The Spion Kop
My home
What a sight! I'd give anything to have that back right now.

Glorious!
Looking from the pitch, up the The Kop - the right hand post, 5 yards inside it, directly level with it. My spec. I want it back :(
And even though it's still all standing for big games, it's just not the same:

Consideri g the Kop holds 11,000 and held 17,000 o nthe last year of standing - am I right that at the New ground the new Kop will hold 18,000 !!! OK it will never be the same as the real Kop but with 7,000 more standing for big games its got to make for a better atmosphere

The big games tho aren't the problem, always a great atmosphere.
It's the leaguse games where everyone sits is when its like a library and an extra 6,000 sitting will just make the silence more deafening.
Anyway, it use to hold 26,000 standing, so even 18,000 seats will be some way short

More people does not always = better atmosphere, if it holds 18,000 it is probably going to be twice the actual size of the current Kop. What makes a good atmosphere i think is having as many like minded people in as small an area as possible.

The current Kop holds 12,500 now.
The new one will apparently hold 18,000 - but those plans are being revised as we speak, so might not be that many after all.
The old terraced Kop used to hold 28,000 in it's prime, with that figure reduced several times down the years for safety reasons. I think it held around 17,500 when deemed full in 1994 when it came down. As shown in that top picture. It was rammed then, and was the same capacity since 1987 when I first went on it. So trying to imagine what it was like having another 11,000 squeezed in there is frightening!
My old man always tells me about St.Ettienne - that no way the attendance was as given, far more got in and The Kop was as packed as he'd ever experienced.
The new ground could go either way - all depends on how the club work it, and we are speaking to them already about ways to go about it. Whether all current Kop ST holders are given similar seats, or new ST's generated, singing section made at the front etc. Plenty of time yet, but vital we get it right.
If we end up with the same old ST holders in the middle, splitting up the vocal fans, then sell all the daytripped tickets in there, I fear the worst.
I just hope that when Rick Parry stated "the stand will be more compact and steeper than the current Kop, in order to get as close to the old Kop in its heyday as possible..." that he meant the seats going in will be so cramped it'll be impossible to sit down! Fingers crossed!
Love them Chelsea pictures by the way - far better than the plastic flag waving Stamford Bridge of today.

 at that Chelsea one in the Park Lane, Tottenham.
Them were the days when the whole Park Lane was given to the away team and we looked down on em from the shelf. :ph43r:
Weren't "Three Point Lane" in them days though.... (or last season for that matter :P )
Great photo.
That one of the away end at Stamford Bridge reminded me how far you used to be from the bloody pitch there. Plus it was open. Used to have them little light blue disabled three wheel cars lined up at one end IIRC.

Not necessarily my favourite, but a good example as far as Yorks concerned in recent years.
Burton away, atmosphere was amazing, the Yorks subs bench was watching the away end more than the game. Everyone just went mad and its the type of atmosphere that could never be created in a seated section.

Milton Road end, when the "Chocolate boxes" were still standing. Mick Channon's testimonial 1976 I believe.
