Title: My Aachen Photos
unibee - April 21, 2007 10:34 PM (GMT)
http://www.eurofootballtour.blogspot.com/Following my trip to Aachen last month, I've finally got around to putting up the pictures. A ground that's a bit like Craven Cottage or Brisbane Road years ago.

Nice pictures and story m8. Good weekend?
How much was the coach across BTW?
unibee - April 22, 2007 06:01 PM (GMT)
The bus was £36 return. Though we paid about Eur 40 each to get from Eindhoven to Aachen and back on the train. The London-Eindhoven fares have now gone up to £48, although the bus carries on to Amsterdam where the return is only £37 !?
There are also convinient overnight Eurolines buses from London to Heerlen (southern Netherlands, not far from Aachen) and Brussels/Liege. Via Eurostar, trains can also get you from London to Germany in 4.5 hours and then of course there are the planes.
Should Barnet move into an all-seater stadium in the future I haven't ruled out the idea of getting a season ticket at Alemannia.
hibs1875 - April 22, 2007 06:06 PM (GMT)
37 quid!! Not bad. It's 65 return from Edinburgh and 25 hours to Amsterdam, i'm not ruling a trip out though (although for an extra 40 quid i could probably get flights.)

Sounds good, I'm going to Germany to visit relatives this year.
Praying it's in the football season as it's not far from Aachen really.

When abouts are you going? The Bundesliga 1/2 runs until 19th May, the Oberliga (non-league equivalent) goes on a couple of weeks past that. There are one or two interesting looking grounds further down the leagues, KFC Uerdingen is one I'd quite like to do at some point:
http://www.worldstadiums.com/stadium_pictu...rotenburg.shtmlBundesliga kicks off again on 11th August, I think.
Standupandsing - April 24, 2007 09:27 AM (GMT)
Not sure when I'm going - Hopefully after 11th August! Get some nice weather in as well :D
Whereabouts did you find the travel to Germany?

I travelled with Eurolines, website at:
http://www.nationalexpress.com/eurolines/home/hp.cfmThey run overnight coach services from London to Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris and a few other places. Heerlen and Eindhoven are useful destinations for going to Germany, you can get trains on from these places. There are direct buses to Germany, but they are quite a bit more expensive so it can be cheaper to hop off in Holland and get a train on from there. You can also do open jaw tickets, going to one place and returning from another.
https://eurobusexpress.co.ukThis is another company, which seems cheaper, although recently they announced they were stopping services until further notice so I'm not sure about their reliability.
By train, Eurostar (www.eurostar.com) have special book in advance £59 rtn tickets (£49 if under 26) from London to anywhere in Belgium. This is a particularly good option especially if you're going to Aachen, where 'anywhere in Belgium' almost gets you there.

Heya Unibee

5th of May? Is that the fixed date? That's pretty soon, never read anything on a Dortmund website about that so far . . .

I saw a msg that you were looking fwd to it a week ago but nothing else. I enjoyed our visit last season and we took a fair few - can create a good atmosphere on the East Terrace.

Hi Simme
Thanks for that.
It was the Barnet v Wycombe game on 5 May. However I still beleive we are attempting a friendly at Dortmund (if you remember your ex player Paul Lambert) he is our manager now so that is why Wycombe are looking at a pre season trip to Germany.

I'd sent you a message through the internal SUSD email system (if you look in the top right of your screen you should see your inbox) but obviously it didn't work. Just asking if you wanted to meet up for a drink before the game.
The ground configuration has changed this season so you'll be up at the top end of the East Terrace. If you bring enough you might also get the Clock End (as I call it, it's the North Terrace to everyone else) but definitely go in the ET. Usual away fans pub is the Red Lion two minutes from the away turnstiles, and pretty good it is too. My favourite though is the Mitre just up the hill from High Barnet station, they do a good range of real ales in there.

Steve, Chris if you ever decide to go to another game in Germany let me know as a couple of us would love to go & it would be great to go with some like minded fans :D
Aachen looking at the drop after getting thumped this weekend. Frankfurt also struggling :(
NihilBaxter - April 30, 2007 08:55 AM (GMT)
Next Saturday it's do or die. Frankfurt vs. Aachen, 15th against 16th. It's definitely the most significant game of the season between the two weakest teams at the moment. Promising prospects for a good game actually. :D
The chances of getting standing tickets for either Aachen or especially Frankfurt next season will largely depend on the result of this game.

An SUSD trip to Germany? Certainly something to think about.
Yes, Frankfurt-Aachen on Saturday. I am a bit nervous going into this one. Defeat for Aachen and it looks bleak. That said Aachen play Wolfsburg the following week in a 16v14 game.
Monchengladbach were relegated at the weekend and that's looks a decent ground, perhaps it will make getting tickets there a bit easier because I checked in January time and all the standing tickets were gone, for the rest of the season!

There aren't many people like us left around any more. We are a dying breed of person and if we united under one belt such as SUSD then the power we could hold would be much greater.
I think you only have to look at France, Italy to see that people power works (And I'm not just talking about football side of things) IN England we seem to have no sence of working together.
A bit off topic there  But I think it would be quality to go over for a game next year. Thanks for your information on the coaches. How much did you pay to get to Aachen?
I found a flight to Frankfurt for Under a Hundred bob so not bad considering the coach is 200!

My match ticket was Eur 11.30, so about £7.50, and that includes the bus to an from the ground. Bus tickets from London work out about £55, including a short train ride the other end. Though I think it's best to go for a weekend and take in two or three games, because hotels are not expensive, and it spreads the costs of travel a bit.

Does the 2nd Bundesliga (Div 2) play on the sunday then?
What other teams are in the area of Aachen that would make of an itresting visit?
simme - May 1, 2007 09:58 PM (GMT)
Yes, Sunday is also a match-day in the 2nd bundesliga.
The normal football-weekend is this way:
Friday 18:00 - 3x 2nd Bundesliga
Friday 20:30 - 1x 1st Bundesliga
Saturday 15:30 6x 1st Bundeliga
Sunday 14:00 - 5x 2nd Bundesliga
Sunday 17:00 - 2x 1st Bundesliga
Monday 20:15 - 1x 2nd Bundesliga
Interesting teams and grounds near Aachen? Cologne(<60km away) and Mönchengladbach(<50km away). The Ruhr-area-clubs aren't that far away, too. Slightly above 100km to Bochum, Schalke and Dortmund.

http://www.worldstadiums.com/europe/countr...westfalen.shtmlThis is a good link to the grounds of Nordrehin_Westphalia, which is the region of Germany next to Belgium & Holland which contains Aachen, Dortmund and many other clubs. Longest trip in the region would be about 3.5 hours from Aachen to Bielefeld, but most are far less than that. Travel around if you have a group is also very good value, so all in all you can easily make a good weekender with two or three games.

Cheers mate, big help. I'm certain that i'll go to either Aachen or frankfurt next season now.

If you fancy seeing a game in Germany its pretty easy and quite cheap. Try the ferry to Amsterdam then the ICE train to Dortmund, Cologne, etc. if you book the train online in advance with DB it is about 35 quid return they send your tickets to England in about two or three days. Alternatively fly from Stansted with Ryanair to Hamburg for a mere pence. They're not doing too well at the moment mind, they still will be around in the Bundersliga next season but prob without van der Vaart and Sorin but there bound to splash the cash on some big names. You might have trouble fining standing tickets.
