Title: Spurs V West Ham
Description: trouble in away end

Any West Ham folk on here know what was going on with stewards/old bill in away end during 2nd half? Looked like a bit of a disagreement between the various parties... :ph43r:
Sorry if already posted.

All I know is that the police moved in "mob handed" to eject one fan and various people with their kids were not happy at the numbers of police. I'm not sure why this supporter was singled out for ejection.
I didn't go but Peter did and he said that the policing was oppressive, they were nearly all wearing riot gear, that there were 38 of them on the concourse at half time. After the game the police formed a line to stop the two sets of supporters being able to mix with each other but just a short distance from the ground there were no police!
There was also an incident with a steward winding up the West Ham fans about the score. Some say it was good natured, others say it could have got nasty. Suffice to say, his behaviour breached the Green Guide and he was eventually removed.

Cheers Amanda. Must admit I've heard one or two stories now about policing/stewarding in the away end. As far as I'm aware there was the usual banter but nothing worthy of the heavy handedness that seemed to be going on. Sorry to hear there may have been kids in the vicinity.
The police in our section were also in riot gear (and constantly just standing in the way, almost tempting someone to have a go at them and get nicked).
I didn't see much of the pre or post match policing in Park Lane other than the usual convoy of vans, flashing lights etc. The line of Police then nothing tactic outside the ground is normal. The thinking seems to be that by the time the line has ended the fans have mingled. There's Police on horses and in the flats with cameras watching it all though. I've not seen any real trouble TBH other than a couple of minor skirmishes between mouthy types rather than what I'd call the real nutters. It does make for a bit of a moody few moments as supporters are allowed to mix. I'm still stuck in the 80's when away fans were always kept in for half an hour
There was one west ham fan at the end going absolutely ballistic. Fully entitled to in my opinion. Can't see Curbishley lasting long.

Yesterday was the most police I've ever seen at a football match, by a long, long way.

He kept you up last season and he has had bad luck with injuries. 10th is good for a team like West Ham...

Apparently it was Carlos Tevez who kept them up...

I have never understood why they allow away fans of clubs like arsé chels and spam out of WHL at the same time as home fans. Chelsea game (can't remember if that was last season or the one before) they let chelsea out and then pinned them against the wall, why didn't they just keep them inside??? arsenal, they let us out at the same time them form a line of police and it all gets a bit 'heated' whats the point??? why not give spurs ten min to clear off then let them out

There was a huge number of police yesterday, nearly all in riot gear.
I didn't see any trouble outside and have heard no reports of it.
Police formed a line across road and held back fans before kick off for no apparent reason.
I didn't see why police moved in to eject a fan - no one seems to know, but surely it coudl ahver waited until after the game. About 8 or 10 in riot gear pushed others, including apparently kids, out if the way and many West Ham fans were very angry at their action. Some moved down and police were pushed.
I understand that a few were ejected from concourse at half time too.
As usal there was a line (much of it double) of police about 70 yards outside the ground, then none all the way to the station. Why do they always think that any trouble will be close to the ground?
I have made a complaint about the steward and Spurs repleid within an hour. Said they condemned behaviour and he will be subject to internal disciplinary procedure.

I'd say the money west ham lashed out in the january window kept them up.
Peter - Glad to hear complaint made against steward. Please keep us posted if you hear anything else. Cheers.

Football: The Family GameHave a look at the two pictures at the bottom of this thread: if I were attending a game for the first time, and came across this lot I think I'd probably turn around and go back home again!

Why that many police, in the city with the highest gun crime. Do they sort it out no. They more bothered playing at the football then they have the cheek to ask for more pay.
