Title: Loudest fans
Steve - October 27, 2006 11:41 AM (GMT)
Apart from your own club who are the loudest fans you have witnessed first hand.
Being a Wycombe fans the loudest we have had this eason are Swindon although they did take 1300. Peterboro were quietest with 500 and didnt hear them at all. I was in a pub with a load of Pompey fans and they are amazing - surprislngly some of the loudest fans I have witnessed at a game was Aldershot Town they cant half sing on their old terrace.
Blues Brother CFC - October 27, 2006 01:15 PM (GMT)
I make you right about the shots. There used to be some good video's of their support and their flag displays on youtube.
The loudest fans I have witnessed first hand have all been foreign im afraid to say. Atmosphere's in Europe are just in a differen't league.
In England I would have to say United
red_rose - October 27, 2006 04:40 PM (GMT)
Man united's away support. Best in england imo. Great fans.
Phil - LUFC - November 9, 2006 08:54 PM (GMT)
I think Plymouth are very well supported vocally and their fans deserve a mention, travel a hell of a long way and they turn up in numbers at Elland Road and put in the effort. Brighton were one of the best teams to visit ER last season vocally, and considering they turn up at the Withdean 'stadium' week in week out.....

Im not being jingoistic because I dont like Man U but they seem repetive to me and going with the old cliche "only sing when theyre winning", after seeing them on telly a few times this season they have not stood out as anything special.
West Ham seem the loudest and most passionate at Anfield so far and when ive seen them on telly.
But any European opposition has wiped the floor with English sides when it comes generating an atmosphere so far this season. The most notable have been Galatasaray and Bordeaux(even when 3-0 down, dead and buried). Also the relatively few Israelis who made the trip with Maccabi Haifa sung and bounced about all game.

man utd probably have the largest active songbook in the county so i dont know how you can call them repetive.
Seb - November 14, 2006 04:18 PM (GMT)
When Werder Bremen came to town they sang the same song over and over for about 40 minutes. I had it stuck in my head for days afterwards.

Last time i went to old trafford, manchester united you were leading 1-0 and all i
could hear was my fans signing there hearts out, even though the manchester fans sang abit aswell to be fair to them. But as soon as we got the equalizer, we didnt hear you for the rest of th game, so please do not go on about your fans being the best in the country, total nonsence.
Major J - November 14, 2006 10:35 PM (GMT)
Plymouth fans do very well considering how far awy from home they are every away game.
Man U may have the largest song book in the countre but it dont mean they know them all!
hereward - November 14, 2006 10:48 PM (GMT)
This must be a Leeds thing about Plymouth.I rate them too.
It would seem that almost everybody thinks their own away support is the loudest. We do!!
I have to say Man U always travelled to Leeds and were quite vocal, as were Liverpool and Newcastle, but I always liked Everton's fans support.
The best of the southern sides were Spurs and West Ham.

I agree. I dont get the impression that Man U have better or worse away fans than the next team, away fans are generally always louder and in better voice unless its a big game, cup or champions league were the home fans would be more up for it too. For away fans its a day out and if we go away we usually have our throats lubricated and we are in good song before we even get in the ground.
Bo*loc*s about the biggest songbook as well, with the amount of "noveau United fans" knocking about since the beginning of the Sky generation(last 10 years or so) how many of your oldest and traditional songs get a good airing?
I would like to say our away fans are the loudest and most varied, Liverpool, but I wouldnt know how to compare it without being biased.
West Ham are the loudest and best English team for me, with Benfica the loudest and best overall.
Guest - November 15, 2006 05:45 PM (GMT)
Leeds away support is generally very loud, although I would say that, as I'm a Leeds fan.
The best over recent years at ER have been Sheffield Wednesday and Plymouth by far.
The worst; Wigan and Colchester.

