Title: Imminent Ban
Description: Any advice
BWA_Ultra - February 25, 2008 02:20 PM (GMT)
On saturday I was asked to leave the ground (for foul and abusive language) and when asked to come to the side to discuss this (about 60 minutes into the game) I refused and went towards the middle of the terrace.
Stewards have used this tactic in the past to kick a mate of mine out of the ground and for police to take his details.
I am known to the club and I am to expect to receive a letter from the club in the next few days, I believe the club can ban a person from home games, how should I go about defending myself if I am banned without a chance to defend myself.

Interesting thread there...
I would ask for a meeting with the club, take some of those with similar views to you and also perhaps ask if your Supporters Trust (or similar group) will accompany you to the meeting. Or failing that, there seem to be some sensible (and perhaps older?) fans on the forum that may like to come along with you.
You clearly need to get this sorted out and have to understand what the boundaries are.
To be honest, having read the thread my sympathies are on both sides... but it is clear you seem to have some OTT stewards there. And perhaps it is fair to say, there may be occasions when you deliberately wind them up...?!

"Foul and Abusive Language"? What's that all about?

Thanks Amanda! I am going to wait a few days for said letter.
Foul and abusive language is a few people saying trout rather than 100 or so singing salmon

Can you clarify that. I aint seen anyone told off for swearing, depending how offensive it is, is maybe a different matter. My advice is make the most of that terrace for the last few games, it will never be the same in your new ground, even if one day there is a standing area. I would give anything to turn back time and have a few more games at our old ground  so just enjoy it.

This happened at Middlesbrough with the Fulham fans that got ejected a couple of weeks ago. Many letters were written to the club, and they have responded by organising a Fans Forum one evening at Craven Cottage to specifically discuss stewarding at the ground and the treatment of fans, so it was quite a good result as this would give us a chance to put our point across.
May be a good idea for you if you had enough back up to propose a Fans Forum at Colchester regarding the issue as it may solve a few problems

Update
I have been informed by the safety officer at Colchester United that this has gone higher up in the club and that I should expect a 2-3 home match ban.
tbh I don't mind if this is next season but I really don't want to miss 2-3 of our last 6 games EVER at layer road.
It is for the offence of using foul and abusive language towards a steward but not for resisting being escorted out of the ground.
