Title: Who Do You Follow Where Are You From?
born-2-boing - September 11, 2007 03:58 PM (GMT)
I'm a West Brom fan and I'm from Great Barr in Birmingham
started this thread as I'm interested to see how far some people travel just for a home game......

Blackcountry Villa - September 11, 2007 04:21 PM (GMT)
I support Villa and i'm from Wednesbury in the Black Country, surrounded by Fizzy Pop league fans. So i travel about 10 miles from my house to Villa
Stoned_Prof - September 11, 2007 04:28 PM (GMT)
I have always lived in Maidstone, Kent and support Maidstone United, who currently play 12 miles away in Sittingbourne, but are trying to return home.
Seb - September 11, 2007 04:37 PM (GMT)
I live in Fulham and support Chelsea. That wouldn't be very far in it's own right but on top of that the flat is about 10 minutes from the ground. It blocks out my TV signal
ML - ITFC - September 11, 2007 05:44 PM (GMT)
I support Ipswich Town.
Live in the market town of Sudbury, Suffolk about 20 miles (about 30 - 40 mins) from Ipswich. I am surrounded by Town fans, the occasional Wet Spammer and Spurs fans, and sad to say a bunch of plastic Man U and Chelsea suppoters.
Tend to go by car as public transport in rural Suffolk is bad.
Standupandsing - September 11, 2007 07:11 PM (GMT)
Support Leicester City & I'm from a large Town called Coalville in North West Leicestershire.
1 Hour bus jounrney (20 Mins in car  )
Mainly city fans around as well as your plastics & a few rare f*rest fans as well.
AFC#1 - September 11, 2007 07:13 PM (GMT)
I support Aberdeen and that's where i'm from/live. Local team and all that jazz, the way it should be.
ben_afcb - September 11, 2007 07:36 PM (GMT)
Support Bournemouth, but I am from Chiswick in London. Should really support QPR. :D
mancred - September 11, 2007 07:46 PM (GMT)
I'm from manchester, I now live in the salford area and I can see OT from the upstairs window.
But there are no mancunian united fans so I must be lying.
hibs1875 - September 11, 2007 07:50 PM (GMT)
Stay in Edinburgh 'bout 10 mins away from the Holy Ground (In one of the worst areas in Edinburgh I may add.)

not very.
red_rose - September 11, 2007 08:28 PM (GMT)
Near enough from Blackburn, about 15 minute away from Ewood. Proud to support the local team, don't see the point of supporting a team miles away with you having no connection to the club or area.
marvin - September 11, 2007 08:34 PM (GMT)
I support united so i'm clearly from the moon <_<
ffarlz - September 11, 2007 08:41 PM (GMT)
I travel from cannock staffs to villa park for home games. A good half hour drive

Thats about the same for me, an half hour drive. However i get the bus and train to games so i can drink which takes me over an hour to get to VP.
Walsall are the team closest to me but my dad has been a Villa fan since he was a kid, his dad never took him to football so he went to all the local team's grounds with his mates and he said when they all went to Villa it was something different, the players, the crowd, the atmosphere and they were all hooked, and my dad took me to Villa with him from an early age so theres why i support Villa and not Walsall. And i know Villa aren't the best but thank fcuk my dad and his mates weren't impressed when they went to Walsall, Albion, Wolves and Blues! :D