Nobodies on about home fans their all crap in the PL these days. As for away it's the define right of the away fan to sing there heart out it's what it's all about, however I'd offer you a wager that Manchester United have a far more diverse active song book than 99.9% of other clubs fans and if your in doubt run down your lots and I'll run down ours (how fucking sad is that).
As for the "noveau United fans" we'll you have just summed up your ABU status have you ever seen the crown at a United away?
loyalsfc - November 16, 2006 01:00 PM (GMT)
Cardiff have very loud fans along with leeds and Man Utd.
Waccoe 75 - November 16, 2006 05:17 PM (GMT)
have to say portsmouth fans are generally quite good as are sheffied united.
although im a leeds fan i have tosay that we are one o fht ebest in the country.
walesy - November 16, 2006 08:34 PM (GMT)
Plmouths and Brigtons away support has been the best at ER in the last
few years.
Probly being biased but Leeds fans generally outsing the opposition home and
away, saying that we dont normally come against strong support in the
championship ;)
Dave - JR04 - November 20, 2006 12:15 PM (GMT)
Plymouth, Brighton, Portsmouth.
Best of all - York City :D
Geordie_Doby - November 20, 2006 05:49 PM (GMT)
Newcastle , Pompey Leeds, Man U Liverpool. West Ham
I feel that most Southern teams are quite quiet and the further north the more continental an approach you get. With the exception of Pompey and possibly West Ham i dont feel that there is really any better support. No offense to anybody on here meant. You obviously just have a majority of boring supporters / a Over strict stewarding policy at your club. Chelsea I feel could have good support if anybody who would sing could afford a season ticket.

Good topic - Did I see someone say Wigan dont make much noise
Best visitors to Hilton Park would have to be Carlise on a Tuesday night brought over 2,000 fans they were loud as fook!
Last season Northwich were loud also.
Standupandsing - November 30, 2006 08:11 PM (GMT)
Think PLymouth, Man C and Pompey deserve a mention.
Best I have seen First hand at Walkers is either Plymouth or Hull << they even sang at half time :o
tbh when city have been away never seen anything special.
N_F_F_C - November 30, 2006 10:48 PM (GMT)
Best at the City Ground over the years probably Derby, Leicester, Cardiff, Swansea. There the first that come to my head, although Derby & Leicester were derbies so doesnt really count <_<
purpleronnie - December 1, 2006 06:57 PM (GMT)
Best I saw at walkers were brighton and norwich (although I was right next to them).
United were also great and had the most songs, leeds also were good.
1st PSG v's marseille
2nd DC United v's Chivas - in america.... yes america
3rd Hamburg SV v's Bayern Munich
Unfortunately anything I've seen in england dosen't come close.
I guess the best atmosphere in UK was Leicester in the play off finals against swindon back in the day.
Kinda sad really.

werent you at the leicester 1-4 mufc game?
or any of the games before that at filbert street involving mufc?
Leicester was always a top away for mufc, easy to wind up aswell.
Everton were ok in periods the other night, but all sat. Best at old trafford this year have been fc copenhagen, no suprise there.

I'm Arsenal and i got to say last season our general away support was shit but this season it's been great. We went to man city's ground and outsung them for the whole match, same with united and reading, bolton, fulham and charlton but west ham's probably been the best i've seen this season there was great banter even though we lost we didn't stop singing.
Man Utd's probably got the best away support in the country i hate Man Utd but i always watch there matches because most of my faily's united and Man Utd are amazing really loud and thier song book is massive loads of different chants. The best that have come to our place have been Zagreb and the english club would be Newcastle they were class.

Have to admit mate I've been pretty impressed with your away support this season (well compared to previous seasons), especially West Ham and Fulham where it looked like your whole support stood all match. Fair play to the library boys ;)
Should be a decent atmosphere next weekend, hopefully the place won't be flooded with foreign tourists.

In Lge 1 Forest are the best, but they do have most numbers. Yeovil are really good, so to Huddersfield. Swansea are probably in the top 5, at our old ground we were one of the best in the country. Nowadays its only good for the big games. p.s. went to Reading on Sat their fans were loud, whilst Bolton were silent.

oh yea forgot to say as well, stockport county are the team that has the biggest team song sheet in the country, FACT, not man united that have a songwriter write the songs for them, and hands out sheets of paper in pubs near the ground.
