"Forward, Brothers..... Let us cleanse this planet with the fury of the Emperor!"
hahahaha.
Poohbear, very nicely done. I like it very much.

aaaah... always love Sci-Fi... a troop of marines at the back would make this perfect... since this is a nicely painted commander... love it...!

I liked the way you painted the cape. How did you create that multiple tone from white to black?
PoohBear - September 28, 2009 03:11 AM (GMT)
Thanks guys.
@ koo - yes, hopefully our heroic commander will have a number of brothers to accompany him in his battles ^_^
@ flylice80 - The cape was first painted with Citadel Chaos Black as base. For highlights, I mixed sunny skintone with chaos black. Each progressive highlight was 'blocked' in and then blended with its adjacent shade and then a final glaze of pure sunny skintone was added to the high spots.
HTH

Looks like the Bear is practising his eye strain kungfu again.
Must see it in real life to check out the paint contrast and his lovely blue eyes...

Seeing triple or quadrupleimages thereafter is an unfortunate side effect of the 'kungfu' training. hehehe
Roger roger on the real life viewing ;)

This is such a cool subject. And so well executed too.The painting really brings out the flowing cape and leather skirt. Are the eagles on the shoulders painted with Tin Blitz or is that a wash on silver?
PoohBear - September 29, 2009 12:18 AM (GMT)
Hi EH,
I didn't apply any washes to the gold eagle & trims. They were basically base coated wtih Chaos Black, followed by an overall coat of Shining Gold + Scorched Earth. Then darken this mix further with some Chaos Black to be used for outlining the recesses and deepest shadows. 1st highlight was with pure Shining Gold, followed by 2nd highlight of Burnished Gold and the 3rd and final highlight of Mithril Silver+Burnished Gold. Blend in the mid tones where required and a touch of pure Mithril Silver for the extreme highs and that's it.
thanks & cheers

You have outdone yourself Herr Pooh. Excellent work on the blues. I see what you mean about the mutiple details each requiring their little own highs and shadows. I think you may finally found your calling in modelling kingdom. Definitely a "minis" man in the making. I'm sure they've been partly muted out by the lighting in the photos but if I were to add anything it would be pushing the shadows on the weapons with almost chaos black mix with a wee bit of boltgun metal. Its just me though or more specifically it could just be my old eyes.
Btw as for the greenie butts which I take from your "hint" to be referring to a set of mean-looking mutual acquaintances of ours, Herr Marine Kommander here may have to wait a while and be content to kick some Ashigaru butt instead. :)

If time permits, I should drop your place to see this marine commander closely plus the hulks of course. BTW, are you interested with OTHER commanders? Hint! Hint!
flylice80 - September 30, 2009 05:52 AM (GMT)
green aliens? you mean goblins and orcs? Now what does hint hint means.... I wonder. ;)
PoohBear - September 30, 2009 07:18 AM (GMT)
Haha, by 'calling', you don't mean the 1-800-mini hotline do you? ^_^
Noted on the wait for the greenies. Needless to say, they are eagerly awaited. And yes, this extends to Mr. Ashigaru as well.
@ Kenny, you are most welcome to drop by and inspect the Hulk (not the green meanie ^_^) and yes, bring on the Commanders and Librarians and Devastator Squads, et all. :D
@ flylice80 - well, for one thing, apart from being green, they are lean & mean. Looks like we'll have to wait for a bit before they make an appearance. ^_^
