Title: Susd German Trip
Description: Dates
unibee - March 4, 2008 01:23 PM (GMT)
Following discussions about the SUSD trip to Germany, we decided to delay this until the summer. The main reasons are the lack of time left in this season, along with the disinclination for people to miss relegation deciders/cup finals etc. What we now want to do is agree on a weekend, then the planning can start in earnest.
I have looked at the dates for next season, for Division 1, Divisions 2-4 & the Bundesliga. However, after much searching I can't find the key dates. However, I am guessing the following:
COMMUNITY SHIELD: Probably 4 August (maybe 11th)
DIV 1 STARTS: Probably 10 August (or 17th if Shield on 11th)
DIV 2-4 STARTS: 10 August
BUNDESLIGA STARTS: 10 August
----
For reference, the dates in the last four years (starting with most recent) were:
CS: 5/13/7/8 Aug
D1: 11/19/13/14 Aug
D2-4: 11/5/6/7 Aug
BL: 11/12/6/7 Aug
---
This gives options of the weekends of:
Aug 11, 18, 25
Sept 1, 8, 15, 22, 29
Note that the w/e 25th August is the Bank Holiday w/e, where D2-4 clubs usually have two matches.
---
Please can you reply below as to general preferences (eg. 'August is better than September'/'Not the Bank Hol w/e'. etc.). We will then try to find the most suitable time. The format will probably be fairly flexible, but based around an organised trip to Germany to see 2/3 games and stand in peace. Possibly Sky/Setanta may come along with us.
Clearly we don't yet know next seasons fixtures (either here or in Germany), however, realistically we need to start planning well before they come out.
Cheers,
Chris

I'd say the weekend of September 15 would be best for me.

Would prefer any of the August dates because I start back at University in September.

August or the first weekend in September (school)

I think Divisions 2-4 start on the saturday 9th August.
Not really fussed when it is, hopefully we will have a home game as I don't want to miss an away day.

If possible the week before the football lge starts, so as soon as possible. I really don't want to miss aSwans game if it can be helped. So August would suit me.

Agreed.
Possibly better to arrange for later in the year as well Chris as I don't particually want to commit when I could miss an away game plus theres Uni to factor in....

Thanks for the feedback. August seems better than September.
'I think' The German season starts the same weekend as Div 2-4 so it would be hard to avoid a clash. Perhaps as Andy says it is better to arrange later in the year when we know the fixtures and can try to find a weekend when most teams have unexciting games.
How about October/November/December time - would you prefer that to August?
Utd 90210 - March 11, 2008 10:14 AM (GMT)
I can make it anytime really. Remember that the German league has a winter break if December is being thought about for the trip. Although i'm not sure of exactly when they have their break.

I too am happy with anything!
It may be sensible to arrange it about a month into the season (after the transfer window closes) in order to get more media coverage! The less things that are happening in football, the more coverage we are likely to get!

October would be good. Students (Like myself) get 2 weeks off, it gives us time to book it with a resaonable price & We will have had the fixtures published waaaaay before then, so yes all is good for October as far as I can see :D
unibee - March 11, 2008 07:49 PM (GMT)
I'd forgotten the winter break. Last season the final game was over the w/e o 15th December so this is the latest we could go. October is a good time if uni's etc have time off. Two weeks though, flippin heck!
Amanda - March 11, 2008 07:56 PM (GMT)
I'm flexible with no preference beyond mentioning that wouldn't flights be cheaper when the schools (and uni's!) aren't on holiday?
Chris, would you like me to send an email to the forums registered users about this? In fact you too have the power to do so.... :ph43r:
Cowbacon - March 12, 2008 02:23 AM (GMT)
Students get October off? Eh? Never heard of anyone get October off - I always had it straight from late September to Mid December and most places seem to do it about a week either way, though saying that most people I know do technical degrees so don't get a reading week, but two? Crazy.
unibee - March 12, 2008 08:28 AM (GMT)
Amanda, I think the easiest way is to agree dates on here then contact the members with the details.
Gunner Michael - March 12, 2008 08:53 AM (GMT)
If we're delaying until next season, I might be able to go after all. Though it's hard for me to look beyond June at the moment, so once you've set a date I'll have to look into whether I can make it - I have no real preference.
