Title: Promotion Celebrations

tbh444 - April 13, 2008 01:36 PM (GMT)
Was just watching the Swansea celebrations over the weekend, and it is increasingly striking that the player's celebrations look 'stage managed' - why is it that every time a team wins promotion / reaches wembley etc etc a cheesy sponsored banner appears out of nowhere for the team to jump up and down with? Makes you wonder if they have had lessons before the game or something. Do none of the players object to their efforts over the season being exploited in this way?

And as those who have been to cup finals and experienced 'rockin all over the world' at top volume know the fans' celebrations have long been going the same way.

Agreed. Those banners are pathetic. The music is also very unfortunate. When we won the league cup, some crappy pop song was drowning out our chanting.

I think they only had one little flag for our celebration. So although I agree with what your saying it didn't cross my mind until you just mentioned it. Also as it was open there was no music over the tannoy which meant we could sing. The players stayed out for about 10 minutes, and the the 10 minute walk back to the bus was a great celebration. If our celebrations didn't look mad it was because promotion has been in the bag for a while. A few people tried to get on the pitch but they were taken away and there were dogs on the pitch. It was a shame as I have been on the pitch in at Bury, Brentford and Chesterfield, but never mind.

24 years of waiting over :D

Oh well that's one thing if it wasn't obvious from the stands, guess it was made for the tv cameras anyway so makes sense, seemed a bit sad that they had it in the dressing room (but maybe only for the 30 second clip!)

Congrats on promotion, I look forward (pending survival) to another local game next season, although not your fantastic stewards obviously!

Promotion Celebrations!?!

Saturday we had a relagation party, at Gainsborough, lost 2-1 officially down now, going on a Unibond Tour next season. Took a decent away following as we hired a coach and dubbed it our official relagation party, superb day. Pitch invasion at full time and all sorts.

We've now also printed some stickers for next season (and the rest of this) to stick around various grounds and places 'Astra Army - Leythers On Tour'

I think he supports Coventry, that or Leicester, not sure which ;)

The worst bit of any promotion/cup win is waiting for them to build a stage for the cup to be presented to them. What a load of crap.

The best bit of the promotion celebrations back in 2002 when we beat Luton to top spot in the 4th division was when our skipper, Plymouth lad Paul Wotton, grabbed the microphone off the announcer and led the crowd in a rendition of a couplf of Argyle songs.

Absolute legend.

Yes Coventry City, but lived in Cardiff for nearly 6 years now. When I got here it felt like a footballing desert but now could be Swans Cardiff and Brizzle all in the right division (hopefully!) (Although I also 'follow' Darlington as a second team from Uni days so saw them at the Vetch a couple of times, once in front of about 3000 I think, odd how fortunes change)

oh get you. Do you like Cardiff at all then? and I think I remember the Darlo game you mention in front of 3,000, we won 2-0 and had a great goal from 30 yards. Since the new stadium we've had a load of new fans. I dont know why it has happened to Swansea and not other clubs like Donny, but at least the positive is that we are geeting some success thanks to them.

I hope we can help you out, but if we lose 5-1 at home to Coventry imagine what Stoke will do to us.

Well it is our last ever game at layer road so it is a big game for us too! I really hope Stoke do not go up but then I don't want Hull to go up either.

Does anybody have any more pictures of pitch invasions as there is a big debate on our forum about any pitch invasions at our last game.

Photos from the last game at grounds would be even better than promotion celebrations.

Maybe you can get the same kind of organised, pre-arranged, up your own arse "closing ceremony" we had. Then when it's all over, the stewards can uncerimoniously chuck everybody that's left out for the final time :(

nick the jack - April 23, 2008 03:47 PM (GMT)
Get on that pitch. At our old ground we'd be on there once or twice a season. The last game of every season no questions asked, every end of season promotion, or even getting in the play offs. We had them for our last 2 games at the Vetch, and we had one once in November to protest against our chairman.

The only one we've had at the new stadium was on Sat. It will probably take something special for the next one.

But last game at Layer Road, get the hell on there :D
