There was also flares, smoke bombs, and all the Chivas supporters held balloons and bounced up and down all the time.

The commentaters showed more of the fans than the match lol, they were loving it.

And I should add......thousands stood all game!!!!!!!!!!!!

It really is depressing that Americans have surpassed us with their fan culture.

Is there ever any racial chanting or anything? as I know the vast majority of Chivas fans are mexicans, and what with all the controversy around the amnesty bill over there.

From what I've seen and read it seems like there's a bit of racial tention between whites and hispanics, especially in California.

As far as fans go, I would say the Toronto fans are the best. I saw one of their games on 5 US, and couldn't believe I was watching an MLS match.

Oh, and I hope they have a H&S certificate for that surfer flag ;)

There is tension, but imagine millions and millions of immigrants streaming into england...that would cause some tension. The fact is there are estimates of around 12-20 million ILLEGAL immigrants in the US all ready, when you count the millions already here legally its not suprising that the white population are being out numbered in some states. The bill also would make an estimated 60 million more immigrants US citizens in the next 20 years...astonishing figures and the US can't cope (in my opinion) with those numbers.

I thought they were suppose to be tighting border control but this bill seems to have opposite effect.

These will be mostly unskilled workers which is already having a massive burden on the working population. Add to this the massive problem of gangs over here it may well cause almost a civil war on some american streets...its not far off that now.

Back to the football (or soccer).

There are lots of mexican fans over here, especially chivas who are a mexican side playing in the MLS - shows how many mexicans live in LA.

Toronto fans are amazing they are extremely passionate and have an ultra mentality of chanting 90 minutes whether they are winning or not, very colouful and throw hundreds of streamers every game (usually at the opposition lol).

Evey supporters group I've seen (and all clubs have at least one) stand every game.

Toronto have this amazing song where they sing from one side of the stand to the other then they all sing together bouncing up and down its really a great sight.

Yes I agree its sad that the US fans have overtaken the english but you have to understand here in the US the fans are actively encouraged to be colouful and noisy...and yes to stand, its the total opposite in england so its so hard to get anything going in england.

Also there is a ultra scene over here with fans making noise, drumming, waving flags, letting off smoke bombs.......Fans in england don't like that or at least the majority don't its a different mentality, most fans in england just want to sit and watch the game, fans in the US want to sing and encourage there team rather than be entertained.

But hopefully things will change.

my god that surfer is nearly as big as the argentinian ones.

Yeah it looked amazing on tele, the cameras panned round to watch it, it was actually used during the match....the yank commentator said it looked beautiful, the irish one said how can they see underneath that...clash of cultures.

Never thought it but sometimes wish I had been born in the US or Germany. The UK is slowly becoming the most communist state in the world - With the most boring , passive, living dead population its possible to have every law is passed without a wimper from a robotic nation just happy to accept every tax and law laid down from our communist leadrers who lie and cover up everything which goes tits up - which is almost everything.
Anyway grumble over - if I was to go to a MLS game do you have to buy tickets in advance for most games - and what are the average crowds for most teams ?

purpleronnie - September 19, 2007 02:13 PM (GMT)
I get my tickets from the online website for Houston Dynamo, I believe most have similar websites, its usually linked with ticketmaster. I don't know if you can buy tickets on the day I would assume you can.

My tickets cost $18.00 - about 9 quid...not bad eh?

The average crowd for the MLS last season was 15,500. But teams like chicago, DC United & Toronto get 20,000+ per week.

Most have supporters groups behind the goals, this is where I stand, its the best for atmosphere and you can stand (if you wish).

I have been to games at chicago and Houston - the 12 games I've been to, I have never been told to sit down. I have witnessed smoke bombs being let off, goalkeepers being pelted with streamers (every game lol) and I have never seen any security do a thing...its great.

I would definately recommend, DC or Toronto, Chicago was pretty good too.

I'm going back to England in a couple of weeks.....boooooooooo!!!

But hopefully I'll be back here next year...Yessssssss!!!!!

p.s I agree with everything you said Steve, and it really hits home how bad things are in britain when you spend along time away from it, the things we accept in england wouldn't be accepted here in the US or anywhere else. Its a real pity.

Communism doesnt come into this at all.

yeah steve - wtf are you on about? that somment didn't even make sense!

purpleronnie - September 20, 2007 09:59 AM (GMT)
I'm sure he didn't mean britain is a communist state just commenting on how the government are having an increasing amounts of control in every aspect in our lives.

I think he meant the totalitarian/police state that Soviet Russia was. We've got a long way to go before it gets that bad, don't worry.

I don't really think that Britain will ever get to the stage that the NKVD (secret police) will knock on someone's door without warning and for no reason, and make them disappear.

Just a side note on the LA derby. There has been stories reporting major crowd trouble, flares being thrown along with bottles, fans fighting before and after the match.

The MLS really has to sort out security at games especially during big games, the lack of rules is brilliant but you have to keep fans seperate.

There are now talks about no away fans being allowed in.

Would be a shame.

FOR F.UCKS F.UCKING SAKE!!

EVERYTIME I SEE PICTURES LIKE THIS IT REALLY PISSES ME OFF, THAT WE ARE THE ONLY COUNTRY THAT HAS SUCH NIMBY RULES, WHICH MEANS WE CANT EVEN CELEBRATE ENTHUSIASTICALLY WITHOUT EXPECTING A TUG FROM ONE OF THE GROWING NUMBERS OF BASTARD STEWARDS IN THE GROUND.

MAKES MY BLOOD BOIL.

bloody hell, sounds like the US has taken notes through England 1900-1992 and speeded up the process.

What I mean is that it seems we are being controlled. To an extent forced into sitting and politely clapping - if you are found in a ground singing or standing you can be chucked out - it feels like a dictatorship at some grounds ie Riverside and the Nazi stewards take you out when you step out of line (as small as standing to let someone pass) Thats what I meant just to clear thing sup.

It might as well be communist. I know a lot of people on here may disagree with me on this one but they way that the current labour governmetn are taking more money off the rich and giving in to the poorer people through benefits is clearly communism imo.

Nothing to do with Football in that comment.

Having a welfare and benefit system isn't communist. Taking all the money off the rich people and sharing it out among the people, nationalising industry and making everything government controlled, that would be communist. Granted Labour leans a little bit to the socialist left, but that's only because of their roots. Nowadays they're hardly any different from the conservatives, i.e the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer.
