell us untill last minute!!!
United fans know if they have tickets or not, liverpool fans can book their thomas cook packages, whilst we don't have a clue whats happening

Just imagine if United had got there as well then
RE the visa issue - up for debate that one it takes a while to get it done if you go the normal route. However do you trust your club to handle 16k+ visa apps in the course of about 2 weeks?
I don't
Jonny PUFC/THFC - April 27, 2008 07:33 PM (GMT)
no idea how the hell its going to work. I have had my passport sent away already...
Jonny PUFC/THFC - April 29, 2008 09:01 PM (GMT)
bloody hell two english clubs. can the moscow OB really deal with that many english fans??? got a riot written all over it!
JTsBlueArmy - April 29, 2008 09:11 PM (GMT)
Gutted they've got through, and we're playin a day later, by tommorow night the flight prices and seats will be probably all taken by mancs
yorkiebarkid - April 30, 2008 05:32 PM (GMT)

trout what happened???
Thomas Cook main call centre was crazy from 8am today, people paying up to 2k for flights as they had to travel on the day of the game. If you went online in the morning there were flights from about 250pp, still worth hunting around.
Go on thomascook.com, then flights and select your dates on the right. If you fly out on 19th and back on 23rd you can get them from £339, thats flying out of Heathrow. To be fair thats not bad. Book the moment you know your going, they are going to go THROUGH THE ROOF!
Every single seat will be taken on every single flight, Moscow is going to be CRAZY
just checked more times, £314 flying overnight on the 20th may
hibs1875 - April 30, 2008 09:27 PM (GMT)
Its not that bad! Its Moscow FFS not Mars your going to.
A quick Expedia check and you can fly direct to Moscow from London for £438, leaving on the Monday returning on the Friday. My old man and 1000 others paid £500 for flights and a 1 night stay in Ukraine for a Uefa Cup QUALIFIER!
BTW Check the prices of tickets >
http://www.soldoutentertainments.com/champ...-70_44_335.html
yorkiebarkid - April 30, 2008 09:40 PM (GMT)
Cheap deals are still available over longer periods of time Monday through to Friday etc but then add in all the other stuff around it
Visa
Ticket
Hotel
Beer
Bribes etc and your looking at a wedge
We had an in and out job sorted before the first leg of the semi for just over £320 - however after the 0-0 everybody got cold feet on the gamble and low and behold everything goes through the roof
It's the visa issue mainly nobody has a clue yet what they are going to do but the strong rumours are that chartered flights ae going to get sorted somehow - private routes are all down to how and when you go about applying
Add in a total of three bank holidays between us and Russins between now and the final and well chaos will ensue.
Hence why our lot handed over a small fortune (in my opinon) this afternoon
Ah s*d it I should cheer up it's just staggering the pure stupidity of having it over there is. Norhting to do with the place I was rather looking forward to a jolly over there it's just this visa rubbish. How on earth did they figure this would be a good idea?
Oh and the rip of briefs - christ who made those prices up eh?
OnTheJib - April 30, 2008 10:31 PM (GMT)
You won't have to worry for another season anyway now

what a quality addition you are to the fight for standing terraces.
the fight would have more creedence if you trouted off and let the grown ups stand up for what is right.

No way should a final be played in a country where visas are required.
If you shop around a bit and are prepared to go to Moscow via places like riga or Frankfurt and that it's still cheap enough.

Fkn hell, I was £340 and was there for 3 nights!
marvin - May 1, 2008 09:09 AM (GMT)
through some sheer magic yesterday i got flight from m/cr via copenhagen going on tuesday back thursday for just £394! now then, somewhere to stay and a visa and i'm sorted.
BWA_Ultra - May 1, 2008 12:04 PM (GMT)
The prices most definitely too much, I guess they just presume that fans will pay it so they don't miss out!

in answer to your pre-edited question - united want just short of £1000
BWA_Ultra - May 1, 2008 12:13 PM (GMT)
Rediculous mate, I edited it as I sort of got the wrong end of the stick about the reason the thread started.
How about hiring a mini-bus :)

Zenit St Petesburgh (sp?) are gunna need a visa to come here if they get to the Uefa cup final. So would fans from several other countries in Eastern Europe. Does that mean we shouldnt be allowed to hold a final?
LH_88 - May 1, 2008 02:42 PM (GMT)
I've decided to make a stand and not go.
Worked out earlier that I've already spent (roughly) £5500 following United this year. I'm not gonna stick another grand and a bit on that because of UEFA's incompetency.
Watch it in Manchester with about 15 mates, celebrate a glorious victory and then watch the team come in the next day. Will cost me about £200.
Obviously I'm gutted not to be going - but I'm not going to pay stupid money when there shouldn't be a need.
Utd 90210 - May 1, 2008 03:04 PM (GMT)
A lad I know is flying to Riga with some other lads and hiring a car there to drive the rest of the way. Will be a bastard of a drive but it will only cost them about £126 each.
I'm just going to watch it somewhere in Manchester.
Tufty - May 1, 2008 03:30 PM (GMT)
I wouldnt even risk it with the drive, if the roads dont kill you, the bandits will.

Those bandit stories, myths surely....

well done to chelsea for not being idiots like united who have announced they "forsee our tickets will be available for collection from 12th may" that's 9 days before the bleedin' match! the processing time for visas is 5 days and you're supposed to have your ticket to get a visa!

Do you actually have to have your match ticket in your hand for the visa.
My mate just did a print screen in the booking history as proof that he's got a ticket for the visa application.
The cheapest I've heard of getting there is £205 return which will take four days. As the bit to moscow from riga is an overnight train, and it leaves after the match as well so you don't have to book accommodation. But I've heard most people are paying about £700/800 on flights to get there.

it does say on the visa website that electeonic proof that you've got a ticket is good enough - doesn't state what that can be though. it'd be nice if united at least gave a bit more help than just a line in a statement on the website saying, "we'll tell you something when we know it - you'll probably get your tickets 5 minutes before you leave"
as for price we got ours for £394 from m/cr via copenhagen. admittedly that was a tremendous find as everything else was saying at least £700-800
yorkiebarkid - May 5, 2008 11:11 AM (GMT)
Champions Sports now saying it's looking more and more likely that we'll have to get visa's through the normal route as United are not getting any information.