I have nothing against fans that support teams that are along way away. IF they actaully go to the games like you do!
ST Holder & Away games and shiz...
Hodgson - September 11, 2007 10:34 PM (GMT)
United fan from Bedfordshire. Been at uni in huddersfield though for the last couple of years, got one more year left. Have no idea where i'll be based after that though.
From my parents takes either 1 hr 40 on the train, or a couple of hours or so if I get a lift up in the car. From huddersfield takes just over half an hour on the train.
turin99 - September 11, 2007 11:12 PM (GMT)
Manchester United supporter. Born Manchester but live in Stockport.
BHB - September 12, 2007 07:51 AM (GMT)
What gets me, there are people on here that live half an hour away from their club, but are still classed as local. It's their local club.
With Liverpool, if you live east of Huyton, so anywhere more than 5 or 6 miles from the City Centre, you're not classed as local.
It takes somebody no more than 10 minutes to get to Anfield from Widnes for example, yet they're known as woolybacks. They're 10 minutes away and might as well be from another planet. Completely different accent as well. They sound like mancs.
I now live in Manchester through work, but can get to Anfield in 20-25 minutes. Quicker than a lot of you can get to your home games, yet I live in a completely different city now. Madness.
Steve - September 12, 2007 09:03 AM (GMT)
Wycombe fan and live in High Wycombe - takes 15 mins to drive to ground. Only takes 10 more minutes to drive to Watford from where I live but unfortunaltey I drew the short straw
Longhurst JR - September 12, 2007 09:38 AM (GMT)
From Skipton, market town and "the gateway to the dales". Local clubs Burnley, Bradford and Leeds in that order. Takes me about 2 hours to get to the ground on train, bit shorter driving depending on time of day. Usually get the train though. Season ticket holder. City passed down from my Dad who is from a village north of York.
JCIB - September 12, 2007 09:50 AM (GMT)
Support United, I was born in Wythenshawe, then moved to Warrington, then me Dad moved us south, but now i'm back near Manchester again. Could walk to the ground from Salford last year, but now got to get the tram from Alty.
nick the jack - September 12, 2007 10:30 AM (GMT)
Born in Swansea, lived in swansea all my life, 15 mins walk to our old ground, 40 mins walk to our new ground. As much as the standing debate frustrates me. I am and always will be a Jack, you build up a bond with the City and the people. It is an isolated City (1 hour from Cardiff) so there is no choice to be made. Simply support Swansea, or anyone else and your a plastic fan.
yorkiebarkid - September 12, 2007 11:34 AM (GMT)
This term "Plastic Fan" that always gets used in these self justification threads. Where does it come from and whats the meaning behind it.
I just don't get it I mean whats wrong with plastic? What's the link between Polypropylene and OOT support?
Always been a mystery to me
Blackcountry Villa - September 12, 2007 11:40 AM (GMT)
If you live miles away from the team you support and you support them because your dad does or if you actually go to games then thats fair enough, but i can't stand these fans who just pick say Man Utd or Chelsea because they win despite living at the other end of the country. Then they slag you off and try and take the p!ss because you support a local team who aren't as good as them despite them not even knowing how to get to their team's ground.
ultras - September 12, 2007 11:45 AM (GMT)
support united, born and raised in manchester, live about 5 or 6 miles from old trafford
jm26 - September 12, 2007 12:01 PM (GMT)
I'm a United fan that lives in London, soon to be Birmingham for 3 years.
So I fit the stereotype. I'm only 18 and have supported United for as long as I can remember. My Mum says I was brainwashed by my cousin from practically day one. I've been to very few games simply due to cost/ticket avialability and i'm sometimes embarassed when I see fans on this board who go week in, week out. But I do envision a time where i'm one of you lot, hopefully sooner rather than later.
However, I know that I have a passion for and love my club, and if i'm still around in 60-odd years I know i'll still be a United fan.
I had a dream/nightmare last night where the Glazer's sacked Fergie, and appointed Queiroz as Manager. I've had dreams where I've fallen off cliffs before, but I don't think i've ever been as relieved as when I woke up today.
M view is I don't care where you come from, as long as you've had a club from young, and you stick with them, never abandoning or changing your allegiance.
I probably go down in some people's estimations further with the fact that I'm a regular attendee at Barnet FC. For me the club's our miles apart, and it was just a freak when there was the carling cup game the other year (I wanted United to win, and thank f*ck we did given it was our only trophy that year) and I'm happy that I help out my local club. I love football so need to get my fix from somewhere. It just happened that I stumbled accross a great club, who had a magnetic quality that I couldn't resist.
born-2-boing - September 12, 2007 12:05 PM (GMT)
I didn't start the thread for a mass row over OOT and plastic fans, I just wondered how far people live away from the team they support basically I'm working in Coventry and I've found a Hartlepool supporters club down fere which although strange is admirable.
I lived in Minehead for the first season we were in the premiership and travelled half the country to most games but that doesn't make me any more of a fan than Manc red who lives on his doorstep and goes or the other manc who lives in ireland somewhere ....
We're all real fans that's why we're here.
I heard the term plastic fan has a relation to plastic surgery i.e if a part of your body is modified with surgery it isn't real is it not 100% anyway so that's why man utd fans chelsea fans etc get called plastic for living miles away and supporting man utd however it happens local too- when we were in the prem people were walking round all the time in albion stuff and we sold out almost every week same as villa really, guaranteed to sell out for a few weeks at the mo as they beat inter and chelsea but as last year when they start playing poor it's only the season ticket holders left. thats not a pop at villa either just an example
AFC#1 - September 12, 2007 12:08 PM (GMT)
Well I'm of the opinion that you should support your local team, but that's my opinion.

Bit wide of the mark to say 'Only the season ticket holders left', when we were playing poorly last year we got over 40,000 against West Ham who were 1 from botoom and 38,000 against Watford who were bottom and our average for the season was still 36,500 which was around the same as Everton who qualified for Europe. During our 19 match winless run we also took 5500 away to Fulham and continued to sell out away from home, hardly plastic

Your opinion is shared by many but support through thick and thin not through good times only.....
we average 18000 a week in championship but averaged 26000 in the premiership so where have they gone??
thats my point

I did say I wasn't having a pop, my mates all went to watford and west ham and in their words the games were hand picked so they could watch the villa win for once... not loyal i know but highlights my point a little and yes a good average attendance there
PLEASE stop being so awkward dude I'm not having a pop at villa i'm really not
