Not sure of the Mig and Bug though and the scale of turn out might be. I'll be there anyway. It is also expected to be raining in the afternoon, just like what happened during Patroullie De France last time.

Hope the weather be fine.

Lockheed Martin F-16C/D Fighting Falcon (Block 52) (2009 – Present)
In the 2009 show season the Thunderbirds transitioned to an updated version of the F-16 fighter. The Block 52s have an upgraded Avionics package that brings the Thunderbird fleet into alignment with the rest of the worldwide F-16 fleet. Additionally, the more powerful Pratt & Whitney F100-PW-229 engine adds an additional 3,600 lbs of thrust. This in turn increases the maximum allowable gross weight for ground handling, taxi, takeoff and in-flight maneuvers by nearly 5000 lbs.

they are using block 52 planes for real?

landyshah - September 28, 2009 02:32 PM (GMT)
LOL GPS pulak...yes ill key in...thanks!

enghui - September 28, 2009 11:17 PM (GMT)
I ll be there for sure, but might be a bit late due to work.5mins drive from my house.
Loo ,Ulu Yam is where Silver stays I think.

MiG21 - September 29, 2009 12:33 AM (GMT)
Those were the days catching after the Thunderbirds Airshows in Australia and NZ.
If you are looking for patches, look out for the USAF crew.
They might carry some with them to sell for beer.
Hopefully USAF/TUDM has a special kiosk selling Thunderbirds poster, T-shirt & etc.
Good quality patches are hard to come back.
So sampul when you come across them.
Handy if you have USD with you too.
Good hunting, mate.

The Thunderbird patch on my hand is the original worn by of the pilot.
100% silk made and "stained" by the 9-G sweat.
Very nice to feel it too.

aztechx,

Yes, they are now flying the F-16C Block 52.

They quite recently transitioned to this model from the previous Block 32.

The Tamiya 1/48 kit gives you parts & decals for both Block 32 & 52 versions.

This is their 3rd visit to this country.

The first time was in Oct 1987 (F-16A Block 15), followed by the second time in 1994 with the F-16C Block 32 (can't remember the month).

If this year's show is anything like te first two, then we may get a chance to see the aircraft up close, only after the show.

After the flight display is over, the aircraft will taxi to the ramp, and the crew will deplane in formal-like manner. Then they will walk to the crowd line to greet the spectators.

The ground crew will most probably be passing out a Thunderbirds brochure with a fold out poster and photos of the team members. You can try and get some autographs of the team members.

I've no idea if things will still be done the same way, or will it be different in this present day & climate.

I expect security to be tight - e.g., cordon thrown up around the USAF aircraft, etc., just as they do in LIMA and even in SG.

Jason,

The "3rd" visit was supposed to be in 2001 at LIMA.
After 911, they pull out together with the Red Arrow.

I remember that very well it was my 1st ventured into LIMA.
I think our good friend Mahmood too was badly hit after investing heavily on the TB merchandises.

Also lately, in the local papers the US has been calling to improve tie with Malaysia.
These TBs are like US ambassadors in the sky.

Let hope the weather is fine with blue sky.

Yes, that's right.

Since it is already history, I've discounted it altogether.

Well you can't count those planned shows with "absentees" ... so F4d you are correct that its ONLY the 3rd time in Malaysia and the 1ST in the Kelang Valley. B)

I do HOPE The ThunderBird pilots will maintain their tradition and HAVE an autograph session with the crowd.  please please ....

Brutus - September 29, 2009 02:24 AM (GMT)
Sorry folks....Don't expect too much with typhoon Ketsana still lurking over the South China Sea, will be slightly overcast over the skies of Malaysia and visiblity isn't getting any better for the last few days at Subang airfield. It was about 9km on Sunday, yesterdays has reduced to 7km and today has further reduced to 5km. Needs a little lower winds somehow.... ;)

Security can be very tight here consider that an attack on a TB is like attacking the US.
So wonder we can go near the TB like in US.

As per requested by the US embassy, for sure the pilots will mingle with the crowd to please our pretty Malaysian ladies and macik-macik with payung.
