Title: My 2nd Car Modeling
Description: Looking for F1 car in 1/20
flylice80 - September 17, 2009 06:19 AM (GMT)
Hi,
I usually model amour, so I'm not familiar with the car modeling industry. In fact, I don't like cars so I only have limited knowledge about them.
I'm looking for F1 cars in 1/20 scale. Preferably the Ferrari, latest model better. A quick search in the net, I found that Tamiya's kit is the 2001 version and Fujimi has 2006 version. I don't usually see the car model departments in hobby shops. Any shop selling them at good price?
Anyone can give some advise? Anyone has any kit to let go?
Thanks

Fly... for your info ... if you get latest tamiya or fujimi kits ... well be prepared to spend ... especially for Fujimi's latest generation of F1s (RRP = 4,500 yen ea)
and Tamiy'a (RRP = 3000 yen)
If you plan to start suggest you get Ta-tamiya's earlier kits which are just as good for practise and then get a good car for supa-detail lol ... hth.

I'm not up for practicing. I'm planning on building one for a good friend's upcoming birthday (one of my company's client also). So.... looking for one good and nice kit.

tamiya is coming up with the 2009 F1 ferrari, the F60, if you are looking for the lastest F1 car, this is it, 4,500yen but only release on december
http://www.hlj.com/product/TAM20059if you never built any of these cars before, i suggest you go for the tamiya 2001 ferrari, IMO it should be easier to built than the fujimi's F1, pricewise also cheaper
if you couldnt find it at LHS, try hwjapan, 20% discount, although backordered, you can try order it, usually wouldnt take more than 2 weeks if they got stock

mmm..... time is not an issue. I'm planning to complete it next year May. I'll probably wait and see the 2009 version. By the way, is there major different between the 2001 and 2009 version? which do you think looks better?
I'm interested to get the Fujimi GP Brazil version. Looks cool. Just the price tag of RM 150+ put me scratching my head.

To answer your question ... are you F1 kipas?
Fujimi's 248 version is M.Schummarker & Barrachello's last competitive ride on the F1 circuit. This car will be on a lot of modellers "want" list ... I know I would like one but am currently flat broke...
Ta-tamiya's version is the brand new 2009 version. There is no winner on looks cos each version has many changes incorporated over the years.
But if you noticed, Ta-tamiya's new F1 is priced the same as Fujimi's... so no cheaper F1 out there liao...

Well.....no... I don't follow the F1. All I'd look for is major crashed. :P
Anyway, thanks for your offer. I think it'll be more impressive if I can build 2. I'm going to print the decals myself anyways, so the cosmetics of the kit is not an issue. Just wondering in terms of the look, is there any difference between Ferrari and McLaren? Is it possible to get some PE parts and paint the Mclaren red and say it's a Ferrari car?

No ... both teams have pretty different cars although they participate in the same race with the same rules.
The visible difference for both team cars would be the body, nose wings, that tail thingy and the wheels... of course in 20th scale you can't tell if its "Bridgestone" or "michellin" except for the prints ...
Also each individual driver has some form of unique car details esp Mai-kai sui-mak-kai :P
Enjoy...
