Title: Bbc 'white Season'
Description: How white working class feel ignored
RobT - March 6, 2008 11:37 AM (GMT)
From a safe standing view I think its worth contributing to that debate.
BWA_Ultra - March 6, 2008 01:26 PM (GMT)
Surely they haven't admitted that white people exist without following on to say they are racist.
James - March 6, 2008 05:02 PM (GMT)
This is a very interesting series, although personally I'd prefer it if it was about the Working Class as a whole, and not just the white working class.
Cardiff-my adopted home- has never had a white working class as such. Since the city developed, it has attracted scores of Irish, and people from around the world working in the docks. We were home to one of the UK's first multicultural communities, and believe it or not the first mosque in the UK was built in Cardiff. The city now is a multicultural and very mixed race, but with a clear and proud working class heritage, It's this I'd prefer to see promoted rather than a specific race within it.
That said, 'white British' people are sometimes over looked, or taken for granted, so like I said, this series is still valid.

Keeping with SUSD Im certain I rember (dont hold me to it who) some pratt which power has got to their head saying more ethnic minoirites go to football since standing stop etc etc some crap on those lines. Anyway this is bullcrap what would make a black bloke not stand and a white bloke standing. Look at my signature pic to prove that statement wrong.
Another one trying to get more asians in football. People dont need to be forced to chose what they want to do. If people want to go to football let them abeit if they are white, black, asian or fcking blue That shouldnt count. But not pick out one group (anyone bar white working class male) and disrimiate any other people by giving them free tickets etc.

Swansea is probably not as multi cultural as a lot of larger cities, but there is a fairly high and growing percentage, and what really bugs me is they all seem to support a big 4 team (especially Arsenal), I'm not racist at all, and appreciate it is a free country, but I wish they would respect the city which has largely accepted and welcomed them and support Swansea.
I dont believe in any form of positive discrimination, but I do have a chip on my shoulder about a lot of their attitudes to football.

At the college I went to (Living in Luton with its high non white population Actully I was a ethnic minority at college but you dont see me getting help to settle in and extra help anyway thats a different matter).
Everyone supported either.
Man U
Liverpool
Arsenal
and
Brazil or France or Italy(saying that not naming any names a few on here take them over england)
Now I dont know as the asian area of Luton (bury park) is where as you may have guessed where Lutons ground is. Now why dont some days some (which a few do) come up and watch the real thing. Insted of wearing Man u shirts etc.
nw7 yid - March 7, 2008 12:42 AM (GMT)
Sounds like a really interesting series of shows.
I'm a British-born Asian, and can happily say that I don't support Man United, Liverpool or Arsenal.

The fact that football is no longer a "working class" game and why is relevant to this forum if not SUSD.
What organisations represent non white people isn't relevant at all.

From personal experience I disagree. If I was to see a black person at a Swans match I would turn my head, seriously, it is so rare.
On the official regulars bus there are people at the back who make a lot of racist comments, nothing to bad, but not right, and I think the bus would go silent if a black person walked on, just through the shock, I've never seen it happen.
Maybe these are reasons why black people dont follow the club, but personally I dont think theres enough to warrant why they all support the big 4.

Yeah but even if you consider the problem of racism at football now to be "nothing bad", you have to remember it's not that long ago that a lot of football grounds were very hostile places for ethnic minorities, and a reputation lives on long after a problem.
Plus, I don't think the problem of racism at football has been solved to the extent some people seem to think anyway. As a Leicester fan I've definitely seen a decrease in the moronic singing about our Asian population by other fans, but it still happens. With some regularity from certain clubs. Some people on here would probably contend it's 'working class banter', and I even know a few Asian people that would agree with them. Either way though I doubt it exactly inspires a lot of the Asian community to turn up to matches.
I asked one of my mates why so many Asian people supported Liverpool. He pointed out that the heritage of supporting your local club just isn't there like it is with white people. He said his dad or grandad wouldn't have felt welcome on the terraces of their local club, so they didn't go. It was the same with many others, so with little connection with their local team, Liverpool just became the club many Asian families supported. Then when the kids today are just getting into football, they just support Liverpool because it's who their dads, uncles, older brothers etc support. It's fair enough really, I wonder how many white kids nowadays whose 'family club' is a big 4 team decide to support their local club instead?! Probably not very many either.

I agree there is no more need to have a white English organisation than Watford Asian Community care or the music of black origin awards.

Why is there a need for a special organistion for white English people in England? |
Exactly. The whole reason most of these organisations were set up in the first place is because the organisations that dealt with the population as a whole were at worst heavily instutionally racist or at best completely white run and didn't represent the ineterests of ethnic minorities.

Well its not exactly top 4 but my Dad , his Dad and My Grandads Dad were or still are Newcastle fans. Reason why I didnt follow. Its not my local team(they are all Geordies). While I who actully lived in Newcastle breifyI was born and grew up in Luton so I willl support Luton.
I dont get how people can follow a team from the other side of the country from were they come from be it family or not.
I get what you are saying though I do know loads who born in Luton but follow Arsenal etc becuase of family.
Who do you support?

Geez your argument makes no sense.
As someone said below, anyone standing has stewards shouting at them to sit and chucking them out if they don't. Loads of people get molested by the police on a matchday (being a young male is the usual qualification but race certainly isn't, from the stories my mates tell it seems to happen to them a disproportionately large amount of the time if anything.) Everyone gets penned in by coppers and marched to the ground half an hour before they actually want to go, have you ever seen them pull someone out and tell them they can make their own way because they're not white?!
The only basis I can see for your argument is that you consider football a sport for white people to support, so therefore the general problems with it affect white people but not anyone else. In which case you're a bit of prick mate.

What utter nonsense which does not deserve a repsonse but your getting one anyway.
Last I checked mr plod did not single out young white lads for special treatment at football, they just happen to be in the majority. He has though throughout recent history singled out anything but white men for special treatment.
What are these other reasons, you and others are using some pretty broad brush statements and not doing a very good job of backing them up.
