Title: Dragon / Dml Kits - Are They Worth It?
SAC33 - October 30, 2009 02:15 AM (GMT)
Have a look at this comment from Perth Military ... no wonder this site has "taken off" Dragon's releases and reviews... see this and be the judge for yourself when you buy your next DML kit ...
http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/newkitnews/dragon.htmAlthough they may produce some good kits but seems like something is a lacking or is it?
Blackheart - October 30, 2009 02:44 AM (GMT)
" This has absolutely nothing to do with their kits, but is entirely due to their corporate behaviour. It’s not only the personal attacks on me but the appalling disrespect this company shows through its spokesperson for other companies and individuals in the industry. They don’t have the common courtesy to even use a company or persons real name but have to come with some insulting nickname.
Yet these attacks on me and others continues, therefore I will no longer be giving this company any free publicity of it’s products as they obviously don’t appreciate this or it seems even want it."--part of announcement
what the tuttttttt..isk

Reviews have not been not 'taken off'. TA clearly mentions that they will continue as and when time permits.
SAC33 - October 30, 2009 03:54 AM (GMT)
oops sorry bout that but still "when time permits" ... when? :P

Million rupee question ^_^

This is also a hot topic at track link......
Dragon is making a lot of enemies out there but still a lot of fans are loyal....
I am one of the Dragon chasers.....No disrespect for Terry who is doing a really good job in PMMS. Sometimes, its just down to approach.... Dragon was likely rubbed the wrong way in the often "frank", non "face saving" comments by a lot of our friends with western upbringing.
SAC33 - October 30, 2009 05:49 AM (GMT)
well ... DML kits are generally great but their prices have also been exponentially increasing as well with each "retooled" kit release, starting from mere RM 50 reaching RM 150 on average for an average "smart kit" now , oouch !!! ...
anyway, not all manufacturer would produce product winners ... Tamiya/Hase/Trumpy have their fair share of misses despite leading this industry ... perhaps DML should look on the bright side of all these critical comments ... then again perhaps not ?!
PoohBear - October 30, 2009 06:36 AM (GMT)
Try looking up the forum mentioned by TA...
SAC33 - October 30, 2009 08:35 AM (GMT)
strange ... no discussions nor forum ???!!!! vhatz harppen?

Purely for interest purposes, Google'ng MDFC comes up with
http://dmlforum.com/dmlforum/index.phpwhich may or may not be the right one though. Maybe a deeper 'search' would enable you to unravel it all.

something interesting to read here if you are into digging for more...
Some history with Terry Ashley
ari - October 30, 2009 06:56 PM (GMT)
it doesnt matter if that forum stop doing reviews for DML...some other forums im sure will continue doing it.
no big deal
Loo CK - October 31, 2009 02:45 AM (GMT)
the plot thickens as the author of the flame site puts Terry in a very strange position. Dragon bashing may only be a cover up......
moJimbo - October 31, 2009 11:50 AM (GMT)
i have always liked TA's PMMS website and its reviews.... and it's sad (and dumb) for some people to attack him personally on the web.
another thing: i liked dml kits, but with their prices keep going up, i'll have to look for cheaper (and sometimes better) alternatives in afvclub or trumpeter kits..... your loss DML!
Alpha7 - October 31, 2009 01:45 PM (GMT)
I'm at a loss as to how this issue blew up. Perhaps TA's a little bit of a rivet counter and points out the slightest of inaccuracies but overall his reviews are fair and detailed.
The issue with DML started a couple of years back when the blogger by the name of Hiroshi started attacking him on the DML forum. I can't see where this is coming from because if you read TA's
reviews of DML kits, he does highly recommend them.
As for the guys responsible for the flame site, they are just upset about his
review of their DVD-ROM product. Again I can't understand why these guys can't accept his criticism. Furthermore, this happened 2 years ago and these guys are still going on about it. Those 2 years would have been better spend improving their product.
Loo CK - October 31, 2009 03:55 PM (GMT)
Alpha7,
the Flame author has a point if you read the timeline. In a nutshell,
1) he said Terry was not honest to him in the manner of the posting of the review because it wasn't Terry's review but rather someone else who has an axe to grind with his co-DVD producer
2) he further suggest that the DML bashing was only a cover up so that the truth about his DVD review will not surface as it will expose Terry as a dishonourable liar.
3) he also suggest that Terry will not dare cross swords with DML as the PMMS relys heavily on those who wish to read DML reviews there.
Terry had not answer any of this accusations...
hmmmm....
davidlim - October 31, 2009 05:37 PM (GMT)
 had a great time watching the clip he did on TA. from the way things look...TA needs to answer the accusations.
and if it's true, i understand why the Flame starter did what he did. put yourself in his shoes, do 5 years of research and it's burned down by few buggers with ulterior motives. it's not constructive criticism being given but personal vendetta to ruin a product. and from what i see in the forum screenshots and such...these guys WERE ganging up.
Silantra - November 1, 2009 12:13 PM (GMT)
i've been watching the plot since it first aired in ML, TL and PMMS and then it arise again in Armorama....
nothing bothers me much if TA stop reviewing the products coz i dont care....and someone else will do it... the plot got thicken and deeper... from a DVD project to a larger personal insults ...
so i hope this incident will not degrade or neither will it make DML stop producing good (or bad kits)...
ntw, those clips are awesome...i have seen the same clip but with different subtitle elsewhere (i think when they banned some porn site- Hitler is mad when they banned the site)...same clip diff subtitle (minus the flak 88)... really hilarious ..haha

