Title: Maine Road v FC United

Come and support Maine Road FC when they take on Manchester rebels FC United.

November 4th 2006. Bower Fodl, Stalybridge Celtic Home ground. 3PM Kick Off.

Come and support the blue side of Manchester in this feiry non-league derby.

I have kinda followed the fortunes of FCUM and I think I am right in saying that they encourage standing and are allowed at the all seater Gigg Lane despite the fact that when bury play at home their fans are told it is unsafe to stand. I was also told that FCUM get higher attendances than their landlords.
However really I wondered are Maine Road FC linked in any way to MCFC?

Steve - September 20, 2006 11:08 AM (GMT)
They are not linked as such - they were formed in 1955. They play in Sky Blue and their club emblem is an exact replica of Citys old one - some City fans have gone to support Maine Rd who are pissed off with the atmosphere at new ground and prices and all seater

Should be an interesting match, I think FC United will hammer Maine Road to be honest, but it's all fun in the lower leagues.

How did it go?

Steve - November 10, 2006 03:08 PM (GMT)
FC united won this 2-1. Just over 3100 turned up - thought more would to be honest - as its not Premiership hardly any coverage. Much more fun than that league though. United now won 14 of 15 league games - running away with league although hopefully Maine Rd will go up to Unibond First Div with them if they finish in top 3 and currently 3rd.

Bet the atmosphere was amazing behind the goal with all those FC United fans crammed into that terrace.

What I can't understand is the SCUM (sorry FCUM ;)) TV logo on the video - thought they were trying to get away from commercialism. Why try and ape big brother?

Fair point. On the subject of "apeing big brother" as you put it :D , the season tickets aren't exactly cheap imo, £100 odd quid, obviously peanuts compared to Man United, but when you consider what league they're in.

Still affordable for the working class though, which is the important thing I guess.

The problem we have is that we're paying a huge amount of ground-rent to Bury FC, so we have to have high prices compared to the rest of the league. However, adult prices are also slightly higher than they could be in order to maintain low prices for kids - £2 match day price and £21 for a season ticket. Worth paying a few pounds extra for if you ask me.

To be fair, I can't think of a single reason to criticise FCUM. They offer hope to every football fan, and every policy they have is one that I wish my club would adopt.

The sooner they rise the leagues the better.

I heard a rumour they are considering building their own ground. Pray this goes ahead as I know they would build massive covered terracing.

Thats the plan but we have a bit to go before we get there. The board is being quite ambitious and saying in the next five years but that is dependant on us continuing to grow as we are. As mentioned part of the problem is we are paying huge rent at bury and that is sucking our proffits up. Would be brilliant if it did all work out. :D

If i was from manchester i would support fc united. it would be great if fans of other clubs all did this. no commercialism just small terraced grounds with real fans supporting their town, their club, their traditions. weve already got AFC wimbledon, FC United, imagine if chelsea, west ham and liverpool got in too. although i cant see it

Wont be long before West Ham and Liverpool have one.
Non-league football is the future. ;)
