This is what i love about ciddy - just when you think they can't surprise you with something even more laughable than last time...
Quiz question of the future:
Who were the only team to be owned by someone who'd been deposed in a military coup?
Thai curry with a bit of swede - watch 'em go.

Another club goes to a no mark multi millionaire who has up until now no interest in Citeh and was only last year trying to by the scousers.
Who betting he passes the FA's "take us all out for a slap up dinner me old mucker test" I bet alot.
And where are the fans complaining about this dodgy money? Same goes for the scouse and West Ham your never going to convince me people actually think these people are good for their club?
Another nail in the coffin
Poor old citteehhhhh

Gotta feel for City fans and I mean the real City fans. Moved to a souless bowl - crowds going down steadily, scored the fewest goals ever in the Premiership last year and looks like a Swedish passionless muppet is gonna be manager. In the old days they relied on the wit and passion of the crowd but now att he new place that has disappeared and have implemented draconian stewarding - everything thats wrong with football :(

I would be very worried if i was a City fan, this Thai bloke seems very dodgy and i think he'll only be in it for himself. I'm glad we've got Lerner, he's not in it as a business venture, he has the club's interests at heart and is on the fan's wavelength.
Sven will be next season's Ronaldo and will get stick at every ground.
I saw a picture on sky sports news of the Thai bloke holding up a Man Utd shirt alongside Ferguson on their pre season tour last year, i bet the City fans are pleased about that!

Not in it for a business venture!
He has no knowledge of the game
Until he bought you didn't know nor care about your history
He's a business man who has come in and bought an assest, for tax dodgying, profit or whatever.
Don't ever believe people like this have YOUR interests at heart. They never have and never will.
It's a sorry state of affairs.

Articles in both the Sunday Times and Mail on Sunday regarding Shinawatra's human rights record. Amnesty have a lot to say about the man and so should the FA...
If what Amnesty say is true - and why wouldn't it be - it would be difficult to deem this man a fit and proper person.

the fit and proper person thing mentions lots of offences however being deposed in a military coup and human rights violations aren't on there
the essential thing seems to be the fact that he's yet to be convicted of anything. you only fail the fit and proper person test if you've been convicted of any of the offences on the list - NOT if you've only been accused / suspected

Interested to see so many reds taking a keen interest in our affairs. Obsessed? Nah, course not! ;)
Yeah, I'm concerned about this guy, seems like a typical smooth-talking politician where all is definitely not as it seems. He's carried out a very convincing charm offensive and talks a good game.
Given City's situation it's a tough choice – yes, we desparately need the investment to compete with the big boys and would obviously welcome it. All these allegations against him are just that at the moment, allegations and there's no way he would be given a fair trial in Thailand with the current military dictatorship. Yet there seems to be a fair amount of “evidence” stacking up – Amnesty aren't prone to making things up.
The FA's “fit and proper” test is an interesting one, given the way they appear to be conducting their affairs particularly of late - pots and kettles spring to mind – although to my knowledge they've not been accused of human rights abuses.
Probably more still to come in the never ending soap opera of MCFC.

If the Amnesty reports are true, then this man has blood on his hands...
I'm not a lover of takeovers, I don't welcome ours at West Ham and would have welcomed it even less had similar reports been circulating.
So, will Man City fans turn a blind eye or will this be the ultimate in selling souls to the devil....?
cityman - June 24, 2007 09:10 PM (GMT)
I think that City fans are the same as any other set of fans would be in this situation. Some won't be aware of his history. Some will be, but will say that a man is innocent until proven guilty. Others might think he is guilty but won't lose too much sleep over anything he might have done in the past if significant investment comes to the club. Some will be genuinely shocked that we can let an (alleged) human rights violator take over the club. Yet others will say, what can we do about this takeover anyway?
As fans we're more or less powerless – the vast majority aren't shareholders. The existing Board has already committed to selling the majority of the club's shares as part of Shinawatra's offer for the club. The only major shareholder that hasn't yet done so is Sky, though they are expected to follow the Board's lead. This will given Shinawatra close to the 75% needed for him to take control. From then on, no doubt he'll try to scoop up the remaining shares, and once he's got to 90% the remaining shareholders are obliged to sell up.
As things stand at present, and unless the situation becomes clearer, I can't see mass demonstrations by City fans against him.

every ciddy fan i've seen interviewed on SSN has bascially said something along the lines of, "as long as he's bringing some money in it can only be a good thing - we'll be back on top before you know it, etc"
they never learn

I didn't say that though did i. I said i'm glad we've got Lerner, which i am when you compare him to other people taking over other clubs. Man City are getting a Thai bloke who is dodgy and has been on t.v. nearly every day since he took over, a random bloke from the far east wants Blues, West Ham got Gollum who is deluded and thinks West Ham are a huge club who should be able to buy anyone.
Like i said Lerner isn't in it for himself, since he took over he hasn't appeared on t.v. once, he doesn't like any limelight he says it's all about the club not him whereas as i said Man City's Thai bloke has been on t.v. every day and clearly loves the publicity for himself. We had years of nothing under Ellis so when a new chairman comes in promises to spend money, hands out 40,000 free scarves, gives us free coaches to Chelsea, invites the European Cup winning side back to VP, is planning on putting statues up around the ground to commemorate the European cup win as he feels it's been hidden away for to long because Ellis was jealous he wasn't at the club when we won it, has refurbished the Holte Hotel pub for matchdays, forgive us for liking having him at the club
