Title: Looking for 'Derek'

rhallas - February 22, 2008 02:48 PM (GMT)
I very much enjoyed reading members' reflections on Isaac Julien's DEREK. Unfortunately, as I am based in the US, I have not been able to see the film yet and heard about the More4 broadcast too late to ask my family in the UK to tape it for me.

Would any members be able (and willing) to send me a copy if they happened to record it from More4? I have heard that the film was picked up for US distribution and will be shown at MOMA in NYC, but I fear that it will be too late for me include discussion of the film in the book I am currently completing on queer AIDS media (I have a chapter devoted to BLUE). I must submit the final version of book manuscript to the publisher by May 1.

I can view VHS PAL (UK standard) or any DVD format. In appreciation of this good deed, I would be happy to compensate for any tape/DVD and shipping costs as well as send a copy of the completed book on its publication. Please email me if you can assist...

Thanks!

Hi - I emailed the production company as I live is Australia about DVDs - and this is the email I got

Dear Jon, we are in the process of producing some 'Derek' DVDs for the Derek Jarman: Brutal Beauty exhibition at the Serpentine. They should be available in the next two week, but you can place an advance order from the Serpentine http://www.serpentinegallery.org/2007/04/d...d_by_isaac.html

I believe the film will also be shown at the Sydney film festival.

All best
Molly

Nothing on there yet (or that I can find) - but at least we know that is definately coming out

Hi Roger

I visited Brutal Beauty, the Derek Jarman exhibition yesterday at the Serpentine Gallery. The exhibition catalogue features a chapter on Derek Jarman by Isaac Julien and also features Tilda Swinton’s letter to Derek which she narrates during the course of Isaac’s film ‘Derek’.

I noted that Isaac J. is listed as a Trustee of the Serpentine Gallery and it may be possible for you to establish contact with him via the gallery with reference to your new publication. Good luck!

In the meantime the following links may be of interest to you if you haven’t already got them!