Did more Googling, and found the blog. I found it fairly derogatory, even when legitimate points are made, and makes for unpleasant reading. I'm glad and very grateful that this forum is so much more friendly and civil.
Hiroshi for DMLNB: Hiroshi code
Fosters Sensei = TA
2-star = Tamiya
3-star = Tristar
Pony = Bronco
Model Boss = Hobby Boss
Pocket Model = Tasca

What an incident for International Modelling Political Scene. Right now there is two camps supporting Foster Sensei and the other supporting Lizard or T.Rex (new code for Dragon). Ha ha ha ha....... Malaysia don't have this ah?
Alpha7 - November 2, 2009 04:19 AM (GMT)
BTW, there's an
addendum page added by Terry, which I missed earlier. The point is I didn't find anything too damning in the review on PMMS. It points out a few shortcomings, such as the lack of print and search functions that will hamper the usefulness of the DVD, errors in captions on photos and some images taken from Wings & Wheels Publications without permission. Doesn't sound like a product assassination" to me.
P/S: PMMS is just one of the many review sites around. It's always best to get info from several sites to get a more balanced opinion. This hobby is to be enjoyed :D

Alpha > actaully it was more than that liao ... the latest DML kit "reviewed" by TA was really very "unrecommended" on the 1st round which he subsequently "revised" ...
Anyway I suppose there will be likes and "dislikes" over some products (no discrimination against any manufacturer) ... personal preference always take 1st class seat especially in this "HOBBY" industry ...
remember this model making is suppose to be ENJOYED and not "bashing" lol ... so ... I would personally hope this issue gets resolves ASAP ... poor modellers would definitely like unbias and fair opinion for products releases especially at the rate manufacturers are releasing their products nowadays...

The clip is from the german movie,
Der Untergang (The Downfall). It's been used as a parody for quite a number of incidents. The most popular is the one about
Cristiano Ronaldo leaving Man Utd (*NOTE: The clip includes a lot of foul words)

Things just took a turn for the worse. It looks like TA is
throwing in the towel. I really hope he reconsiders.
moJimbo - November 3, 2009 03:12 PM (GMT)
i hope so too.... PMMS is one of my fav websites for reviews :(
Silantra - November 3, 2009 04:16 PM (GMT)
the site is still alive as i wrote this... TA wrote the blog today at 9.38AM... so i guess he is still considering..

Brian Balkwill is a member of The Research Squad and...
One of the creators of The Panther Project DVD. He also has access to The Wheatcroft Collection and is based in the UK. The latest projects are books (Panther Project volume one and The Tiger Project) which would get very good reviews based on the format they now follow.
His problem with Terry is that he believes Terry lent the DVD to Jon Bailey who allegedly hates Brian's business partner. Brian states he emailed Terry who stated he was working on the review while Jon had the DVD in his possession and was planning a product assassination. According to Brian, Jon wrote the review and Terry published it as his own. The published review is full of issues on the DVD and points out major and minor mistakes all of which could have been avoided by looking at the best references available then. As an expensive reference work, there was a lot to correct.
I have not heard of any corrections or new editions of the DVD so the issues noted in the PMMS review still stand.
Yet, Brian attacks Terry not because of the review but because he believes Terry lent the DVD to someone who had an agenda to assassinate the sole product of the new company based on his hatred of Brian's business partner. He threatened Terry about publishing the review and Terry did publish it anyway.
Saúl García
That's the best summary by Saul Gracia on this matter.

All I can add is that regardless of what everyone says, PMMS is bookmarked in my computer..
nuff said.

for those who just view the video of TA's downfall, now TA responded to the video in the form of his usual review format...

It's like a face-off between the who's who of the modelling world. On Terry Ashley's side we have Jim Rae (admin of Armorama), Paul Owen (admin of Track-Link) and Don Campbell (deputy editor of AFV Modeller). The other side of the fence we have Vinnie Branigan (editor Military Modelling).
