Title: Freedomeof Speach..not In England!

Just read an excellent article in Wired magazine that lists the libel laws in england. And to cut a very indepth story short, shows that in england you can barely speak about anything without the risk of being sued. England apparantly has the strictest libel laws in the world. And many people who live abroad use english courts because of the strict laws increases their chances to win.

Funny really becasue I then heard an interview with the band arcade fire and they were talking about the libel laws in england compared to America.

They said in the USA pepsi can have an advert stating some other rival drink tastes like tench and thats ok but you couldn't do that in england.

Just shows you how controlling things have got, I'm sure most people think in the USA everyone is suing everyone but thats now true in England.

Don't think hes slating it. Its the simple fact that we live in a country where our lives are controlled by the government. We live in a 'nanny state' where we are not allowed to take risks even when we should ultimately be the ones that should decide. A classic example being us not being able to stand at football because the government says so and thats final. I should decide if its too risky or not to stand on a saturday, not men in suits in the houses of parliament.

Its become so bad that in winter we're stopped from having snowball fights at school because the school could be sued. They are trying to rip the fun out of being a kid, taken away some of our freedoms and choises, shunned poeple who they believe are socially unacceptable (eg. smokers).

You're not allowed to upset anyone here, you have to be politically correct.

I think it's because of the fact that Britain pretends to be this social, democratic, totally free nation when it clearly isn't. Not to mention the pure arrogance and incompetence of our leaders, the outrageous amount of tax that doesn't pay dividends to us (NHS etc.), and the fact the government seems to think it has the right to usher in new ridiculous laws that simply have no benefit to us as a nation.
