Title: The F.a To Clamp Down On Standing?

Someone posted on the leicester forum:-

Did anybody else get a lecture from the stewards about the FA clamping down on standing?.

After the Bristol home game, the FA are going to have people in the crowd to watch for persistent standers. If anybody stands up persistently the club will be fined.

I've heard similar stories from stewards plenty of times before. Usually just trying to make a scapegoat for their actions so less people think they're a bunch of twats.

L.T.F.C - February 16, 2008 09:28 PM (GMT)
If true could it be that they are clutching at straws now.

Seriosuly stewards who the trout wants to be a steward I cant belive anyone can get up on a saturday morning and look forward to their job and go to bed that night and think to their selfs they have done something that matters. Of course there are some brilliant ones but unforentley most arent.

Do you mean when Bristol City play you away?

There are two teams in bristol sadly, i hope they dont having these at bristol city.

Its just going to cause trouble.

Every year the FLA seem to get themselves excited about one kind of clampdown or another. They won't acknowledge that the wider battle was lost a few years ago, and they'll only succeed in picking on smaller groups of fans which will win the FLA/stewards etc precisely ZERO support.

The FLA have a role to play in football, but they should be concentrating on issues other than standing. I seriously hope they read this site, although they seem so bloody arrogant and stubborn that i wonder whether they are even interested.

Not sure but it will probably be aimed against the home fans not away.

Every away team (if they choose) can stand at walkers without hassle. (or at least they have so far).

The stewards at leicester in some parts of the stadium are great even handing out sweets to fans.

When we first moved there was lots of problems with fans and stewards after various meetings things got better and tension lifted, it will be a shame if things get worse again.

Against coventry in the league cup, a steward said to my mate before the game had kicked off he was being watched by the FA.

ML - ITFC - February 17, 2008 12:59 PM (GMT)
They didn't say anything about the FA (or not that I konw of) but our stewards were much more active than normal yesterday.

purpleronnie - February 17, 2008 01:06 PM (GMT)
Looks like its true then, shame.

Don't think it will have much effect on man utd, villa, west ham, newcastle fans away from home at least.

I just find the whole thing unbelievable that so much time and effort is going into something so silly.

4 WEEKS AND COUNTING!!!!!!!!!!! (actually 3 weeks 5 days).

Cant come soon enough.

I'm actually discussing with family and friends the possibility of living in the USA for good.

ML - ITFC - February 17, 2008 02:49 PM (GMT)
The thing is, although there was more activity from the stewards the other day, it had the opposite effect and increased standing.

I trust a big fine will be coming Havant's way. After all Brian Barwick stood for most of their game against Swansea.

RobT - February 17, 2008 04:59 PM (GMT)
These are just regular scare stories. Look at Old Trafford yesterday.

Lets be honest, no-one takes the FLA seriously any more!

I'm thinking of going to the leicester game.
I'm worried of going to it as it's a modern stadium which typically comes with stricter enforcement of the sitting down rule. I don't want to pay somebody to tell me sit down when I want to stand.

purpleronnie - February 17, 2008 07:42 PM (GMT)
As I stated before away fans have no problems at leicester.

Of course they could decide thats the game they clampdown.

if all your fans decide to stand you wont have any problems.

chalky - February 17, 2008 07:46 PM (GMT)
All our fans, unfortunately, will not take the choice to stand so it will be rows from the back. I might go then if they are typically lenient with away fans, £15 for a student, ouch!
Adults pay less in top divisions of countries where it is actually enjoyable to be a supporter!

Cowbacon - February 17, 2008 10:15 PM (GMT)
Oh come on, £15 student ticket isn't great but its not that bad, its the same as most away ends (including yours!).

Pricisely my point. The attitude seems to be, "well it's no more expensive than anywhere else, or X club don't even do student tickets". It is disgusting to watch a game a football, especially considering the way we get treated!
At at mine it is £13 for a student ticket in the EE, I still feel that is too much. I know the EE can be justified to a certain extent though because I know what I'm getting. Away games could be just as good or a lot worse.

While the FA may have a view on standing, they do not enforce the regulations.

This is done from the top by the FLA, then via the leagues and then the local safety advisory groups.

Is it really that difficult for clubs to train stewards properly? Apparently so....

purpleronnie - February 18, 2008 10:41 AM (GMT)
He probably meant the FLA not the FA.

purpleronnie - February 18, 2008 04:17 PM (GMT)
Looks like its targeting the home fans not away:-

From leicester website:-

Basically, starting at the Bristol City game there will be attempts to clamp down on standing in both the Kop and L1, it won't work, especially in L1. As far as i'm aware you will recieve at least 2 warnings and if you continue to stand then you will be ejected. The FA or FLA (i wasnt really listening) are getting on the clubs back regarding standing, why our stadium seems to get more warnings then other stadiums that have more people standing i don't know. Maybe we are an easy target because we dont have a huge amoumt of standers? or maybe Kevin is making these warnings up? who knows. I heard from another steward yesterday that Kevin has been trying to implement these plans for a while now but Tim Davies had been objecting the idea.

Standupandsing - February 19, 2008 08:05 PM (GMT)
^^

That quote was from a steward as well, orders from the stadium head.

Just wondering if you went and how it went?

HOUSTON 5 DAYS AND COUNTING!!!!!

T-Man Lcfc - March 9, 2008 09:14 PM (GMT)
Standing was fine yesterday, no problems in L1 where a good 600 stood. Heard a couple of "get a proper job chants in K but they still seemed a fair few standing.
Back few rows of the kop stood, few scattered around the family stand and a few on the wings too.
It was like any other home game.

Bristol city fans were not bothered at all either. About 300 of their 3,000 chose to stand expected more tbh.

nick the jack - March 10, 2008 10:22 AM (GMT)
Speaking as a third Division fan I would say the stewarding has not been as stricct this season. I've been on the back row at every away game and have only been told to sit one, at Huddersfield. This is less than last season. So the only bad stewards in our division are Huudersfield, Swansea and Gillingham probably when we go there in a few weeks time.

Whilst in Division 1 there seems to be as much standing as ever, and Man City for example seem to have got a lot more leanient this season. So I dont see any signs of a clamp down.

LongtonLeeds - March 10, 2008 11:55 AM (GMT)
Away they will never try and never have tried to get us to sit down. At home its every week though. The closing of 4 rows in the south stand has worked a treat with it being like a morgue down there again when at the start of the season it was a stand reborn. They are always getting the kop lower to sit after about 5 minutes of the game. Luckily we have enough fans who will tell a steward where to go if he tries to get them sitting down but they all seem to be in the kop upper

When I went to Elland Road, all Swansea fans stood, and I didn't see or hear of any attempts to get people to sit, and in places it might have worked if they tried. They also seemed to just bug the Kop lower, whilst everyone else was left alone.
