Title: Stewarding In Away End @ Liverpool V West Ham

Hammer Kevin - March 6, 2008 02:48 PM (GMT)
Went to Anfield last night to watch the mighty Irons ( :( ).

Some very aggresive stewarding of the West Ham fans. The Head Steward particularly felt it was his personal duty to tell each individual person to sit down. So the first half was punctuated by the parts of the crowd sitting then all getting back up again to sing, take the p***.

A number of fans were ejected just for not sitting down, culminating in a stadium announcement during the first half telling all of the West Ham fans to sit down.

Suffice to day this was ignored by the vast majority. By the second half the stewards seemed to have lost all interest in enforcing this rule, and we all stood to enjoy (??) the match.

One very unecessary incident. A very vocal Liverpool fan in the section next to the West Ham fans decided to stand up and swap some banter. Nothing too aggressive and everyone (home and away) enjoyed it. Then the stewards in the Liverpool section had to go and tell him to sit down and behave. Pointless, it was totally harmless.

Did exactly the same when we were there. Manged to only get the block closest the the main stand to sit(which was full of men with there kids and few youngests and the lot who travel to every game and havnt missed one since 1975 or something like that) and even they got back up in the end. I always rember a steward looked the typical Harry Enfield scouser minus the perm he had the Tash, walk the lot  flapping his arms about like he was a fcuking seagull. Wouldnt dared tried it with the block I was in(the next one along). Some very undisierables in that one  .

Never had any problems with their stewards personally, they've always just left us to stand. Oh except when some of our fans went in fancy dress last game of the season and they threw a lad in a monkey suit out for nothing, cue chants of 'we want our monkey back'

Didn't see them trying to sit 20,000 Liverpool fans at the Milan match a week before.

They are loads of new stewards at Anfield and they are all bully boys. They wind people up to try and get them nicked.

306 sang at our Stewards "where were you in Tuesday night (Milan)" against Boro they seem to have it in for us more. But the bouncing last night (V West Ham)really got one back over on them.

I am embarresed and ashamed when I see the stewards move in on the away fans.

How did the protest about the owners go?

The stewards in the away end have changed their attitude in the past few weeks.

Luton, Barnsley, Boro, West Ham all had the treatment recently. It's embarrassing. They left Newcastle alone yesterday though. Always do when there's no chance of getting them seated. Pick on easy targets. I was just surprised West Ham were classed as easy targets. Usually good standers.

But it was the Luton and Barnsley ones that annoyed me. FA Cup and lower league sides enjoying their big day out, only for stewards to throw lads out and spend all game trying to get them sitting. Pathetic.

Just on about the stewards moving it to get everyone to sit.

Can't remember you having much standing.
