Title: Police Even Messing Up Non League Fixture
Description: Torquay v York moved
Peter SUSD - February 29, 2008 05:24 PM (GMT)
I was all set to take my son down to Torquay for the FA Trophy semi final first leg v York on Saturday 8th.
Today the match has been changed to Friday 7th, which we cannot get to travelling from Essex.
Reasons
- police needed for Plymouth v Sheffield (even though most Torquay fixtures have no police presence & wouldn't have needed more than a handful for this one). There is never trouble at Plainmoor.
- Concern of trouble between the expected 400 York fans & Sheffield United on the journey from Yorkshire.
What an absolute farce.

Already emailed about 50 million people.
Not the first time police have trouted us over in this competition too. Our game with FARSLEY CELTIC away was moved to a Sunday afternoon because the police couldn't take care of it being on same day as Leeds Rhinos.
Giving up.
York v Exeter and York v Torquay no league games have been on a Saturday and only one of the FA Trophy games is. Pricks.

Should we start peddling an environmental argument?
All these fixture changes mean it's impossible to plan for fixtures meaning we are forced into our cars. It's a serious line of argument really, especially if the polices reasoning is totally invalid.
Labour stopped listening to the working class for valid reasons so maybe if we peddle this soppy middle class argument they're ears will prick up?

I cannot imagine that there would be many police needed for us v Sheff Utd. No more than an average game and I am sure that we have played at home on the same day as Torquay many times before.
When we went up to Torquay for a friendly pre season there were more police on Newton Abbot train station than I saw in the whole of Torquay put together.
I expect the train service is really good for York fans getting to and from Torquay on a Sunday as well.

Its not even Sunday - its Friday evening so no way York fans can go by train without staying over.
When West Ham played Plymouth and Torquay there were many more police than needed.
Our cup game at Torquay 15 - 20 years ago (can't remember now) was most over top police operation ever - for 700 West Ham who we knew wouldn't cause trouble. Even a helicopter. After the game we went for a meal in the town & were told OLd Bill had instructed restaurnats not to allow WEst Ham fans in, but they served us anyway.
