I know most on here won't know too much about Major League Soccer but the expansion of teams in the league has gone to San Jose. And already the fans are organized and the club are helping them.

Plans are underway for designated supporters' group areas for the Casbah and for 1906/Ultras. Details are being worked out, but the idea is that the sections will be clearly designated, with the particular expectations for the groups (for example, they stand instead of sit) specified in the ticket marketing materials. Fans will be able to self-select whether they want to participate in the supporters' groups sections.

This is very common in the US some clubs are more supportive than others but most have supporter sections (some have 2 or 3) in the ground where fans can stand, wave flags and pretty much do what they want away from fans who just want to sit down.

Moreover in Toronto and Chicago the pressure from supporter groups made the club remove certain advertising so they had more space for their banners....Imagine that lol.

Hard to believe the situation over there, its the way football is supposed to be. Fans in the designated areas are actually expected to stand rather than sit. Sums up the feeling over there, they know that they need supporters compared to over here where we are just treated as cashcows.

I should add that Colorado fans are having a hard time of it from their security people, and guess who heads this security team, some geezers from Arsenal.

I had to laugh.

It is undoubtedly better to be a football fan in the US rather than here at the moment, but I don't think we should hold MLS up as a fantastic example of the way football should be run. Remember that San Jose are not a new team, they are actually being reformed following being shut down 2 years ago. MLS also has closed two florida teams in the past, with no regard for fans.

There are some good fan areas though; particularly at Chicago, DC United, Chivas, Houston and Toronto. When I saw a game in Columbus though the atmosphere was poor and there PA announcer kept playing music, making announcements etc throughout the game...be careful what you wish for!

Bear in mind at the relative freshness of the MLS within the US. Give it some time and it could turn out to be just like here.

I doubt things will ever be as bad as they are over here. The standing issue has never been a problem in American sports people have always stood without any problems.
